Coffee Rules Everything Around Me: a thread about your [job]
Posts
Hey, your weekend starts early!
For one, the transition from contract to permanent is being delayed due to my background check taking longer for some reason. So that's annoying.
More frustrating is my coworkers. Its a very small team, just two other people that do work on the same stuff, and anytime I go to them with a question they seem annoyed. Our work also involves docs being notarized, and one of them is the only one that can do it, and same thing anytime I take her anything to notarize.
Really frustrating.
I get there, everyone looks pissed at me for some reason. The room is way smaller than the minimum size we recommend for a projector due to throw distance to get a decently sized image. I set it up anyway. With where the presenter is sitting, I need to run cables between people. People who don't move out of the way so I can run the cables even when asked to please scoot back like a foot for a few seconds.
So what could have been done in... 3 minutes? Took like 15.
Fuck those people. Right in the nose.
Reposting this here since I just happened to make a job thread about a minute after this one was born. Hah
Since I am the first one in, noone notices. But I know. Maybe next week I'll sleep better.
Gonna stick it out for now in my current leadership position because I genuinely think I'm currently the best person for this role, but I'm going to be exploring my options within the studio going forward. Would rather have less authority/responsibility but more enjoyment than the level of authority I have now but little interest in the details of my job.
On the other hand, I'm also super interested to see your work as a writer if you start doing more of that.
Sooo...more power to you either way!
Anyone got recommendations. I'd like the play time to be around an hour max since out blocks are 90 minutes and I want students to actually be able to finish during that time. I want to set up a shelf area with the board games and study hall kids can come and check them out and play in the library.
7 Wonders would probably be good, as you could tie it into ancient cultures.
Business as usual, so far.
Oh god am I doing this right
Forbidden Desert and Pandemic Dice are both 30/45 minute games and are cooperative. Both are fairly cheap as well.
Monoprice sells multiple varieties of 3D printers that don't seem too expensive and interface with a lot of software. Not sure of the quality but they seem to offer pretty decent tech.

I got the offer this morning, and I just officially resigned. I am so excited. It's a little bittersweet, but I really can't wait to start my next job.
I have, of course, not yet announced that I'm planning on leaving this position because I don't know how much longer the process for my still-conditional offer will take.
"Hey Sassori! The Director and I have agreed that you should come with us to the next _________ Conference!"
"...Oh yeah?"
"Yeah it's at this location and it's so much fun and blah blah blah good opportunity blah blah blah"
I just took some deep breaths until she stopped talking long enough for me to ask when it is. Luckily it isn't until April. And I sure to hell hope I will be out of here before registration opens for the event.
That could've been awkward.
Splendor
It's cheap, quick to learn, only takes 30 minutes to play, and you get to play with nice heavy poker chip style pieces.
Listen.. I mean.. it's probably not wise to argue with someone who specializes in the technology you're system is fucking up when your skillset is microsoft office and talking at the water cooler.
It's stupid I had to take an hour out of my day to diagnose their infrastructure and tell them what they're doing wrong after looking at my debug logs.
HL7s are not for the faint of heart.
You need Sherlock Holmes - Consulting Detective in your life. And also your library.

Old man time, crib is a board game.
If you want something from Penny Arcade you could try Push Fight, available on their store. It is a tad on the expensive side since it is the all wood edition but games are very quick, 5 minutes is a long one.
i'm sure they're bad, but i end up drinking less of them in volume than coffee, and also much more slowly (because they taste bad)
so maybe its better in the longrun
we also talk about other random shit and clown upon each other
So are we in some sort of Escape From New York-type situation for the Pizza guy yet?
they can drag out to 15-20 once you get the hang of them, but it's still really fun
This was an episode of The Office.
There's a pretty serious wreck blocking off the major intersection that feeds into the industrial area where I work, and outbound traffic has been pretty much at a standstill since noon. That's why my bosses ordered Pizza apparently, because none of us can get out of here to go get food.
The poor Pizza guy didn't know this though, because inbound traffic isn't being obstructed. He left an hour ago, and we can still see him from the second floor windows. We feel pretty shitty about this whole plan, in retrospect.
We have a production facility in Salt Lake, so some of my team is based there.
Hope you gave him a solid tip...
Given that I've been working here for years, it went better than expected.
Given that it's literally the first thing I've written here, it needs some fairly significant work.
However, the biggest problem wasn't 'this is garbage and you're garbage,', but 'this is probably too complex for the word budget we have here'.
I'll call it a victory.
Man what, I love these things! But then my normal coffee drink is an iced coffee with a shot of espresso, no sugar, and a tiny splash of half and half. There's a lot more sugar and fat in the doubleshot things than what I normally drink, so they're like a treat for me.
Still prefer my full cup of iced coffee though. The doubleshot things are like a few sips and you're done.
I'm not sure they're "better for you" necessarily, but I guess that depends on what your normal coffee drink was.
It's soooo good. But I get real twitchy.
Good grief, I thought they only sold that size for iced tea! RIP vsove
High five on the black iced coffee though, right? So good.
Seriously the best. I can drink it immediately (unlike hot coffee) and one is enough to get me to lunchtime.
