Huh. When I saw Zeal and Ardor twice last year, I had wondered why their bassist wasn't with them. Turns out she has a nasty chronic illness. Seeing them without her wasn't too bad the first time because the bassist from Baroness filled in, but on their headlining tour there was no one. They used a backing track and it didn't sound as good. Hopefully she can recover, or at least find some way of dealing with it.
Often we can say "one of the all-time greats" and mean it. But Peart was at the top of that top tier.
Jesus. This is a bastard to hear today of all days. Just after Christmas my mum was diagnosed with lung cancer. And on her lymph nodes. Today we find out it's in her liver too and it's incurable. She starts chemo next week. And in various discussions with people in the wake of all that, I shit you not, I hear from my ex that our old foster daughter (who she and her new husband since adopted, and who is now a married adult herself) considered me the first father she really had, which I've never heard her say before, and I was already in bits and now this and goddammit
fucking hell I'm a mess here
Edit: and it was fucking cancer that took Neil too.

Hey, if any of you guys feel like experiencing the aural equivalent of an ice pick lobotomy, give the first track off of Poppy’s new album a listen.
Garry: I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time I'd rather not spend the rest of the winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!
You know, I was going to suggest Auto do Meshuggah for a discography review, but then I realized that that could be really hard: "This song goes dju dju-dju dju dju dju-dju dju dju and it's really hypnotic, whereas this song goes dju dju dju-dju dja and it's not as hypnotic".
All these folks trying to be the Hiroo Onoda of the Loudness War...
Someone also mentioned I hadn't done Carcass...really! I've only reviewed Heartwork a long time ago.
So I think Borknagar and Carcass are locked in, along with Opeth, for this year, in coming months. Helloween definitely going on the schedule for next year, and a bunch of the other suggestions are possibilities soon.
In the meantime, I plan to close out at least two more discographies in January.
Having listened to this thing like three times now I can say it's probably the best Midnight album to date. I mean if you want Venom for 2020 then you need look no further.

Midnight puts on a great live show but I can’t see myself ever putting their record on at home

loathe used to be a metalcore outfit from liverpool i was only semi-aware of but i found this track they released a couple days ago and its a seriously shoegazy deftones job
Accept, U.D.O., Chastain, Armored Saint, Slough Feg, Primordial, Black Sabbath, Negura Bunget, Melechesh, Leviathan, Shining, D666, Leprous, Gorgoroth, Barathrum, Impaled Nazarene plus any of the Big Four.
Basically went through my iPod and just threw out all the bands that would be cool to see.

This is some nice greek black metal. Yoth Iria, made up of a mix of ex-Rotting Christ and Varathron members.
First single from their upcoming release in March.
Harakiri for the Sky announced a North America Tour. Only 14 stops though, and missing my town, but I know there are some HftS fans in here who might want to know. Numenorean and Eneferens are opening, but I don't know those bands yet.
That's hardly a new accusation, people were saying it years ago.
Love the cover, really love her logo font, I should track that down (if it's not custom made for the record). Looking forward to hearing it, I like most of her stuff, didn't care for that last EP much though.
If I remember correctly, she did an interview a while back and said that Muslims were invading Denmark, and that Islam was incompatible with western values. It's dumb, but I'm not sure it's any dumber than you'll hear from your Fox News watching uncle at Thanksgiving.

But for a full discography, I'd definitely be interested in seeing some Borknagar reviews.
Anathema and Borknagar are great ideas. It is patently absurd that I've never written a full Borknagar review.
Someone mentioned to me that I hadn't done Rage or Running Wild discographies yet either.
I think maybe I'll do all the huge power metal discogs next year, like those, Helloween, Manowar, Grave Digger, etc, that could be cool.
Honestly, there are too many good bands that need love. Any will do!

This is hitting me hard. Neil was one of a trifecta (along with Cozy Powell and Scott Rockenfield) that got me started behind a kit in the 90s.
When I get home, it'll be time to sit in the battery and see if I can still do Natural Science justice.

@SteevL, Green Carnation is putting out a new album this year.
