Yeah that's kind of why I was asking. I know there was some slight magic by the time of the train ride but there wasn't this massive ghostly demon thing bashing against what seems to be a literal wall of faith sort of deal.

I get the feelings that ssss is strong enough to hold settlements, but not enough to conquer vast infested territory.
Even this scenario is happening with a woman who lived and died by her faith.
Yeah, the Norwegians are the only people making inroads at this point of the story. The Danish tried and it ended badly, the Icelanders are safe as long as the quarantine isn't broken, and the Finns live on islands.

I'd like to see this story line ending with Patrick shooting his mother to death, getting his father immediate medical attention, then threatening his father into silence. That'd be an interesting twist, and would make sense given Patrick specified his father needed to be stabbed in the stomach. (That's a wound you can reasnobly expect to survive if you receive immediate medical care and the knife is left in the wound.)
But I don't think this is where the author's going with this.
Or he could just call the cops and say this woman just stabbed her husband. She can claim mind-control, but she doesn't seem too keen on acknowledging that the supervillain is her son, so the questioning could get awkward.

His wife (supposedly) killed their son and he decided to stay married.
I mean, divorce should really have been the minimum reaction there.

Then he realized that wasn’t going to happen as that’s why he gave Mom the knife. She’s capable, and he doesn’t get the feelings from her.
