[Elite: Dangerous] Get a ship, get a crew and keep flying. Now with ALIENS.
He has a bunch of those on his channel. Looks like that particular weapon is pretty popular. I hardly ever do power play, but I could see getting some of those for my small ships.
I like to take out my eagles to get in tussles from time to time. There's nothing like knowing a few well placed shots will send you to the rebuy screen to make sure you're paying attention.
I got my VKB pedals in and holy hell these things are soooooooooo much nicer than the plastic pieces of crap I used to use. I tried the Saitek pedals and CH's pedals but I never really liked how they felt and that style of rudder pedal is a motherfucker for me because I have long legs and am desk bound so they were always an uncomfortable pain in the ass. Ultimately I would end up often barely using them. The VKB rudder pedals, however, are solid damn metal, don't slide around, and the vertical actuation is absolutely effortless to use. I don't even have to think about it. Also the action on them is just so buttery smooth and precise. The center detent on them is noticeable but not more like a satisfying "yup there it is" rather than something you have to fight through. The lack of toe brakes will kinda suck for when I dabble in DCS/IL-2 but eh nbd really. VKB has provided dedicated emulation software for that and toe brakes are only needed for take off anyway so who gives a shit? Also, for space sim fans no toe brakes doesn't matter at all since they aren't used in spacecraft anyway.
What I like visually about them is that they're just super low profile and unobtrusive. When I'm not space/flight simming they don't get in the way at all and I've already got a habit of just resting my feet on them regardless since I can just put my toes under the pedals comfortably as if the pedals weren't even there.
If this is a preview of the sort of quality I can expect out of the Gunfighter I have coming my hype just shot through the fucking roof for that thing. If you're looking for some very well built, precise pedals then these are a damn good pick. I'd even go so far as to say they're the best pedals on the market for anyone who is stuck at a desk with limited space to work with. One of these days I want to get an Obutto and go proper sim crazy and when I do I'll pick up some Slaws but until that dream day happens I definitely expect to get a ton of mileage out of these.
Now I get to stare at it for two months until the MCG is released.

I had my first close close call in combat yesterday.
@BeornK and @Premier kakos were hunting and tangled with a conda. We may have not been on same target and the conda had free reign on me where as we were using federal police to tank for us. I'm getting wrecked fast, just getting pummelled. Canopy pops. 25 mins of life support, all pips to engines boost away. @BeornK and @Premier kakos valiantly attack the conda which makes it attack them- I have 3% hull. 24 mins of air. Modules are shot. Reboot.... in a combat zone..... while the others are getting pounded. power is back.... the others escaped damaged but less so than me. I super cruise and follow them.... flying via left panel instrumentation only. I have no center hud. pure instruments. Make the landing and repair.... what a rush.
I was only out there in my cobra to test her limits. 3% hull and most of the mods shot to shit.... I'd say i found her limit....

Yeah, losing your canopy is always fun.
Especially if you lose your sensors as well, and spend a precious two minutes of air trying to figure out why you can't target the station to initiate a docking request.
This is for Alf. A friend signed up (with a shitty, beginner level jump range) and is getting frustrated by the amount of travelling he has to do since there's generally only one expansion system.
Now I get to stare at it for two months until the MCG is released.
I said fuck it and got the Gunfighter with a stick because I'm an impatient jackass. Besides, Elite doesn't use a lot of buttons and half my Thrustmaster FCS throttle isn't even used so nbd really.

How do you dock if you can't send a docking request?

Most powers don't expand anymore, since all remaining systems are profit-losing systems (for everybody). He would have to undermine another (non-Imperial?) powers control systems - aka go there, interdict PP ships that control that system and blow them up (or blow them up at nav beacons, etc). Or go to another power's expansion attempt, and oppose them in the expansion zones.
Then take those merits (without getting blown up) back to a AD control system and hand them in under Contacts -> Power Contacts).
Or they could join a real power like the mighty pirate lord Archon Delaine.
Now I get to stare at it for two months until the MCG is released.
I said fuck it and got the Gunfighter with a stick because I'm an impatient jackass. Besides, Elite doesn't use a lot of buttons and half my Thrustmaster FCS throttle isn't even used so nbd really.
That said, a lot of the buttons you can map in Elite aren't really immediate need items so I never felt a pressing urge to use every button ever on a HOTAS. You can comfortably map the important stuff and still have room to play with which is basically what I did with the FCS. On the flipside when I had my full CH setup I totally went batshit crazy mapping things to the point that even my throttle quadrant got used to control landing gear, friendship drive (kinda unwieldy but damnit I got it to work like the Millenium Falcon hyperdrive controls!), cargo scoop, and one or two other silly things like that but that setup lent itself much better to that kinda thing and I did it for pure immersion reasons.
Oh.....right....I forgot I have a Track IR so I don't use most of the menu/focusing controls since my ship UI is all activated by me looking around and I don't need look controls either >_>
Well now, don't I look like the simmer version of a privileged jackass now? Haha.
For all of you on the Gunfighter train but not on the VKB mailing list:
Hi guys,
Up to this point, I've only received about 1/3rd of all tracking numbers I was supposed to be getting, which means that the DHL agent who acts between VKB HQ and DHL didn't get them all done in time.
The tracking numbers that I did get I've already processed, and those of you on that list should have received notification emails.
The remaining 2/3rd of tracking numbers haven't made it into my inbox yet, and I will of course be waiting for them to show. However, I don't know if that will happen before Monday (Shenzhen time, UTC+8).
From what I understand, this doesn't delay any of your shipments as they're already on the way; it'll only delay you seeing your tracking numbers in an email - and you tracking your deliveries on DHL's website.
My apologies, as I am sure that's not what you wanted to read as weekend news, but this is something that's in the hands of a third party entity, who everyone is now waiting on to finish this one job...
TL;DR DHL is being DHL but we should be getting our sticks soon!

Does anyone have a link to alien locations I can pick up artifacts and get interdicted...I've seen the videos but i like to experience it myself?
Also hopefully can get some me time to jump on elite.
You don't actually need to be carrying anything special. You just need to be tooling in and around the Pleiades, specifically in and around the Maia system. Next door is the Merope system and there are a lot of barnacles on a number of those moons. If you wanna check em out.
Also the Maia system now has Distress Signal USSs that have alien ships too.

I still haven't really figured out NPC pirating. I tried a couple missions to rescue hostages last night, and failed them both. My pirating vessel is a Python with gimballed cannons (a couple with the explode internals mod) and a large gimballed beam laser. I've got collector and hatchbreaker limpets and a manifest scanner.
I disable the target by taking out their power plant (they have plenty of hull left), and then launch collectors and hatch breakers. Is more than one hatch breaker controller a waste? I don't know. Anyway, I switch to my smallest cannons to tap their power plants when they reboot them, but it's a gamble. They go kablooey after a couple taps. Maybe I should just use the beam laser for that? Is there a better weapon choice here?
I mean, I guess I could get seekers and try to take out their drives after they're disabled, but I fear most trading vessels will not survive that in hull damage. Also, if you do a manifest scan on them, does that make the hatch breakers drop their most precious cargo, or it's all random? It's a rough time trying to get 8 hostages out of a T7 that can hold so much other junk.
I really *want* to do these missions, but damn they are difficult for me. I feel like I'm doing something very wrong, but I'm not sure what.

Your weapon mod that destroys internals is probably not helping. As I recall if the cargo hatch is full on destroyed they can't drop cargo. Beam lasers are your better choice for this work. Also when taking out the power plant there is always a small chance the ship will explode.
One hatch breaker limpet will get a good chunk of cargo to drop. After that fire a second to get more, IIRC you need to wait for their cargo hatch to be closed again or else it won't work (even though it might say it was sucesssful). I think usually 2-3 should be enough to get all the cargo out.
Axen on

Finally started to play the real game. Did a data transfer mission. Then went to do a salvage for some Rebels.
First the mission itself is kinda weird. Like I go scan something then it tells me to go to a planet so I do. But then nothing happened for 10 min.
So I went to go to a station and on the way a mission popped saying the salvage was located. Not the best mechanic...
Then I picked up a bunch of crap before getting what I needed. So I had to drop my Cargo. In the process I accidental put my landing gear down. I then spent 5 minutes bumping the salvage gently as it refused to get picked up. It eventually blows up and I go to warp and realize my landing gear is down.
I'm guessing the landing gear blocked my cargo scoop.
Then I go to a station to land and got a ton of fines cause I didn't realize you needed to go to a specific pad.
All in all this game is amazing as hell as a VR experience. Not sure I'd be enjoying it if not for VR. But I learned a lot in my first hour or so...

Your cargo scoop is below your ship so you don't fly into the cargo, you fly above it so the scoop below you can do it's thing. There should be a little display showing you if you're aligned properly with the cargo
Yeah I did all that right. The blue screen was centered and I had no problem picking stuff up before or after the landing gear was down.
Just while the landing gear was down stuff would just bounce off the middle of the blue camera.
I'm guessing my landing gear was blocking it?
Yeah, pretty likely. Depends on the ship, I guess?
Picking up cargo can be pretty finicky doing it manually. You can't go too fast, and some ships it's better to descend on the cargo at an angle than fly into it straight (Python, especially, in my experience). Collection limpets are handy, but of course have some of their own issues.
Head tracking alone makes me happiest, I can only imagine what heights I'd hit with your gear.
Enjoy! Murder dudes! Meet aliens.
You can go meet aliens /right now/, in fact.
I gave up on scooping ages ago. I just use limpets if I ever want anything. This doesn't quite pan out if I'm in a dedicated combat ship, but at least in multipurpose ships, I don't need to suffer anymore.
I spent the whole evening doing same room multicrew with a friend and it is just ballin. The money is slower but still worthwhile (and he took no risk, after all) and all of the combat roles are really smooth. There were a couple of dcs and out of sync errors but that's about it. It's something I hope they build out more, multicrew need to be able to take on more functions (like repair through AFMs) and if the way to restrict utilities has been patched in I certainly couldn't find it.
I thought of a new AI crew role: a mechanic who repairs modules (and can potentially repair the power plant) without an AFM, but as with the pilot he takes a cut of all profits. There could even be the potential for out of combat hull repair, perhaps with drones. Maybe there's some room for scanner helpers too? I don't know. It seems like the fact that they take a cut could make them pretty easy to balance because having a full crew of four or five people could add up fast.
Oh, and I ditched my fighter who was about to ding Dangerous. She was costing a lot of money. I switched her out for a harmless pilot who looks less like she teached hockey in a girl's boarding school. I think I'll build that rank up fast. The old pilot took a cool 4.5 million though, she won't go hungry for a while.
My friend who I bought this for is balls deep into it now. I knew he liked it for combat, but now that he likes passenger missions he is truly lost. Once you buy your first space dildo it's all over for you.

Depends on your power.
Archon gets combat merits for expansion and undermining, but not fortification.

It could very well have been my hard points not my landing gear. But one of those two definitely were the culprit.
Just sucked I found out after nudging the salvage enough to blow it up.
Still all these things are so immersive and amazing in VR I'm loving it so much.
