CK2's holy warring period doesn't begin until 1100 for pagans

I'm sitting here in god damn 875 with hordes of savage vikings waiting for me to call endless war and I can't do it just for petty counties and duchies, that's like firing a nuke to solve a groundhog problem

I'm thinking of granting independence to everyone and just max-speeding whilst zoned out until 1100

The title 'Metroid Prime 4' implies a certain amount of continuity but I think I'd love it if the game was a big stylistic break from the previous 3 games. Give me something really bold visually that makes a bunch of fans frothing mad when they first see it, like Celda.

I'm not saying 'make it more cartoony', necessarily, but

okay actually wait I am saying make it more cartoony

    make everything more cartoony

Metroid Prime 3 felt really different stylistically from the first two (even setting aside the new controls), at least to me, so I think there's room for interesting new developments.

I doubt they'll go more cartoony, but they might take it in a new direction like they did with the open world in BotW.

I'm assuming so, which is why the 3DS Metroid they're keeping it very close to Metroid Classic.

An open world Metroid would just kind of expand upon the original format a bit, which was already p much open world.

mmm, it definitely wasn't open world in the same way BotW is. It's pretty classic Metroidvania pathing, although the little I played of MP3 seemed closer to a modern idea of "open world".

TBH I'm not sure Metroid lends itself well to a real open world, but I trust Retro to do something cool with it even if it's not open world. I'm not sure if people remember just how crazy the concept of a first person Metroid game was until Retro fucking nailed it. There was a lot of very valid skepticism. After three really good games (I'm overlooking my personal gripe with the motion controls in MP3), I think they've earned a measure of trust from me in the area of breaking new ground with Metroid.

Its not Retro its a new team head up by Franchise lead Kensuke Tanabe.

Buuuuuuuuuut Platinum did say they were working on something different.

there's been a trend in sci fi as of late to step away from all robots always inevitably coming to the conclusion that they really need to run killallhumans.exe to being GOOD ROBOT BEST FRIEND

    ;_;

I wrote a paper on this recently, and it's something that we talked about in the Ghost in the shell thread too

There's this interesting disconnect between japanese and American sci-fi. Japan had already faced its big culture-destroying events, and was remade largely because of their success in the high tech fields. So culturally there's much more of a willingness to accept technological reshaping of society, because that's already happened in Japan.

Whereas like you look at movies like Blade Runner and other influential western sci-fi, and they were made in a country with much more paranoia towards technological and cultural changes. Inherent in a lot of multi-ethnic melting pot settings of movies like Blade Runner, where all the signs are in English and Japanese, is the idea of a decline of American power, that America's finally been overtaken by former colonial or neo-colonial states. And technology too is part of that dystopian vision, reshaping culture from what it should be, debasing the rugged American male's self-identity and independence.

For example it is 93 out but with the heat index it feels like 98.

The amount of moisture in the air to cause that is sickening.

    High humidity is miserable.

After a summer monsoon in Phx, we'd have the 115 degree heat beating down on us, plus the 100% humidity for several hours. If it was late, it'd just be muggy all fucking night long.

When it's dry, you get all the fun dry winter air stuff like static and nosebleeds.

Where I'm at right now in the midwest is like a paradise, weather-wise.

A cool historical thing CK2 has: the earliest setting it lets you start in is 769, right when Charlemagne is accumulating power, earlyish in the Carolingian dynastic years... but the Merovingians are still alive! And apparently plotting, because right now in 875 a "de Merohingi", Ancel the Usurper, has taken (what remains of) France / West Francia

I clicked his little dynastic shield and this guy has kingsblood going all the way back to 450!

Occasional mid-day monsoons will saturate the fuck out of the air and turn it in to hell on earth if they finish up too early.

What's worse is that PHX homes only have swamp coolers, so your A/C goes to shit until the air moisture dries up.

On the other hand, I'm not sure spreading bad science around to the more influential households in our country is super great either.
