Opie & Anthony suspended on XM Satellite radio.
I find this amusing, since the move to satellite was supposed to eliminate these kinds of problems.
Some choice quotes:
Greg "Opie" Hughes and Anthony Cumia first raised the ire of listeners when they broadcast May 9 the rantings of a character they call Homeless Charlie, who fantasized about having violent sex with Laura Bush, Condoleezza Rice and Queen Elizabeth II.
They apologized two days later, but on Monday they called on their competitors -- most notably, Howard Stern -- to join them in defense of the right of shock jocks everywhere to be, well, shocking.
"Are you with us or against us?" they asked, referencing such recently fired radio talkers as Don Imus and "JV and Elvis." Then they told listeners that while they didn't have the FCC restricting their language, they still must follow XM's "dumb rules." That apparently was too much for XM to take.
The pair's Homeless Charlie bit came at a particularly thorny time as XM is trying to get permission to merge with Sirius Satellite Radio. Some on Wall Street predicted last week that XM eventually would have to punish Opie & Anthony if for no other reason than to curry favor among lawmakers, who are deciding whether to give the proposed merger the thumbs up.
Moral of the story: It doesn't matter where you go, your boss is still a wuss subject to the whims of the asses (s)he kissed to get where (s)he is now. Hooray!
Shock jocks. This isn't so much about them as it is "hey shock jocks moved to satellite radio to avoid being censored but it's happening anyway, go figure".
Here's the thing, just like Imus, no one would know who the fuck these people are unless a few pussy watchdogs decided to get offended and wrote a letter.
No one cares.
No one knows who these people are. The only reason I know anything about these useless people is because someone who didn't like them complained.

mass broadcasting is a business
businesses only exist as a vehicle to make money
having dudes who offend the shit out of a bunch of people is not a good way to make money
this isn't fucking brain surgery
if opie and anthony and howard stern want to say swears on the air, then there's nothing stopping from buying and running their own satellite radio station. they totally have the right to do that
if opie and anthony were howard stern they would not be suspended right now
i'm pretty sure that at this point howard stern could forge ahead on his own, while they could not. also howard has made his satellite radio of choice a tremendous amount of money.
i guess basically what i'm saying is nobody likes opie and anthony
this is a dumb precedent, though, as the whole point of this paid system of broadcasting is to be free of censorship

i'm just sayin
if these guys owned their own satellite station and got shut down then yeah this'd be an issue of rights and free speech and whatever
but the people who own the equipment have the right to regulate it's usage, and if they don't want homeless people talking about boning politicians, then that is their prerogative

the whole point was to start a business that will make money
yes that's the point of every business
but when your business is to do the same thing as something that is already free, you generally need to have some sort of angle to distinguish yourself

in fact i would say that a broader content range with more genre specific channels and no advertisements is what is getting folks to do satellite radio instead of am/fm
i think shock radio is dumb but my understanding is that there was a pretty sharp rise in sirius's number of subscribers when they picked up howard stern
there is a massive contingent of people who do like it and ignoring them is poor business. reprimand or whatever to maintain face to the wacky people who actually give a shit about what a pair of shock jocks on satellite radio says, but suspending them sets a really poor precedent in my mind.
but man considering i don't like shock jocks and i think satellite radio is the most worthless thing ever i'm done talking about them.

jeapordizing a merge with sirius because of a couple of idiot clowns is about the poorest business there is
Knob's hit the nail on the head people. Just because you have the right to say something doesn't obligate someone to pay you to say it. Not paying you to speak your mind is not equivalent to restricting your right to speech.

Vaguely recall hearing of them, but never heard them. I guess they talk.

It's spelled Antony.
Also, I am failing to care because, as was said, dudes going HOLY SHIT LOOK AT HER TITS over the radio is pretty much the most boring thing ever.
But man she is totally naked in that sound booth
IT IS THE THOUGHT POLICE
yeah, but howard stern is dumb on TV as well
OH SHIT, REALLY?
also, Howard Stern is dumb no matter how you slice it.
they were pretty unfunny then so i assume nothing has changed

Great strategy, asshole.
Try praying to him next time you're at a red light. It will change for you.
Sometimes you gotta make an offering, though.
I usually say I will eat a sandwich in his honor.

if you are working for a company and the company says, 'hey can you please not say swears to our customers'
and a customer comes in and you say, 'hey fuckdick can i interest you in some mothercunting pots and pans'
you are probably going to get fired
