It's strange, I preordered this CD on Amazon, and they canceled it. So I just preordered it again.
I wonder if stuff is up with CDs right now, not that it would be at all surprising. I pre-ordered Nightwish's forthcoming new album in digibook form, and while the Amazon page has bumped the release date back by a week, my order is showing as "pre-ordered" with no particular delivery date.
As my PC Engine CoreGrafx Mini was indefinitely postponed due to coronavirus-related manufacturing delays, and Amazon UK were incredibly slow at updating the order with that info, I wonder if new CDs will suffer similar delays - they may be simpler and quicker to manufacture, but they still need manufacturing.
(Annoyingly, Amazon are apparently offering AutoRip with the regular CD, but not the digibook. Hopefully that's an oversight on the page, but they seem to be playing silly buggers with what qualifies for AutoRip and what doesn't these days.)

When I bought the new Demons & Wizards CD, I bought the standard edition. The autorip version I got access to was the limited edition digipak version. They really don't have their shit together there, and I don't expect it to ever improve.

Yeah, I got the PC Engine Mini too and it's been delayed for awhile. I'm not sure when but I've even heard early next year.
The only other thing I see is that some of the formatting is off on the '95 list; it looks like most of the entries are a few points lower in font size. Not sure how that happened or if it's even on your end.

I've noticed this on a few entries from time to time, might meddle with it later but it's not a big deal.
Two more lists for the night. It's actually been more refreshing doing these 90s lists as they are less set in stone to me, more adjustable. And it's interesting to see how some things hold up or grow on diminish me as the years pass. The 00s will be crazy because there will be so much to comb over and double-check. I think for now I'll plan to go up to 2010, and then maybe every year going forward I'll go back and revise one (2011 in 2021, etc).
I'm pretty surprised about which albums are seeing significant drops on these lists: The Jilmnice Occultist, Latex Cult, Black to the Blind falling more than a few spots; Nattens Madrigal, De Profundis, Battles In the North, and Effigy of the Forgotten getting dropped entirely.

It really only seems that way from the outside. I have hundreds of albums to look over for each year, and many MORE each year than I originally had. I'm only putting 20 up there. If my opinion shifted even a tiny fraction (a few percent) over the decade or so then they're going to move around. Very often it's more because something has grown on me, rather than something souring on me. I still like all those albums quite a lot, but they're swimming in a bigger sea with a lot of currents.
I'm more surprised that the vast majority of them have remained on the lists!
Yeah, totally. I guess I just didn't heed your warning about the 90's being more loose than the 80's. Those first batches of lists didn't change all that much, so I figured that would be the norm. It's definitely cool seeing all these records popping up that I've never heard of, though. Especially those grunge albums. I've never really explored that scene outside of Soundgarden.

I highly recommend Mudhoney, Screaming Trees, and Seaweed too, even though they won't appear on the lists. All fabulous bands. Mudhoney is still around, and Mark Lanegan from Screaming Trees has a pretty successful solo career with a lot of decent records. But yeah, for unsung heavier grunge bands, My Sister's Machine, Gruntruck and Tad are incredible.
Thanks for posting this! Lost a friend to liver cancer last night so this cheers me up a bit.
That bites, my sincerest condolences, cancer of every stripe is a bitch that needs to be eradicated from this world. Not sure if its exactly to your taste, but one piece of music I find myself gravitating towards when death calls in my relationship bubble is this:
For me it encapsulates that no matter how fantastic you get along in the world, life/reality will eventually go to dark places, but there is still light, hope, and joy for those that remain, so long as the spirit of those that leave this plane stay alive in your thoughts.

The next batch of lists is complete. Quite a few changes to 2001, about 50% of the list is new, and that will probably be the norm going forward. In fact, there will be a couple lists to come with brand new #1 slots, and at least one of them wasn't even originally there!
Fire away any edits you see, I caught some stuff but there are probably more. One or two of the review links might link to someone else's review, but I placed it on the list according to my own rating.
Sorry about your friend, Auto. This is such an unfortunate time too since it's so difficult for people to come together to grieve.
Great continued work on the lists.
Edits: Rusted Angel needs that sweet review link, and Vomitory is still mentioned in the description of the 2000 list.

WolfBlack Wings is a 2002 album and it looks like Primal FearNuclear Fire is technically a 2000 album (released a month early in Japan) but I'm leaving that one up to you since the 'main' release is 2001.

Got my physical copy of the new Lady Beast in the mail today...and for some reason there was also the rear CD insert for a Destructor album sitting loose in the package?

I get these sometimes. It could be an accident but more likely some cheap promotion. Maximum Destruction is the best Destructor album and Reaper put that reissue out too.
A solid debut, with the normal unevenness one expects. But at least there's now an alternate source for geeky historical metal besides the likes of Serenity or Sabaton

Yeah, some songs are very good, some songs are not. I think I'm plucking 3 of them for my gym lift list at least. I think I've listened to the last track 100 times because Melissa's voice is fucking incredible. I don't think she has the technical chops like Floor does, but her timbre and actual vocal quality is just mesmerizingly good.
Here: 1:06 (especially 1:18 tho) to whenever. Just unbelievable tones, goosebumps every single time.

All hail Vader.
Excellent. Thank you.
And, hey, look at that, Bal-Sagoth gets to be on a list!

I like it, but...it's nothing terribly unexpected from Night Demon. If you didn't care for them before, this probably won't sway you.

One of those lists is also clearly missing its proper grim frost-bitten Blashyrkh-ness. :P

Okie dokie, let me know if there are any more things to fix, and then I'll move on to the next year.

That's fucking solid. Preordered.
Got it. Will try to finish at least '99 and 2000 today.
I also made one more adjustment to the 1998 list, booting off Gore Metal and adding Angra's Fireworks which had been misplaced on a later list.

Some interesting new stuff I've encountered lately, to keep my thoughts elsewhere.
Spacious, atmospheric funeral doom from Canada.

More cool Canadian doom on Prosthetic records.

New EP from a very solid Finnish black metal band, cover art on this kills but isn't in the video (their debut album was also good).

Savage, eerie black metal demo from Texas.

Yeah, I honestly feel this way about several of their albums, some really good songs on them but just not consistent enough yet.
Thanks.
Fixed them!
they also sent the palace of worms and ecferus split to me as a bonus! that's super cool
Got it. Sliding that over a year and adding Mystical Beast of Rebellion back to the 2001 list.
