At least they got rid of Kess, Nelix was awful, but Kess was like Wesley combined with alexander dipped in Ezri Dax.
Mmm. Dipped in Ezri Dax.
I may have a crush on Nicole De Boer. She was fantastic in "The Dead Zone".

@Thomamelas so Justified isn't on Netflix anymore. I...that was a weird development. I am going to try and obtain it from a friend.
When I searched for it, Netflix recommended me Longmire. Have you seen/heard of it? It seems like a promising entry in that vein, with a tough but fair sheriff in Wyoming, and wikipedia says it's gotten generally favorable reviews, and I guess Lou Diamond Phillips is in it, which is always a plus.
In the meantime, I needed something to watch while I ate lunch today, so I fired up Bosch on Amazon Prime. Hard-boiled LA detective solves murders while sad trumpet-mute solo plays. Obviously this is jacob bait.

Wasn't a fan of Longmire. Like I enjoyed the first season, but the second season went way up its own ass. Apparently others liked it?
Loved Bosch, only two season so far, but there are like 18 Connelly books and the show takes plots directly from the books.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
I like the actor behind Neelix, but the character itself was poor. Not Paris poor, but poor.
At least we agree Paris was worse
Tom Paris is like the worst aspects of Riker combined with Wesley. Originally he was supposed to be the leader of Wesley's douche squadron who got bounced from the academy, but I guess they were worried ladies wouldn't love him if he was.

Officially, they never gave a reason why Tom Paris wasn't just that character even though it obviously was.
Unofficially, it was probably so they wouldn't have to give the author of that TNG episode royalties for the entire run of Voyager.
every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.

They actually didn't want to pay the writers of "The First Duty," that Wesley episode, a few bucks in residuals per episode for creation of the character.

Nope.
They changed his name so they wouldn't have to pay royalties to the dude who tng episode script.
no the autonomy of one fucking weirdo transporter accident is not greater than the autonomy of the two original individuals. This isn't even like, a debate.
Spock settled this in Wrath of Khan.
But maybe the good of Neelix not existing outweighs the autonomy of the two original individuals.
A very strong argument.

I feel like this is a Berenstein Bears thing because we recently watched Voyager and he is absolutely that character. They go into it. He has a moment of reconciliation with his dad when they reestablish communication with star fleet.

They also make up a different reason for his douchebaggery while in Star Fleet, though.

Pilot error?
If it's different they did a daaaaamn good job of making it just different enough (TM)
Jacobkosh I enjoyed Longmire, it's not as good as Justified but it's trying hard. Even Katie Sackhoff is not terrible, even if some of her personal stuff is a bit tiresome.
There's a little bit too much folksy ruralism for my taste but I mostly let that slide.

Voyager was terrible so my solution was to not watch it and not talk about it
that seems preferable to watching and dwelling on it idk
Did you watch it past season 3 or so?
It got better. It never got great, but it got decent.
Not in an organized fashion, no, but I have sometimes watched random episodes from later in the show's run. It sometimes seems to aspire to the heights of a middlingly bland TNG episode, but while TNG could get away with bland scripts sometimes because they had a cast with chemistry and the scripts would still have one or two killer scenes even in a terrible episode, Voyager's people were just kind of suits that made word noises to me.
My thing about Voyager was B'Elanna Torres. Mind you, the actress that plays her is attractive. However, she has asymmetrical eyes. One of her eyes is lower than the other. Once you see it, you can't unsee it. This bothered me for the entire run.
We all agree Miles was the best DS9 character correct?
did you grow up in the dimension where they didn't have Garak and Quark and Odo and half the cast?
The cast overall on DS9 was stellar. I'd say fully 5 or 6 of my top ten Star Trek characters of all time come from that show. Hell, I think maybe 3 or 4 of my top ten characters from any TV show come from DS9.

Katee Sackhoff is in Longmire too. It's not amazing but it's got some likeable characters.
I'm not sure justified was ever on Netflix, but it should still be on Amazon prime

Medic, Pilot, Trained commando, Ecoterrorist, Starship designer, Engineer, Historian, Farmer, stupid character
Garak wasn't a main character. But Miles totally was man. He did a lifetime of prison for DS9!

Shoulda been played by Neil Breen.
the best character on DS9 was Leeta's cleavage
Garak was pretty cool too
