My friends in Seoul have a gigantic apartment, especially by Korean standards. Their kitchen has a normal refrigerator, a kimchi refrigerator, and a range with a tiny oven.
Meanwhile, one of the few things my current landlord has ever promptly fixed was the oven. When I was looking at it before I moved in, I noticed the oven door didn't seal shut. The landlord just bought a new oven to replace it. I suspect this is because, compared to the other stuff, you can really get in trouble for not having a working oven I guess?

Not having an oven would be fucking terrible, who would do that?
Nearly all of Japan.
Not having an oven for 2 years sucked.

Yes, because I am a taste criminal
I honestly don't ever really cook with the oven myself
I have a toaster oven I use for some things, but I'm almost entirely a stovetop cooker
My roommate uses the oven a bunch, but there's very little I make in it (and those things are generally like, frozen foods that have been pre-made like french fries and pizzas)
My stepdad and stepbrothers apparently used their oven for years exclusively as a place to stash empty pizza boxes, so they wouldn't all just transform into Bug Playgrounds on the floor by the trash can. They would do this until there were so many of them crammed in there that somebody had to stop being a lazy ass and haul them out to the curb for trash pickup. It was logical, in a very stupid single-dad-with-four-teenage-sons-at-home kind of way.
The first time after they got married that my mom tried to preheat the oven, you know, to actually cook some food, she started the kitchen on fire.

Or is going out for food the main thing?

Baked food like we think of it isn't really a Thing for Korean cuisine for the most part.

From what I can tell, it's an Asian thing? Being completely generalised and stereotypical.

My parents are Indian, so the oven AND the stove get used a lot.
Rice Cooker (although you can cook rice with pretty much anything)
Stove
Air fryer
Induction cooker
99% of what my family eat can be made without an oven
Generally ovens are for people with a passion for baking cakes and pastries

I can get you a good recipe that involves rice, chicken, cream of mushroom soup, and Ritz crackers that you bake in an oven.
What's an induction cooker? is it like a stove top?
Only if you really want to make a cake or make a point

No oven unfortunately, appreciate the offer though
Yeap but portable, good for instant noodles and the occasional steamboat
Results will vary depending on your cooker, might as well give it a shot to see how well it goes

saves a lot of effort and only uses one dish
because they're the healthy choice.
It's just good enough that I'd feel bad throwing it out and just bad enough that I really don't feel like eating it at all.
Hell tonight's dinner is going to be all oven based.
Southern fried chicken mini fillets
roasted veg
sweet potato wedges
Sweet potato fries are fine...but they are a very different food from regular fries, and really shouldnt be compared.
from what I hear it's super common across the pond in Europe to have a tiny range and maybe a microwave, and a dorm fridge
they do not do eating like Americans do eating I guess?
Japan in particular the kitchen is basically a fucking closet
Fry and chop up some bacon and add it to the cheesymac.

While living in japan I figured out a way to cook a cake in a toaster oven.
Sprinkle some brown sugar on them.
Or heck, go the other way and toss them with rosemary, garlic, and olive oil.
The best.
Added to wishlist.
whoa. that induction hob.
it's good enough for steamboat? We're thinking about getting a tabletop burner with the propane canisters like they have at the restaurants.
but if we could get a portable induction hob like that which works well enough....
