This article goes into it. Basically, has to do with the fact that our laws aren’t really set up to prosecute domestic terrorism.

I imagine they will wait until they have gone through their evidence. They probably don't want to rush this as they have him, and he's charged

I really can't see that happening. It's not like this guy has anything on him, there's nothing to gain from pardoning him.

Aside from being a power play? Pardoning the domestic terrorist to own the Dems.

It’s stupid and petty, but that’s exactly why I think he’d do it.

Nah. He only goes so far in supporting the openly violent neo-nazis. Mostly because even Fox News almost certainly won't have people on saying this guy should go free. The right as a whole usually just plays interference for their domestic terrorists rather then actively backing them.

Plus he's got no political connections so there's no one whispering in Trump's ear via the phone or cable news to let the guy go.

Wait, are there not terrorism charges?

There's no law specifically against domestic terrorism, but the legal definition requires the breaking of a state or federal law. It's a category with no additional penalties associated with it.
Also makes it damn hard for groups like the KKK to be prosecuted as a whole, rather than as individuals commit crimes.

I'm sure this has been said in thread, but this guy is literally the right's definition of what a crazy racist actually looks like. They're not going to support him, even if conservative outlets and politicians are tacitly/overtly supporting one of his fundamental conspiracy theories, re: Soros and the migrant caravan.

Trump and the GOP and conservatives in general do have a logic to their stances, even if they're patently wrong. They're not just out there doing whatever. To them, racism looks like this. It looks like the KKK and anyone who will just blatantly say "I hate x group of people" to anyone who will listen. There are absolutely white supremacists in the GOP, including Trump, but they know that the normal every day GOP voter is not that. The normal GOP voter looks at this situation and finds it morbidly vindicating. "See, this is what a racist looks like. They look like Dylan Roof and this guy. They're crazy, they're seething with hatred, and they act on it. I'm not like that, I am 100% not a racist and my support of the GOP is not racist. This guy didn't even like Trump!!!"

This is what makes racism in general so seductive and insidious. You can be so entrenched in it, raised in such a system where it is endemic to the system and serves as the bedrock of your world view, that you will never, ever see it unless you spend serious time and effort in self reflection and learning from someone who says that you're wrong. It looks like a million other things, with a million other names, and there's always always always plausible deniability for what it actually is. "It's not racism, it's a hard truth about nuclear families and dead beat dads. It's not racism, it's cultural differences that mean that african americans don't want better jobs or financial stability. It's not racism, it's just that we can't be expected to let anyone into our country. It's not racism, it's just that Islam pushes people to violence, have you even read the Qur'an?"

The system will put this guy away and make a huge show of it, because of how much they see him as the real problem, and not their entire structure that created him.

    This is the thing

    He doesn't support the neo-nazis

He just doesn't disown them and refuses to say anything negative about them until political pressure forces him to say "Ok so they're bad but there's a lot of bad people on both sides so who is to say *Ha-Wink*"

This is actually how I got my roommate that was a diehard supporter (for stupid reasons that relate to 15 years ago) to go from diehard supporter to "Well I voted for him so I think I have to support him... I think... but wait it seems like he doesn't wanna offends neo-nazis... that seems... hrm"

Like I haven't gotten her to "FUCK THIS GUY" yet but I got her from almost conspiracy theory levels of blind defense to at least the shit he actually does warranting consideration.

...I can't believe getting someone to actually consider, not agree with, but just consider that what Trump does might be fucking dumb and/or harmful feels like progress and yet

How? Because you've spent most of your life believing that even if you disagreed politically with the President, that there was a bare minimum standard to which he would uphold himself. That you were taught to at least respect the office, if not the man.

That is just no longer the case. It's impossible to respect the man, and given HE doesn't respect the office, it's hard for others to.

But you're fighting against what is hardwired. And you still have hope enough to be shocked. It's when you're no longer shocked or at least disappointed that it's a problem. Because that means you're accepting it as the new normal.

Once you acknowledge that he's unfit for presidential office - this failure to contextualize a national incident being a redundant reminder - there's little to be shocked at. All things considered, there will be another election.

Marty: The future, it's where you're going?
Doc: That's right, twenty five years into the future. I've always dreamed on seeing the future, looking beyond my years, seeing the progress of mankind. I'll also be able to see who wins the next twenty-five world series.

That's the thing about mail bombs, they weren't sent priority express. There's a decent chance a couple more are still working their way through the postal system and haven't been caught yet. It'll take ~a week after his arrest before the threat and risk is truly over.

For some minorities and LGBT folk this isn’t an acceptance of a new normal, it is and has been normal. America has long, long been violent towards those perceived as a threat to the established order, what has changed is that the mainstream liberal coalition is getting the full force of othering from the conservatives these days, with the associated violence.

I honestly can't believe Trump is handling this so badly. Sure, it's not GREAT for him, because it's one of his supporters but this is such an easy time for him to show some utterly trivial 'moderation' which wont upset his supporters and will win him praise on the news and earn the Republicans votes. The guy was so obviously crazy that it allows him an easy out to criticize the angry guy living in his van mailing explosivies, while not upsetting his supporters who live in their parents basements shouting on Reddit.

Remember that time Charlie Kirk asked him what he'd do about all the persecution his supporters face on campus and he was so incapable of processing the idea of being hated that he insisted on the spot he was popular with college students?

This is a good explanation. (Short version: his base support is built on division, so not only does he not have any reason to moderate, he has a number of reasons not to.)
