What about Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap? I think that was just a reskin of an old have, but I could be off.
Yeah, it is kind of a wild remaster art/sound-wise, but from what I understand the game is the same. You could even input old save game codes and it would load up from that.
I'm on mobile now, but a few games I see missing and I'll add later to the Google Doc:
The Jackbox Party Pack 4
Stranger Things: The Game
Puzzle Fighter
My brother ate my pudding
Serial Cleaner
Crazy Taxi Gazillionaire
BYE-BYE BOXBOY!
HQ Trivia
Mirage: Arcane Warfare
Crashy Cats
Guns of Mercy
Titanfall Assault

Is Shovel Knight: Spectre of Torment eligible? It's technically an expandalone, since it got its own release (Like Death of the Outsider), but it is based on an older game in part.......
Deemo also came out on Switch, assuming it’s the same game/version.
The Sexy Brutale also came out on Switch.

Catching up on the thread, and I say no for SkyrimVR and FalloutVR. They are the same narrative with improved viewpoint.
Spectre of Torment is such a weird case because it is technically an expansion, but it has its own protagonist and storyline. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Just to toot my own horn here, I am curating the GOTD (10-19) list (just like 00-09), so if not being able to vote on a remake/definitive edition is causing you personal peril, I'll see you in 2020.

I forgot that got a standalone release. I'd say to add it. It's in the same situation as Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry, which was on the list. I only argued against adding Plague of Shadows because it was part of the original game and simply released late.

How different are the levels in Spectre of Torment? The little bit I played seemed like an expansion pack, but definitely more complete than Plague of Shadows.

I mean, they're like in Plague of Shadows. Remixed versions of the levels that have some of the same screen layouts with new gimmicks and mostly entirely new screens for the rest of the level.
List in the second post has been updated with the version in the Google Doc. I'll make sure I go through everyone's posts tomorrow though and ensure everything mentioned has been added/removed.
Still in early access, so unless the EA rules change it's not eligible.
(Personally I'd keep the current EA rules mainly so I can vote for Subnautica next January.)
Also, from reading reviews, it seems that L.A. Noire VR Case Files is like Skyrim and Fallout 4 in that it's a port with no real new content, unlike Doom VFR.

Like, it uses the same assets.
When Plague of Shadows launched in 2015, it could only be acquired by buying Shovel Knight. The ability to buy the expansions as stand-alones was added when Specter of Torment launched last year.
I'm keen on getting games in when we think they're most likely to get the votes. The landscape of "Early Access" has totally changed now. I'd like to see Gorn in there because it's one of the more popular VR games at the moment - it probably won't be this time next year after it's 'official' release.
This is a community thing though, I just chuck up a very rough games list and op and let you guys do all the work so it's up to y'all to decide

Personally I'd say no early access games, since for every GORN and PUBG there are games that are in EA but much less functionally complete. I'm pretty sure games like Astroneer and Oxygen Not Included would get more attention and votes when they're closer to being complete.
Then there are all of the EA games that were excluded from previous GOTY lists, like Subnautica. Do they all get piled onto this year's list or just forgotten?
The only downside is that a few games that linger in EA forever might never get on a GOTY list, but I'm not too upset about that.
I'm not sure including Early Access games is a good idea. It bucks the trend. There are still great games in Early Access that started in 2016 and are still in the program. They would have been excluded in the past, and wouldn't be included this year since they aren't 2017 games. Do we only do this going forward, include EA games that started in 2017, but any EA games that started in 2016 and before need a full release?

I seem to recall it coming out last year in the USA and perhaps this year in the UK? It took a while to get to us.
Yeah - December 6th. I dunno if it was on last years' list though. If it wasn't I think we can probably let it in (mostly because I'd love to vote for it, it was fantastic)

Yeah, it looks like you inadvertently deleted several games. But not to worry! Thanks to version history I was able to restore them, and Dominions 5 is in the list too!

I Expect You To Die was on the 2016 GOTY list.
(There are downsides to listing literally every single game released during a calendar year in a GOTY nomination list, I guess.)

The biggest problem is that "here's a 2017 release list from Wikipedia" doesn't take into account the fact that a game may be a port. It's a great start, and I wholeheartedly thank Grinch for managing the list, but we have to put eyes on the list to watch for this stuff.

Ports always seem to get weeded out, but I feel bad for games released in January (since they get overshadowed by later releases) and December (since far fewer people get a chance to play them).
I don't know if it's more fair to keep things as they are or let December releases sneak into the following year's poll as well.

Well, I mean, that's why we moved voting to late January a couple years back. We have to have a cutoff, and allowing December games in the following year just causes people to do the same thing as they do with January games and forget them; doubly so because they'll be like "that was last year, so I'm not going to look for it on the list." Of course, if we completely whiff on including a December game, I think it's fine to put it on the following year, but we need to be careful about that. Hence, the purpose of this thread. Also, with Infidel adding the ability to re-vote, people often see what other people have voted for and can go re-vote.
I'd like to throw in my support for getting Specter of Torment on there, since it's definitely on my list and has completely different level layouts, game structure, and mechanics compared to the other two Shovel Knight games
That and, well, you can buy it independently of any other Shovel Knight game. It's sold separately! It's super a separate game. C'mon. C'mooooooooon.

All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.

Like, it uses the same assets.

Believe it or not. It's due to be out of early access this month, though.
Also, my entry in the "pedantic shit nobody cares about" contest is that there was no PC version of Just Dance 2018.
When Plague of Shadows launched in 2015, it could only be acquired by buying Shovel Knight. The ability to buy the expansions as stand-alones was added when Specter of Torment launched last year.

This is a community thing though, I just chuck up a very rough games list and op and let you guys do all the work so it's up to y'all to decide

I removed Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire since it is an expansion pack.
EDIT: Got exhausted partway through adding platforms for everything and it's past 5am, so I'm stopping. If anyone feels like helping, go ahead, and I'll fill in whatever's missing tomorrow.
Worm Dungeon is the best name for anything and they made a new Yo Noid game. Exciting times we live in

Whoops! That's what I get for not scrutinising the RPS GOTY list enough. Removed!
EDIT: OK, I've added platforms for every game that was missing them! I also added Touhou Tenkuushou ~ Hidden Star in Four Seasons, which I suppose got an international release even if it wasn't an English language one.
EDIT 2: Added Cinco Paus, Coincident Spaces, Doctor Kvorak's Obliteration Game, Don't make love, Engare, Full Speed Kiss, I Expect You To Die, Kyklos Code, Last Day of June, LOGistICAL, Lost Memories Dot Net, MOLOCH (Zero), Normal Human Face Simulator, office-zone with cat, Pigeon Game, Skate8, Super Blood Hockey, Tell Me What You See, That Blooming Feeling, we all get together to celebrate the birth of jesus christ, Witchball, and Yo! Let's UP.
I think I Expect You To Die came out in 2016... Was that on last year's list?
I wasn't able to check if it'd already been listed because goty.padev.net just says "Bad vhost." @Infidel?
EDIT: Oh of course, I can check the forum thread instead. Yup, it's there. Removed from the spreadsheet now!

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
RIP Mario Kart. You were old and therefore trash.

I seem to recall it coming out last year in the USA and perhaps this year in the UK? It took a while to get to us.
Yeah - December 6th. I dunno if it was on last years' list though. If it wasn't I think we can probably let it in (mostly because I'd love to vote for it, it was fantastic)

edit: I poked at the spreadsheet thingy. I think I did it wrong.

Ports always seem to get weeded out, but I feel bad for games released in January (since they get overshadowed by later releases) and December (since far fewer people get a chance to play them).
I don't know if it's more fair to keep things as they are or let December releases sneak into the following year's poll as well.

That and, well, you can buy it independently of any other Shovel Knight game. It's sold separately! It's super a separate game. C'mon. C'mooooooooon.
