Like all other threads, this is not a general media thread. This is a thread to talk about the White House machinations that lead to Preibus' outing, and its meaning for the White House, Republicans, etc.

I just assume Clarke is going to DHS Secretary because Trump wants to break some people as revenge for not getting his awesome healthcare bill that would fix everything so beautifully.

Either Paul Ryan was lying, didn't have a clue, or didn't care.

Apparently Priebus was kicked off Air Force One as well, but I haven't seen a reliable source yet.

Edit - I'm assuming AF1 was grounded by the way, that wording, oops.

First part doesn't surprise me. Moving Kelly in is weird. I wonder if Kelly wasn't doing something Trump wanted and this is a way of getting rid of him from DHS without firing him..

I was suspecting that the failure of the Senate Republicans to pass their bill was going to lead to a crackup. With Priebus out, the GOP has nobody in the WH aligned with the party leadership.

So.. how many of Trump's staff and Secretaries have rotated by this point?

Do we have a list anywhere?

Like.. this is insane. I knew Priebus and Bannon were constantly fighting, but I didn't expect the Bannon side to win... Though maybe I should have when Spicer quit, as he was a Priebus guy.

Trump canning Priebus after the healthcare debate is the obvious obervation. But putting the former commander of the Southern Command as his most trusted advisor next to Bannon is a very strong indicator of his next action, and apparently my suppositions on the American Foreign Policy thread seem to be more likely to be true.

In the WH? Pretty much. You still have Sessions within the Executive (though for how much longer is probably already on the Vegas books.)

I want a turn-based strategy game based on this administration, where doing the right things only accelerates your departure. Maybe in a few years?

Seriously though, I have no love for Preibus, but he seemed to be at least aware of how to navigate things in DC. Without even that voice on his team, I can't imagine what crazy things will come out of the White House now. Not like he was really reigning in Trump much, but at least he had a slight inkling of what he was doing.

I'm guessing Kelly is being brought on board for the purpose of rooting out that darn leakers.

I see they literally waited until 5 on a Friday for this announcement. I don't think the Friday news dump is as effective anymore though, it's too easy for this stuff to get out wide in an instant

you know, it's a good thing for reince that McCain "mavericked" it up yesterday - otherwise he'd be SOL wrt health insurance.

There's a reason why the VP slot has been likened to a "bucket of warm spit" - the enumerated powers are weak, and anything else is purely at the discretion of the President.

I am happy to see Trump further isolated, but I'm not happy to see him pulling another fucking former general who has said batshit things into his little circle.

Mattis and McMaster have been quiet for quite a while, so maybe it's nothing, but it feels very uncomfortable.

So....who wants to bet that Preibus knows where lots of, metaphorical, bodies are buried?

If he thinks the Trump can't deliver on GOP priorities, like healthcare, does he have any incentive to not just make Mueller his first call?

I think sessions better polish up his resume because I don't see him lasting long I don't think trump much cares if he can get a recess appointment or not I think he is going into rage cleaning of the white house.

    Party loyalty

Maybe he thinks he can get back in good graces with the GOP and get back to power somewhere in a few years, so he doesn't want to be a rat now

Surely this means impeachment is a lot closer? Even the GOP have to realise that they have lost the White House, right?

Apparently Scaramucci really wanted the Chief of Staff job, and that was partly why he was accusing Priebus of being a leaker.
