Somebody explain top coating to me. Just get a spray can of clear matte and go to town?
Check first to make sure you aren't combining incompatible types of paint. Acrylic, oil-based, etc. I don't know the chart off the top of my head, so google is your friend there.
And depending on the brand of topcoat and the ambient temperature, you can very easily get uneven coats or "frosting". So look into that too before you go nuts.
I love when they take old-school designs that look boring or kinda crap and give them cool makeovers. My all-time favorite example is from that MS Era: One Year War book (the art's so good I bought it despite not being able to read a word of Japanese), they took the Zakrello and reworked it from this:
to this:
The basic design of the suit is the same, the way it appears in the movie is quite different and quite capable of being made into a model kit(or toy) thats different from the others. This has happened before you know.
