I know this is kind of off topic and I'm really not constitutional scholar, but in regards to this who cryptocurrency thing... Isn't congress the only entity in the U.S. that can coin money (Article I, Section 10). Also, wasn't this because under the Articles of Confederation when the states were making their own coinage there was massive inflationary problems? Going a little deeper, didn't the Coinage Act of 1857 ended the status of foreign coins as legal tender?
Can someone tell me why these are legal in the first place and not a tool used to launder large amounts of money?
Is this just me?
Legally, the US treats Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency as property, not money. So when you buy something with Bitcoin, it's essentially the same as if you'd exchanged a certain amount of gold or diamonds or cattle for it. There are some interesting tax implications, or there would be if the number of people paying taxes on Bitcoin exchanges were statistically significant.
The thing that's different about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies compared to stocks/property is they can be transacted in fractional form, allowing them to be used for purchases of any amount. When trading for stocks/property, you have to use whole numbers, and so when something's real cost would be 2.7369 Cows, you'd only have the option of paying 3 Cows and potentially getting change back in a different currency. Bitcoin avoids that, by letting you trade the 2.7369 value without issue.

There's plenty of ways to trade fractional amounts of property. Securitization, joint leases, etc etc.
Even real money can be carved up. Stealing fractions of pennies was a key plot point in Office Space, and that movie's almost 20 years old.
The real thing about cryptocurrencies is they're a giant ponzi scheme.
If I don't see the humor value in Steamed hams, does that make me a replicant?

This thread is everything I thought this forum hated
Sometimes there is an Anime Music Video breakout. Other times a wild K-pop group will appear. If the thread seems to derail into a boring direction I'll just post something to help change the conversation.
I'm an old skool J-pop fan myself, but I think K-pop is cool, but I made a promise to myself if I ever put a face to a name, I've gone too far down the rabbit hole. The music is great, but I can't tell you a Taeyeon from a Hyoyeon.
When I lived in Japan, my favorite music label was Avex, and actually subbed concerts and put them up on a nascent YouTube. Then one day I got a strange subscriber that seemed to sub to every channel that had Avex music on it. After a few days every single channel that person subbed to was nuked. This was when content flags were not a report, but was a flag option right under the video. The repose from YouTube at the time was to nuke from orbit any copyright claim, and there was no option to dispute. I only recently got my user name back after 8 years.
Sadly, Avex had banned the export of any DVD, Blu-Ray, and CD they make. Anyone caught exporting can get caught for copyright infringement. (There is no first-sale doctrine in Japan and copyright holders have a say of how copyrighted works can be used or sold after purchase). Avex is a private company and I guess want to have income based on licensing fess as opposed to actual sales.
There is a reason I don't sub concerts anymore, which is sad because I had a really unique way of line-for-line translating them to keep the poetry intact, even when the verbs were shifted around to other lines. (Every line on the lyric sheet = every line on the screen). I did it for two years. I also didn't rely on those stupid "*nakama=best friend" sub-sub titles that have to explain why you left a Japanese word in your translation. If you have to explain your subtitles, you have failed as a translator. Don't even get me started on "tsundere" that's NOT EVEN A REAL JAPANESE WORD!!!!!!
Sorry, opened old wounds.

the original bit kills me but I'm pretty over the remixes already I think
I think it's one of those things where the strength of the original material is carrying a lot of the weight, where normally people would be trying to take something and ironically make it actually funny and so all the humor would lie in the attempt.

The thing about Steamed Hams and Simpsons shitposting in general is that it re contextualizes bits we're already all familiar with making them new again. It's a weird observational humor where the observation is constantly that a lot of people will recognize jokes from episodes that aired years ago being combined into one new joke. In theory every Simpsons shitpost should be too obscure to work. You couldn't do the same thing with Kids in the Hall or MST3K because they're too outside of the mainstream consciousness and you couldn't pull it off with something like Family Guy or The Critic or South Park because their jokes are already too reliant on references. Even similarly long running popular shows with a lot of iconic bits like SNL wouldn't feel right being remixed like The Simpsons is.
