    I think that this was their first paid gig. You know, before the comic itself was the money maker that it later became.

    Everyone has to start someplace. Everyone needs to put food on the table and pay rent.

    I believe it's from the period of the Great Hard Drive Crash, where they only got the comics back from asking fans for their saved/cached copies. Unless that's something I totally made up for my own PA headcanon.

    In this case, I think that it's just an error that it thinks there's a comic for 9/5/2000. That's a Tuesday. They have one for 9/4 and 9/6. However, 9/1 does seem well and truly lost. And 8/28 is a pretty terrible resolution copy.

    It is a little weird that it has the (c) 2000 etc. copyright text. They didn't put that on the comics around that time. Not even if you go forward a bunch to the bumper stickers (which they posted in between MWF strips).

    Hopefully future archaeologists will solve these mysteries.
