2nd match of mythic invitational decided because they ran out of time in game 3 (gruul v RDW) due to an esper game 1 going to teferi ult. The gruul player was ahead and forced to concede about 3 turns away from an easy victory against RDW. Match decided by who had the highest life total.

Yeah, this is not going well. 1st game involving HS pro keeping a 1 lander and 2nd game decided by arbitrary tournament rules. The potential is there though. Hoping it gets better.

Thijs is very likely the least experienced person at the tournament. He was getting coaching on basic rules interactions on stream only like a week ago.

I have no idea about the PS4 but here is a link.

Autumn just got eliminated 0-2 by mtgnerdgirl. The second match was esper vs simic (green beatdown running some negates + krasis). Esper can't deal with hexproof creatures on the board well, only so many wraths. I maintain that 2 carnage tyrants and a couple of memorial to follys in sultai + krasis is heavily favored vs esper in Bo1.

The esper acuity that Deathsnow is currently piloting is looking really good. I've found various versions of the list but not sure which one to run.

Group A decklists are here: https://magic.wizards.com/en/events/mythicinvitational/groupadecks

    Break Down is...

    Jund: 1
    WW: 4
    RDW: 7
    Simic Stompy: 1
    Acuity: 3
    Temur Reclamation: 4
    Gruul: 2
    Esper: 7
    Rakdos Mid: 1
    Naya Angels: 1
    Green Stompy (w collision): 1

Really surprised to see the acuity and temur reclamation decks. Those decks are both really strong against what they target (aggro/control) and then very vulnerable to control/aggro respectively.

MTGnerdgirl just advanced on the back of simic stompy. Most of those esper lists are running only 2 wraths. There is a lot of midrange in these lists too. This is going to be good. I wanna see these hyper focused esper lists get hard punished.

    Group B lists up: https://magic.wizards.com/en/events/mythicinvitational/groupbdecks

    Selesnya: 3
    WW: 8
    Golgari Mid: 3
    Esper: 7
    Gruul: 4
    RDW: 2 +2 (spash black)
    Green Stompy (with collision/colossus): 2
    Acuity: 1

    So far no mono-u

If I remember he was on the play right?

He had over 60% chance to miss the next land drop and about a 40% chance to be stuck on 1 land for 3 turns. He had 3 1 drops and needed to flip azcanta to play the rest of his hand. That wasn't happening against his opponents decks unless he drew a land the next turn.

I dunno what his odds would be on a muligan, but I think they'd have to be better than keeping that hand.

Shahar just kept a one land hand as mono white on the play. He drew a second land on his next turn and then never again for the rest of the match.

He won the game and Jesus Christ mono white.

I only caught the tail end of that match, but I saw he was on 2 lands + fort and his opponent had 8 lands + 1 in hand.

Actually had some success in Draft for the first time!

7-1 with this?? Which didn't seem that promising at all but considering I usually manage 3 wins tops I'll take it.

Is that a bug? Lifelink should happen, but if you are at 0 or below by the time Vampire and Archer get stacked they've lost.

    So far my take aways...

    1. I'd watch all of these on twitch. This is great. I love that it's Bo1. The whole idea of this is fun.
    2. Day9 and Kibler are the best.
    3. The set is great.
    4. Seeing the streamers is great.
    5. The timer rule is asinine and will be gamed at some point and ruin a tournament.
    6. The audio and video team need to be run out with pitch forks and torches. The camera angles, the transitions, the mic feed backs, the long pauses, and worst of all the shaky cam do the rest of the production a disservice. Fire whoever is in charge and have someone in the audience film the thing on their cell phone.

Compared to watching paper magic on twitch...

The other thing I've noticed is that the pros all seem to be picking safe picks in esper and WW. But the challengers are experimenting and doing quite well. I think that Bo1 meta is really far from being solved.

Nothing is more hilarious than a RDW deck playing against esper control and getting out experiment and just top decking to victory

Oh man, Skybilz just punted hard. She shot a bolt and shock to the face on her turn while her opponent had 4 mana, an absorb, and chem insight in hand... Just an awful misplay.

I don't want to root for RDW, but I also want all the MPL players that brought esper/WW to get eliminated and some streamer running dinos to win it.

I doubt Salvato taps out for Chemister's anyways. You keep that Absorb live for as long as you can.

It is rad to see women doing well and making top 16. Almost like the thing keeping them out of competitive Magic was how aggressively unpleasant LGSs can be for them.

I definitely don't like the lack of sideboarding. Best of 1 is not nearly as interesting and it sounds like it made the esper mirrors even more horrifically boring than they normally are. The timer rule also sounds terrible.
