Yeah, those are the actual lyrics.
Anyways, we're less than 12 hours from the release of the first new Devil May Cry game in over a decade. The game uses the REngine most recently seen in the Resdient Evil 2 Remake.
Picking up a few years after Devil May Cry 4, all hell breaks loose in Red Grave City (Redgrave being Dante's original name back when the first DMC game was going to be Resident Evil 4).
The game is full of references to past games, development history, and even some to the manga and anime. It apparently is able to stand alone if you haven't experienced those things, however. There is also a video you can launch from the main menu telling you about the past stories.
A prequel novel was released, but only in Japan. Apparently Lucia from Devil May Cry 2 even appears in that novel.
Speaking of Devil May Cry 2, they've now retconned it so that it takes place
before Devil May Cry 4. So now you just have to remember that 3 is the prequel and everything else is pretty much in order. How'd Dante get out of hell? *shrugs*
There are three playable characters in this game: Nero, Dante, and V. Nero and Dante play like expanded versions of their DMC4 selves, while V is a brand new playstyle focused on summoning minions to attack for you. Unfortunately it seems that Vergil, Trish, and Lady are not playable like they were in DMC4SE. Maybe future DLC?
The game is 20 missions like previous DMC games, and like DMC4 you use certain characters for certain missions. Unlike DMC4, you won't be backtracking to refight all the bosses as another character. In fact, in some missions (but not all) you can pick which character you want to be. These missions also feature what the devs call "asynchronous multiplayer" where whatever characters you didn't pick will be played by another player (or an AI shadow of another player if a live player is not available at the moment). There are no lobbies or anything, this happens automatically, but it will prefer picking people from your friends list over random people. The characters are not always together, as they often have their own paths through the level, but you'll see them in the distance sometime, and there are still fights that you do together.
Not confirmed, but I think they removed all the usable items like the Green Stars that you could use to heal, and the Holy Water that damaged everything on screen. Blue Orbs to extend your life meter and Purple Orbs to extend your Devil Trigger meter are still there though.
The game also introduces a Photo Mode, as well as a new Void Mode. The Void Mode is essentially a cross between the training mode of a fighting game, and the loading screens from Bayonetta. You can pick an enemy or boss and infinitely practice your combos on that specific enemy. There are also some settings for the enemy's behavior.
Bloody Palace will not be in at launch, but will be added as free DLC soon. Turbo mode is not in the game (at least not yet?) and I'm also assuming Legendary Dark Knight mode isn't in since that mode just added a metric ton of enemies, but I'd expect all the other modes from DMC4 to be in.
Don't know about alternate costumes or Super forms, but I'd expect them to be in since they don't seem to be cutting corners.
They are going to be selling packs of Red Orbs for real money, but apparently people that have already played the game say you can completely ignore that as the rate you earn them in-game is more than fast enough to get what you want. There are now Proud Souls this time, everything in-game is bought with just Red Orbs. You can even revive when you die by spending Red Orbs if you don't have any Gold Orbs.
Preordering the game before it launches tonight will net you a set of alternate colors for the main cast. If you preorder the Deluxe Edition, you'll also receive a bonus 100,000 Red Orbs.
On it's own, the Deluxe Edition offers four new Devil Breaker weapons for Nero, an alternate version of one of Dante's weapons, the ability to switch out the cutscenes with their live action mocap versions, and a bunch of music from previous DMC games to switch in for any of the character battle music.
The only complaint I've heard so far is disappointment with the game's treatment of Trish and Lady, but otherwise it's been getting high marks all around. Hopefully the Trish and Lady complaints can be amended if they get a playable DLC in the future.

I stand by my statement.

But I'm also really excited to get back to this version of everyone
Yeah but I'm thinking next year when there's another game called Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition.
Sorry, you don't get to dictate my feelings on what does and doesn't count. Did you also go into the threads for people excited about Metroid: Samus Returns & Metroid Prime 4 and tell them that they just got Other M and Federation Force?
Like the game, fine, I don't care. But I'm over here excited to finally be getting a sequel to Devil May Cry 4 and would much prefer to talk about that.
You're being shitty and it's gotten this thread off to a really ugly start.

Does show some (but not all) of the new weapons and attacks if you want to be 100% spoiler free though.

lots of demons claiming to be the lord of hell, but not capital S Satan, no
https://www.paypal.me/hobnailtaylor
in the DMC canon there was a bad demon named Mundus who was basically Satan, and his top lieutenant Sparda "woke up to justice" and kicked him and all of the demons out of the human world. Long time later, Sparta then had two kids with a human named Eva, Dante and Vergil. And since then Dante's been kicking all would be upstart demons back into hell occasionally (including Mundus himself)
Apparently at the start of the game you only have access to Human difficulty (Easy) and Devil Hunter difficulty (Normal). You have to beat Devil Hunter to unlock Son of Sparda difficulty (Hard). Then there's Dante Must Die mode (Very Hard) after SoS. Plus the bonus modes Heaven or Hell, and Hell & Hell.
There is, however, a secret that will unlock Son of Sparda difficult early and net you an achievement in the process.
(Spoiler for the Secret!)
...except it's not unwinnable. If you actually manage to beat him, the game gives you a joke ending right there and goes ahead and unlocks Son of Sparda difficulty.
I haven't gotten a clear look, but seems good but maybe not as good as RE2's hamburger.
hrm
alright, i guess

I feel like this is a good ad.

I only ever played the first 2 games. . .

Fortunately, every third demon he kills turns into a pair of metal gauntlets for him to use.
Though apparently in this game he has access to more of his old weaponry than normal.
Anyways, this unlocks on Steam for me in a little over two hours. After it validates or whatever I plan to just play it until the muscle relaxers I took for my shoulder cause me to pass out.
Happy devil hunting, all.
Of course that just means the credits rolled, not that I'm done with it.
I assumed that the new way of activating secret missions would make them very easy to find, but I only found 5 of them. Including the tutorial one.
Hopefully with the multiple characters it'll be nice and repayable
