I'm ready for the next testpunch. Going to give motion controls another go.

Also, 15 days until release. I have my copy preordered from Amazon and can't wait.

I think the US starts on Friday, and rest of the world starts on Saturday. I don't know if that's exclusive for them or just how the time zones work out, though.

I'm probably going to miss this testpunch, as I'm having to use my PC as a mobile hotspot since the Switch refuses to pick up my wifi nine times out of ten, and the PC is being sent off to be repaired.

I don't think another testpunch would do anything else to sell me on this, anyway. At this point it's all down to if they put in a decent single-player mode.

That's just how the timezones work out. Everyone's playing at the same time.

You know, it's amazing how much mileage they get out of that main ARMS melody. Nearly every stage incorporates it in some way, so there's a unified sound, yet they all feel distinct.

I'm seeing reports Twintelle will be playable in the TestPunches this weekend. Or at least, I'm told that's what it says.

I find myself humming and whistling the tune often without thinking about it. I'd say the subconscious tune recall accounts for 5% of why I'm buying the game!

Oh hey, looks the Ramen Bowl is open too.

I did see some people fighting in a 1v3 mode against some sort of boss player? Just fought him, Hedlok, who fits on top of whatever character they're normally playing and gives them a extra two arms on each side of the head, so they have 6 arms total.

Hoops is pretty rad, too, you dunk them whenever you toss them or bounce them into the edge bumpers.

EDIT: Oh jeeze, we just got rocked by a level 5 Hedlok. He does NOT MESS AROUND.

Ah, so that's how Min-min's dragon arm works.
1 - Charging for long enough transforms the arm
2 - The arm basically throws constant charged punches for a while, instead of one-and-done. May be until hit, or something? Unclear.

I can't recall if guard charges it. I know I ended up with it transformed after grabbing someone?

But DAMN throwing a barrage of charged punches is kind of awesome. Had a 2v2 where I just went double dragon fists. And filled the arena with fire. Got off 2(!!!) specials that round, and the second deleted both opponents at once (due to the dragon head sweeping the fire breath)

Yeah you can only transform the dragon arm by holding dash/jump, and it seems to stay permacharged until you take damage. Had it transformed the whole time when in warmup mode waiting longer than usual to get matched up.

Also messing with the different controls, I was wondering how you change it from the thumbs up grip to standard controls on joy-cons. Seems the gyro detects if you are holding them vertically or not and changes accordingly, but when trying to hold the joy-cons in a relaxed position it sometimes gets confused and reverts back to thumbs up motion grip.

Wrecked everyone again using the jump-dash strat. The only game I lost (ok I lost two but the first game I was afk for the first 20 seconds) I lost to someone using the exact same character, loadout, and strategy. He just outplayed me. The jump dash strat also apparently translates really well to the hoops minigame because I went 10 and 0 a few times using it.

Edit: that means, not counting the afk match, I went somewhere around 22 to 25-1.. with the only loss coming from someone using the same character and strategy.. this is after the game paired me up with people who did as well as me in the last test punch. I think it's safe to say that jump-dodge-throw/punch-repeat is a legit strategy at this point, and a damned potent one to boot.

So I did test Spring Man a bit. I don't get the being able to dash during an attack thing you talk about. However I did come across this: https://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/204207-arms/75415564

He doesnt dash during an attack he jumps up straight.. dashes right or left then throws punches and throws at the apex of the dash while the enemies still throwing his punches at where you just dashed from... thats it.. thats all it is. You should rarely ever throw a punch with two feet on the ground. Also when an enemies knocked down I sort of zig-zag right to left to keep him guessing which direction I'm going to jumpdash next. Funny enough the guy who beat me also did this.

I enjoyed all of that. Loved the boss fight. We beat a lvl 3 Headlok but got trounced by a 4 & 5.

Hoops was fun in the sens that it is basically a fight, but no even bad players get to fight for the full time limit.

Skillshot was ok. I would like to say it's a good opportunity to practice aiming, but unfortunately I spent much of my time getting hit/thrown by other players.

I spent much of my time in regular fights playing Mechanica. My approach was hover jumping over punches and throwing big charged attacks in return. It mostly worked, but I had a bit of trouble hitting fast side-dashers.

Did you know if you hit L, R, or A in the party mode waiting area, your icon shakes or winks or whatever and makes noise? Ha.

Borrowed my friend's Switch to try this this weekend and don't regret it at all. It makes me not want to wait until winter to get a Switch. Arms has sold me more than Zelda. Weird.

edit: Up to 64....arms coins? I don't know what those are, but I've been killing it this second go round with the game. Being down 1-2 in a 2v2 and winning is so goooood.

So I got to play the test punch, and I had a ton of fun.

Y'know what was missing though? Fucking voice chat. That game really feels like so,ething I want to be abl to either taunt my opponent in 1 on 1 / wish them a good game, or talk to my teammates in 2 on 2 or 3 on boss.

I can already tell this is going to be a discord on my phone, line up with friends kind of game if I buy it. It felt kind of sterile without real human interaction.

The gameplay was pretty tight online though - they did a good job with the netcode and it is novel as fuck. Best motion control gaming I may have ever played.

Had fun this morning, and finally learned the controller instead of motion controls. Basketball and Volleyball are both really good distractions from fights. Hedlok was fun too, but fighting him can be tough.

I tried out different characters this round. Helix is weird, Mummy isn't fun for me, but the Ninja character was really what clicked.

I played basically only Twintelle and Minmin this mornmorn.

Twintelle is less powerful than I thought, because you can't hold her slow field for very long at all. It's still a strong move, though, and combining the Parasol and any other arm is pretty strong.

Still lovin' Minmin's arm options, and now I know how to charge her dragon without throwing. Megawatt Dragon and Chakram is still a fine combo.

And Minmin's left arm has effectively a permacharge when you dragon up.

    Hmmm...

Left arm dragon, right arm Megawatt, use the latter to block while you set up a charged up dragon?

Yeah, dragon arm dragon is pretty good at keeping the opponent pinned down.

In the 2v2 it's not fair what happens when you just double dragon, because you basically always have flaming beams shooting across the ring.

I don't care if there is a voice chat. I'd prefer other pre-made things like in Mario Kart.

I tried motion controls last night and they just weren't for me. I played with the switch remotes hooked to the screen and it worked great. Last night I was getting trashed and using the controllers today took me to another level.

I also haven't been given the chance to play volleyball yet. Weird.

Ribbongirl is what pushed me over the edge to winning most matches today.

So, this is getting frequent updates like Splatoon, right? Modes, characters, levels? Is there any type of customization besides arms?
