I was also thinking for instance ZSS, I don't think you can avoid that 1v1 really.
Eh, isn't it basically a circle that's telegraphed? Dodgeroll out of the way just as it fires and then you move faster than it.
I've obviously never had a chance to try that and easier said than done, but Z-axis stuff can be wonky and less reliable. Even Bowser's FS can be spot dodged, it's just harder because you have to read your opponent rather than the visual to time it.
...it just occurred to me that the fight with The Boss spirit is very fitting to be Zamus. The way the Final Smash meter builds, she usually gets a Final Smash just as time is nearly up. Samus’s Gunship is standing in for the planes getting ready to bomb the field where Snake and The Boss fought.

I bet they wanted to have the battle end with sudden death bombs but it would be too easy to cheese the AI on.
Rules:
1. Tournament is double elimination, best of three. Finals (Winners', Losers', and Grand) will be best of five.
2. Matches will be set to three stocks at eight minutes.
3. Items are off; Smash Meters are off.
4. Stage Hazards are set to off.
4. Mii Fighters are allowed.
5. Stage of first match is chosen via stage strike, with the higher seeded player striking first.
6. Subsequent stages are chosen by the loser of the prior match after the winner of said match bans three stages.
7. You may not select a stage that you have previously won on in the set.
8. Seeding will be random for the first few tournaments to get a better idea of player skill.

Neutral: Final Destination*, Battlefield*, Smashville, Pokemon Stadium, Unova Pokemon League

*Omega and BF configurations are legal, although a player reserves the right to ban any specific stages if the graphical effects interfere with their ability to play.
Hrm...I might sign up. For once I don't have any IRL conflicts. I have been playing online alot and feel like I'm alittle bit better than last time so I might not get bodied so badly.

I was in the 2v2 queue, with items turned off as my preferred rules, so of course I get dropped into a 1v1 against a guy who has pokeballs and hammers and all kinds of crazy shit just raining from the sky. After I lost my first stock this dude had a legit army of critters built up and I just resigned myself to defeat. I took two off him, but I was at 160% or something as Sheik so you can imagine how that last stock went.
I declined the stupid rematch, but when my 2v2 popped the doofus was on the other side against my Richter and a ZSS. No items. And we absolutely annihalated him and his buddy. I gained back more GSP than I lost, and he bailed on the rematch tout de suite.
It was honestly my first win in days and it was glorious.

Anyone have tips for playing against Ganondorf as Lucina? I'm in the 2.5 to 3.0 mill gsp range.
Most heavies I just stick to the air and wait for one of their slow moves to come out, but Ganondorf's fair and nair both seem to outrange my aerials, and I have trouble on the ground dealing with his side-b, down-b and ftilt.
Please consider the environment before printing this post.

Yeah, you showed that guy who queued for 1v1 with items and had no input whatsoever on your being matched against him. What a doofus he was for wanting to play an online match using different options.
I mean, try to keep some perspective. It's not their fault the matchmaker is giving you a bad time, anymore than it is your fault when they get thrown into a match using the rules you queued for instead of what they preferred.
Hey y'all, just a reminder: tournament tomorrow at 7PM! Don't forget to sign up, and also that check-ins start an hour before the fighting

I beefed my GSP up a fair bit when I got matched with a Wario whose preferred rules were 2 minute timed matches with items. Snagged some easy wins that way!
I'm starting to think the most fun I have online is when I get tossed into a doubles match. I usually que without preferred rules, since I don't care much about what my imaginary number says about me.
Sometimes you get a double partner that's just awful though, they end up eating your stocks for little to no gain, but then you get people who just know how to work with you. I might start setting my rules up for doubles.
One thing that is bugging me more about Ultimate (and probably Smash in general) is how often you need to tech off the floor. For a game that simplified fighting games (in terms of control scheme at least) it's interesting that they, in my opinion, complicated it by making it that you frequently need to do this maneuver. Even at 0% a simple A combo (that completes) sends you back a bit and requires a tech.

For perspective, this was at something like 50k GSP, so down in the depths my losses are almost always to people like this. All the items they like, at high frequency, and usually 3 minutes or less on the clock. It’s hard for me to get a ‘regular’ match, and I’ve been bemoaning both my lack of skill and matchmaking woes extensively around here. It wasn’t meant as an attack against you or anybody who likes items on, I was just sharing an experience with my PA friends. Hell, I like turning items on, but there’s a difference between doing it for fun and it being your only viable strategy for winning. I run into a lot of the latter, so it was nice to get another shot at this guy on a more level playing field and win.
I apologize if I wasn’t clear, but I meant to make a lighthearted post. In the future, I’ll be better about explaining where I’m coming from. Or you can always just ignore my posts.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to cause any hard feelings, your post just read very negative towards the player and not the matchmaker, which seemed misplaced.

We got attacked by a very talkative employee at the nursery while buying plants, so I might not make it back in time for the tournament. Please don't wait up if I'm not checked in by the start time.
So, this'll be my first of our Smush tournaments. I'm assuming that pre-match discussions (striking stages and announcing characters switches) will be done via the Discord, on the tournaments section.

Your sword is a disjointed hitbox. His fist is not. Your aerials should beat his aerials.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Another successful tournament! Actually a better turnout than last week's, which stands to reason due to no PAX I guess
Our winner this week was Meta Hybird! Second tournament they've participated in and the second victory, though Zilik put up a vicious bracket reset before it was over!
Also some really great games in the post-tournament this week. Not yet, not yet, but soon... Isabelle will be ready

I just want to reiterate how well you did; we should play against each other sometime, I want to see who you main and how!

Those sets were seriously nailbiting for me, and there were a lot of moments were Zilik made me scared of doing anything. Really great matches!
I'm pretty happy with how my Ridely is going, I'm trying to get Zelda up there as well, but it looks like I got a ways to go with her still.
in 2v2, it sometimes (usually?) stacks the two higher GSP players on the same team.
even if it measures nothing... why would you do that? why wouldn't you try and balance teams at all?

Kindof a cross-post from the MK thread but Ed Boon gave a recent interview where he answered, without hesitation, that he would like to see Scorpion in Smash. I had in the back of my mind Sub-Zero could possibly show up as a DLC character since MK11 is going to be on Switch, but hey, maybe Scorpion? Seems like the door is open, at least.

Bugger, I just registered the game tonight. how long does it take to get the email with the code?
Mine came in a day or two from when I registered. Be sure to check your spam/promotion tabs. Also, the email subject is something like "Thanks for your purchase of Super Smash Bros Ultimate!" and doesn't mention the Piranha Plant code.
Down-throw doesn't bury as long if the enemy isn't damaged.
The suck has less range.
And most dangerously, his up-special got nerfed in some capacity. I don't know if "reduced the range of the attack" means the chopper has a smaller hitbox, or if he flies less far. The latter would be pretty tough, particularly if you're going for spikes or suicide sucks.

Keep in mind Nintendo is one of the few companies that doesn't provide NPD with digital sales, so its sales total and ranking is likely even higher.
(FYI, the top-selling game of 2018 was Red Dead Redemption 2, followed by Call of Duty Black Ops 4, NBA 2K19, and Madden 19.)
Let's host a competitive tournament!
But not use the ruleset every other tournament uses!
Congrats. I think you guys are a bit better than me now!
Only way to test is by playing with us!

Well... we don't exactly know how the conversation over Cloud went. Certainly doesn't seem like Square Enix was crazy about it.
