Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is the sequel to developer Fatshark's sleeper hit original. It takes place during the End Times of the Warhammer Fantasy universe, when the skaven have united into an unholy mass to invade the surface world, and Chaos is also preparing to sweep in and utterly destroy everything. You're playing as members of the Ubersreik Five (or four, doesn't matter), the heroes from the original Vermintide that survived the events from that game. The End Times are still in full swing, however, so you've been tapped again to defend the world against the skaven and their new Nurgle-aligned allies from Chaos. So while the Old World may be doomed to
reboot into a trademark-friendly new franchise end, you can still take as many of the furry and rotten bastards with you.
If you haven't played the first game, the gameplay is similar to Left for Dead. You and three other players have to get from point A to B, completing simple objectives along the way. A reactive AI picks item spawns, creates hordes of enemies to harass you, and every so often drops in special enemies to keep you on your toes. Where the game deviates from this formula is in combat and progression (in that it has progression). Whereas L4D gives you infinite ammo for at least your pistol, Vermintide is way more melee oriented, requiring you block, dodge, and weave through enemies to stay alive. Your defensive maneuvers are also limited by stamina, so you can't just infinitely push your way to victory. While ranged weaponry does exist, ammo is a precious resource that you can't count on. I've gone through several games where you can end up high-and-dry for well over half the map, so don't waste ammo. The game also offers additional challenge via Tomes and Grimoires, items hidden throughout the map. Tomes are minor bonuses but eat up a healing slot, and Grimoires are major bonuses but cut the entire party's HP by 1/3 for each one you have. Carry them to the finish line, and rewards await.
Which is a good time to bring up progression. The game has five heroes, and Vermintide gives each hero three classes. Heroes are largely defined by their available weapons (although a few weapons are class-restricted). As you finish games, you will level up and unlock new classes and weapons. There are also lootboxes, but
wait don't leave. Fatshark has confirmed that buying lootboxes will never be a thing, and they are solely unlocked via gameplay. Anyways, the better you do in a game, the more likely you are to get a better box with better stuff. Items follow a standard rarity hierarchy, and there's also crafting to help you get more ideal weapons. The game also features cosmetics such as hats, hero skins, and weapon illusions, so you can be the prettiest exterminator in the Reiklands.
The game is out NOW, so give it a spin and enjoy the visceral thrill that is separating ratmen heads from bodies.

It is the best LFD game ever.
The polish on these titles is just amazing.

Being ages since I played the original but AFAIK the main thing is that it's more of a curve based on your character level now with difficulties all having a cap of the 'best' equipment that can drop from there.
Now on a successful run you get a lootbox and you get progressively better ones for grabbing all grims/tomes. If you get everything then I think you're guaranteed the second best lootbox and then there's a random element that can help boost you higher.
Each lootbox has three items, which early on will be a lot of charms and such, but I find after a couple levels start dropping quite a few weapons. Much better than 1 where I wouldn't frequently get a bunch of extra die, roll zip on all, and walk away with shit. Still nothing on a loss though.
also they don't do a very good job explaining to you what heavy attacks are for
(perhaps unintuitively, they're for killing lots of dudes at once)
The game is terrible at explaining shit, however. Fatshark is squarely in the game of "let players figure it out!" and I think there's even LESS information on what a weapon does than in VT1. Since the game has mod support, this may all be fixed in a few months, but it's still super obnoxious.
Why are you no longer on my Steam list? We should be terrible at this game together.
Also certain enemies can only be harmed with heavies.
Well not necessarily, IIRC, some enemies (especially the armored Chaos Warrior) need to be hit with armor penetrating blows, and a lot of weapons only have armor penetration on their heavies, but some weapons are armor penetrating most of the time, which makes them very strong against those enemies (though such weapons tend to be worse at hitting multiple targets, though not always)
I do miss the old look they had for the unarmored Chaos Warriors but I get why they made the change (the new Executioner looking guys are much more distinctive in a crowd where in the beta they just looked like taller Rotblood troopers with a bigger axe)
but i havent played anything like this since LfD 1, and this is just a turbo version of the exact same game
the loot seems like little more than a diversion... it sucks to find a really good orange item only for it to be obsolete 2 missions later because the power creep seems to be a literal constant, even across alts... I grinded up the elf to level 12 really fast, then switched to level 1 witch hunter, and was instantly finding items superior in power to my elf
maybe at the end game when it mellows out, but while playing the meat of the game, any pretense of "builds" is lost by the fact that you'll never be running the same equipment more than 3 missions in a row
The thing that's keeping me engaged is this game is way harder than I ever remember LfD being... quickmatching on veteran delivers a win rate of way under 50%, WAY under. So grinding up to the point you can start carrying people is appealing

It takes something like 50 power to make a difference, so don't overvalue power vs traits
My Steam
Yeah! What level I need to be?

and it has real bosses! so rad.
At low levels chaos fiends or whatever the tentacled bosses are, are way too difficult, and at all levels the warpfire rat ogres are easy peasy.
Bardin's starting class is pretty terrible and I'm bummed they got rid of that kerillian subclass trait where she has uninterruptible rezzes. Kruber's starting class is super crazy good, and I just cannot figure out how to be helpful as witch hunter or pyromancer classes.
When using two handers with sweep attacks, remember you can spin your entire body with your attack and hit even more targets! Real crazy whirlwind stuff! Especially as Kruber with your increased cleave targets.
Huh thats weird
The id thing is moocowrawrz but searching for chris jakiro should work as well
Are you sure? i see it in the UI
man this game on Champion mode is INSANE. i would love to do a squad to take this on.
very first pub run, we get pretty much everything the game can throw at you in the very first encounter... double chaos champion, tentacle boss, horde rush, and about 5 different specials, all at once. was extremely fucked
we died.

sienna's all about those fireballs
you can get tons of ranged kills with her
also her fire swords apply a DoT effect that's nice against bosses
in other news, Arcadum is streaming him playing as Slayer while he listens to metal
it is pretty choice

WH is slightly weird but he's essentially very balanced if you access what depth there is. He has a great selection of guns that he can season to his party comp. He also has unlimited light blocking, which is more useful than you think. He can stand up to a wave of elites pretty well while the backline melts them
I've put the most time unto the Elf. I think the Wayfinder is A+, especially with ammo talents + shieldbreaker bow. The middle career with her is also good, very effective as bosses and other big boys
i think her final career is complete trash. There are so few situations where her passives will be relevant + the risk of getting hookratted going for big flanks. I need to check the talent tree again to see if there's something that validates her at higher levels but... p. sure the Wayfinder can do basically the same job with no risk

The uninterruptible revive is definitely there on the Handmaiden. It's another one of her mostly useless traits (as far as I can tell actual reasons to pick Handmaiden is just to be a stamina battery for higher difficulties).
roughly 15% of a bosses health on veteran. this is quite good. otherwise.. her backstabs frankly don't seem to work at all... the targetting dummy may be bugged, but it's hardly noticeable even in games.
either way i await a patch for her because her talent descriptions are confusingly worded to a point where i feel they may.. actually be completely wrong... or something

the other thing is that her invisibility, like throwing smoke as the dwarven ranger, is hella bugged and half the time doesn't shed agro
honestly right now it's hard to even judge whether she's good just because of that, and anyway the opportunity cost of not playing Waystalker is pretty high to begin with
Oh well ill still roll with it
Accidentally exploding because you take damage and generate overcharge is pretty great though
On top of half more HP than other classes, you also take half damage. So think of your health as a giant resource for venting. You're also fantastic for bosses since you can load up on overcharge, block an tack to burn it all, and then burn a second attack since you used less stamina on the first block. These attacks and those from powerful specials like Stormvermin or Chaos Warriors are an easy way to vent for free via blocking.
The class is far from perfect though, as it has a lot of bugs. Particularly annoying is when your heat doesn't clear when you're down, so you get revived only to immediately explode. Her active also becomes very hard to use on any difficulty with friendly fire. It's stupid.
not really, everyone has a range option just limited by ammo. the tutorials keep telling you you HAVE to use it for the armored moobs too.
Armoured foes can be head shot or hit with charged attacks from most enemies.
