Ugh. Some frustrating stuff at the new job.

For one, the transition from contract to permanent is being delayed due to my background check taking longer for some reason. So that's annoying.

More frustrating is my coworkers. Its a very small team, just two other people that do work on the same stuff, and anytime I go to them with a question they seem annoyed. Our work also involves docs being notarized, and one of them is the only one that can do it, and same thing anytime I take her anything to notarize.

    Really frustrating.

So this morning I got a super emergency email from someone about needing AV stuff set up (my new job has me being the AV point of contact and I do helpdesk stuff when AV is slow). Must be in place for 9 AM meeting! Message was sent to us at 9:15.

I get there, everyone looks pissed at me for some reason. The room is way smaller than the minimum size we recommend for a projector due to throw distance to get a decently sized image. I set it up anyway. With where the presenter is sitting, I need to run cables between people. People who don't move out of the way so I can run the cables even when asked to please scoot back like a foot for a few seconds.

So what could have been done in... 3 minutes? Took like 15.

Fuck those people. Right in the nose.

Reposting this here since I just happened to make a job thread about a minute after this one was born. Hah

I have not slept well this week. I normally get up OK in the morning, and get into work 5 to 10 minutes early. I have been exactly on time for most of this week, except today where I was 5 minutes late.
Since I am the first one in, noone notices. But I know. Maybe next week I'll sleep better.

Our office ran out of jugs of water for the communal water cooler this morning, and being a water-drinker myself I took it upon myself to get to the bottom of it. After half an hour and six conversations, it turns out that Engineering thought HR was buying the water, HR thought Administration was buying it, Administration thought IT was buying it, and IT thought Engineering was buying it. So, by some fluke of accounting which was apparently disrupted recently, a guy had been delivering water to this office every week or so for several years without any effort on our part.

Came to the realization today that, over the past week, I've had more job satisfaction and enjoyment doing part-time writing than I have had the entire past five years doing cinematics work.

Gonna stick it out for now in my current leadership position because I genuinely think I'm currently the best person for this role, but I'm going to be exploring my options within the studio going forward. Would rather have less authority/responsibility but more enjoyment than the level of authority I have now but little interest in the details of my job.

@vsove On the one hand, I think you've done a great job with the cinematic stuff and the way that the cinematics have evolved is one of my favorite things about the development of those games over the years.

On the other hand, I'm also super interested to see your work as a writer if you start doing more of that.

Sooo...more power to you either way!

Library Update: Today is a curriculum day so no students. Spent the morning with the other librarians having various sessions about stuff but it went pretty fast. Had a session on "Maker Spaces" which is a fad in library at the moment. We can spend some of our budget on marker space stuff. I asked if I can spend that on new board games as well, since all we have is like Life and Monopoly. They said I sure could very enthusiastically. So now I am looking through BoardGameGeek for ideas.

Anyone got recommendations. I'd like the play time to be around an hour max since out blocks are 90 minutes and I want students to actually be able to finish during that time. I want to set up a shelf area with the board games and study hall kids can come and check them out and play in the library.

Everything is broken. HVAC isn't talking to SCADA, elevators mysteriously stop and start on their own, and the elevators won't stop leaking hydraulic fluid no matter how politely we ask them not to.

    Business as usual, so far.

Forbidden Desert and Pandemic Dice are both 30/45 minute games and are cooperative. Both are fairly cheap as well.

Monoprice sells multiple varieties of 3D printers that don't seem too expensive and interface with a lot of software. Not sure of the quality but they seem to offer pretty decent tech.

I got a call from my boss yesterday who is working part-time from home for a few more weeks as her maternity leave is winding down.

I have, of course, not yet announced that I'm planning on leaving this position because I don't know how much longer the process for my still-conditional offer will take.

"Hey Sassori! The Director and I have agreed that you should come with us to the next _________ Conference!"
    "...Oh yeah?"
"Yeah it's at this location and it's so much fun and blah blah blah good opportunity blah blah blah"

I just took some deep breaths until she stopped talking long enough for me to ask when it is. Luckily it isn't until April. And I sure to hell hope I will be out of here before registration opens for the event.

    That could've been awkward.

There was to be free pizza for lunch, but it is an hour and a half late. Now, instead of being energized by a free meal and putting in a very productive afternoon before the weekend, as was apparently the management plan, instead everyone is sitting around the lobby area watching the windows.

Pizza guy was flagged down, pizza arrived, was eaten, was OK.

There's a pretty serious wreck blocking off the major intersection that feeds into the industrial area where I work, and outbound traffic has been pretty much at a standstill since noon. That's why my bosses ordered Pizza apparently, because none of us can get out of here to go get food.

The poor Pizza guy didn't know this though, because inbound traffic isn't being obstructed. He left an hour ago, and we can still see him from the second floor windows. We feel pretty shitty about this whole plan, in retrospect.

    First review of my writing!

Given that I've been working here for years, it went better than expected.

Given that it's literally the first thing I've written here, it needs some fairly significant work.

However, the biggest problem wasn't 'this is garbage and you're garbage,', but 'this is probably too complex for the word budget we have here'.

    I'll call it a victory.

Man what, I love these things! But then my normal coffee drink is an iced coffee with a shot of espresso, no sugar, and a tiny splash of half and half. There's a lot more sugar and fat in the doubleshot things than what I normally drink, so they're like a treat for me.

Still prefer my full cup of iced coffee though. The doubleshot things are like a few sips and you're done.

I'm not sure they're "better for you" necessarily, but I guess that depends on what your normal coffee drink was.
