Like, it is a show doing a damn good job mainstreaming trans relationships. It doesnt need to check every box on the diversity rainbow to be doing good work.

So I've never gotten my driver's license, for reasons that are a combination of laziness and a lack of need since most of my adult life I've lived in places with decent public transport infrastructure and/or friends who do drive
HOWEVER simonwaifu made it clear a while ba l that she would Greatly Appreciate her future husband learning how to drive so I've been taking lessons for a couple of months now
Today I've got to do the "Hazard Perception Test" at the driving test place (computer test where you watch videos and determine if/when it is necessary to slow down or safe to do stuff like overtake/turn right), which will then let me take my full drivers license test in two weeks
now all I need is a salary and I'll be an Adult??

It isn't that I want it to check boxes on the diversity rainbow. It's more that, for a show that is about people connecting to one another, I find the main cast alienating.
The trans hacker girl is the only character I relate to at all.
every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.
the "no true scotch man" fallacy.

Every one of them is vulnerable in some way while also being exceptional in others.
Not all of the cast speaks to me, but they are all very similar while coming from vastly different backgrounds.

I do often have trouble feeling represented- as a mentally ill, a Jew, whatever- because all of tv is so beautiful. Probably doesn’t help that you have the fat creepy pedophile with a scar or whatever. Damn you baron harkonnen

Okay that was a pretty bad abortive attempt to quit caffeine cold turkey. Maybe I will taper over a longer time period? Usually I prefer getting things over with but I'm not sure I've ever been this dependent before
Caffeine is a right bastard. I've heard some health professionals comment that caffeine and sugar are harder to quit than smoking.
In my experience this may be true because after 9 weeks of neither, I was able to hold off on smoking again but the first thing I did when I graduated from basic was buy a Red Bull.
i am lucky that i don't have too much of a psychological addiction*, it's just physical
*this is tricky to say because especially when I am not dependent caffeine is fuckin' magical and I want it for the positive effects so it is psychologically difficult to only have it 4 days a week which is ideal for not getting dependent again. But I don't think I would struggle really to go 30 or 60 days without on a dare or something. After day 3 it would be pretty easy to stay in the groove.
When I went from far, far too much caffeine (700mg avg, a few days I'd top 1g) to under 200mg daily I had flu symptoms for about 2 months. They were mild in comparison to the real thing, but I had body aches, nausea, and a headache even with caffeine intake.

I feel lots of shows celebrate mentally ill people who use their issues to power their capabilities and careers.
House was mentally ill as fuck, amazing doctor.

Er celebrate might not be the right word there.
I mean, yeah... I get that.
TV tends to show mentally unwell people in two lights... homeless or wildly successful with some hangups and nothing inbetween.
As someone not fully put together in the traditional sense, shows where smart but socially challenged folks succeeded gave me hope, and I just ignored that he was a drug addict who drove a car into his boss' thanksgiving dinner.

He’s also good looking and chart breakingly brilliant
I get for some people, they crave representation as empowerment, with superheroes or models of their color or beliefs. That’s not what I mean. I’m not looking to be empowered by seeing people with my problems or non mainstream traits be amazing despite them. I’m looking to see people who are like me (including: not brilliant, not good looking), period. Which is far less common, since when it isn’t super-empower time these traits often code as crazy and offputting

Yeah. I wasn't in the right geographical or chronological location to experience Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood.
But that man was a net plus for humanity.

That's just physics
I hate being dependent. I have some time before job where I don't have to see people so quitting for two days and then drinking less is the plan
yeah, its called frame skipping. reality only moves at 60 frames a second, so you can get between the frames of reality if you are fast enough.

Fuck this earth
I'd like a plate that reads YAHYAHYAHYAHYAH.
but I couldn't get past how like every frame was extremely boring to look at so I didn't manage to stick with it at all
That whole story has been cool.

Yeah but having an actual mental illness isn't a gateway into being a savant, and most mental illnesses shown on tv are removed from reality.
I don't see how my anxiety or panic disorder makes things easier day to day, and I can't leverage it in a positive light. Same with my depression.
Planescape is full of absurd hilarity and violence.

Symmetra from Overwatch, The Accountant, The Good Doctor - the list of autistic protagonists is definitely growing in the last few years.
