They’re pictures that move, so we call them [movies]
Shazam fuckin ruled and is the best DC movie ever made
Right?
I had some soul-searching on my way out, thinking okay, DCEU definitely... Nolan, Phantasm and Lego Batman? Am I still gonna think that tomorrow?
Pretty sure I still think that.
Yeah it has some stiff competition but I've had a day to think about it and it is just as good as when I walked out and don't really have any complaints at all

I saw the new Pet Sematary yesterday
It sure was...a film?
Usually I leave the theater knowing what to think about what I just watched, like I definitely enjoy or definitely hate something. That wasn't the case here at all! So,
Creepier than the original
Nowhere near as fun/entertaining as the original's sequel
More depressing than the book
Slightly less interesting dad star than the original
Worse old man than the original
Better kid actors than the original
Much better mom than the original, Amy Seimetz did a good job
Uglier cat
Trailers seemed to spoil both Too Much (Ellie dying this time instead of Gage was legit surprising and I wish I first experienced that in the theater) and Not Enough (it was So Cool seeing the John Lithgow old man ankle slice scene get a fakeout in the place it originally happened in the first film, I liked little touches like that)
There's at least one con for every pro I have about the 2018 Pet Sematary and the only thing I really feel confident in is it feels like a rental at best? Some of the changes made from the original film were definitely for the best, and even managed to surprise, but it just felt...blandly executed?
I’m on a Mike Leigh kick and just saw Another Year for the first time. I prefer the look of his earlier stuff, but all the beautiful character work is as strong as ever. I think Jim Broadbent is in the running for my favourite actor. Everyone else was excellent as well. Leigh just always gets great performances.
This trailer cheese it up a bit more than the movie itself, but hey, what are trailers for.
It's hard to say, but I suspect there may be some very slight tonal differences between these films.

Oh, also, yes, Shazam was fucking great.
Like, easily the best DCEU movie ever. It was incredibly sweet, genuinely funny, and the story actually went places. It would have been super easy for a film like this to swing hard into the DC GRIMDARK side of things, or stay way over in the g-rated goofball low-stakes side, but it walked a really nice line between them. And it had a really great final act climax super hero fight.
I should definitely watch Shazam. But, and this is very petty, the colour palette in the trailer is real ugly. The tone of it and the look of it just aren’t meshing for me.
But that’s true of a lot of movies, and this one at least seems like a good, fun time.

I still definitely like Wonder Woman over Shazam, although Shazam doesn’t feel like the studio fucked with it in the same way.
I would be hard pressed to point out a truly weak part in Shazam, unlike Wonder Woman.
But yeah, while I think WW might have had a couple of better highs, Shazam was way more consistent, both in quality and in tonality. And the pacing was great. It definitely didn't feel like a 130+ minute movie.

I would argue that WW is way more totally consistent, which, as I addressed earlier I think was intentional on Shazam’s part but didn’t really work for me.
This has more to do with my personal film preferences than actual skill of craft. I did ‘t Really click with anything emotional on the film until the very end, where as Wonder Woman had me at No Man’s Land and didn’t let go till the credits rolled. Say what you want about craft, I’m already struggling to remember most of Shazam but I won’t forget any of Wonder Woman’s emotional beats.
I might go back and watch Shazam again, mebbe, but I was down to see WW the very next day.
I was only 10 when Batman came out, and I was confused by Dent being black. I wasn’t mad, and I didn’t say “no, he can’t be black!” but I was surprised by how they got it “wrong.” Of course, I was surprised by a lot of the choices they made for that movie. It’s hard to focus too much on the race of one character who barely appears when *waves hands* all of that was going on.

That's a common complaint about Philly, yeah.
“Take the shot, Stu!”
“Just defeat him!”
“Stu, take the shot!”
*physical comedy gold ensues*

this is a bold statement to make in a world where batman returns exists

How dare you.
It's fully of them
Now how about a kiss for santy claws
Hey.
I fuckin love this.
I guess the atmosphere is alright.
Hm you know how Tim Burton doesn't think black people belong in his film? I wonder if the Harvey Dent casting was forced upon him or something.

the like ten minute sequence of Michelle pfiefer trashing her apartment is pretty amazing
They dont do stuff like that any more
Billy Dee Williams as Harvey Dent was his idea and Warner forced him to recast because they thought “people weren’t ready for a black Two Face”
