Was out walking with my boys and came across these on the sidewalk, and my 5yo and 1.5yo were suitably impressed with them. I think they're an immature form of something, but I'm not sure what - they look kinda like ladybug nymphs larvae, but they're different than the examples online I can find.
not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me

Yup-looks like a ladybug larva of some variety, but it's different from the ones I usually see (i.e the super common Asian Multicolor).
I don't know if ladybug larvae have enough going on to get them to species, but you can try poking around the ladybug section on bugguide.net and seeing if you find anything matching-it's a great site.

E: Oh you already pinged them nm

Cool. Weird thing is that one is supposed to not be common in North America, and I'm in northern Virginia.
So bugguide gets me to: http://bugguide.net/node/view/1073260 (a picture taken in Luray!), which gets me to here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coccinella_septempunctata
