Also while I'm griping about them, fire Nantz and let literally anyone else do that job. Preferably Eagle or Harlan, who I think are good. Though ESPN has like a half dozen guys better than any of them for calling basketball play by play.

Oh and Nebraska fired Tim Miles for being just kind of OK record wise and utterly disorganized on offense.

I feel like Nantz and Raftery deserve each other and my mute button

Why on earth do we not have Gus Johnson anymore?!

He works for Fox. And your blasphemy against Raftery will not stand.

Raftery would be ten times the announcer he is if he did commentary while mildly inebriated. He just doesn't talk basketball, he tells you basketball. Until he decides it's time for a catch phrase.

I dunno, I've got nothing against his insights but listening to him grates

Can't believe they fired the guy who's got the most NCAA tournament wins in program history.

Well he's tied with me, but still.

Bruce Pearl is promising Auburn will run with UNC

    I am cackling with glee

That game and Michigan/Texas Tech might as well not be the same sport.

On this note, apparently the Over/Under for this game is 14 points lower than any other Sweet Sixteen game. And at 126, you should take the under.

Oregon/Virginia's O/U is listed at 119.5. It's a real shame, because Wisconsin is 3 spots lower on the tempo rankings than Oregon and a few spots higher on defense, so that game could have been even lower.

Meanwhile UNC/Auburn is 165, 16 points higher than any other Sweet 16 game. Just to really drive home the difference.

I don’t want to agree with the premise of this, because I love Raftery on commentary, but I can say from personal experience that Raftery with some alcohol in him is one of the most entertaining people I’ve ever met.

I think he used to be?

I remember, maybe a decade ago or so, he seemed a lot more loose on the mic. He still seemed too much in love with his catchphrases to me, but his commentary to catchphrase patter was much slicker than I think it's been in recent years.

Also, he just strikes me as (and this surely says something about my family) that uncle who you learn is a blast to shoot the shit with during the 2-3 beers phase, but anything outside of that range is a total no-go

Yeah, CBS sent him to the top spot way too late because they loved Billy goddamn Packer. He's not as great as he used to be (and him and Uncle Verne were amazing together) but he's still way more entertaining to listen to than 90% of announcers because he loves the game so much.

EDIT: I think other than Doris Burke, there's still no one I'd rather have doing color of a basketball game I was watching.

Came down over a player closer to the rim. That is a foul 100% of the time if you jump.

Cline is out though and he was the shooter that kept them in this.
