I have lost 100% of the games I have played this evening, and only one of them was to a deck that actually led to an interactive game. I did, however, complete 2 dailies.
Someone please tell me I did not waste my time and frustrate myself for nothing tonight.
i mean, you completed dailies to it's not a complete loss.
That said, if you're getting frustrated playing this game day-in day-out, i'd suggest you take a break from it? That's what i did last year, basically stopped playing between mid-WAR to Eldraine starting and.... it helped a lot.

2 dailies = level up. Some days that's all I care about, especially if I've already hit my 15 wins for the week.
I took a break when I stopped enjoying myself. I'm just starting up again and it's much more enjoyable now.
One of the things that annoyed me was the battle pass. The feeling that you have to play every day to be able to max it out felt a bit stressful. So this time around I haven't bought it. I wish they'd change it so you could grind it out whenever you felt like it.

IDK for the Core 2020 pass but the Eldraine pass i got to the end of it about a week or so before it ended and took a short break.
EDIT: And Theros seems to have 10 or 20 less levels before maxing out.

You only "have" to play once every three days, to clear out 500xp dailies. You should be able to rack up 15 wins playing 1-2 times a week, presumably.
The daily bonuses* are trash (25 xp per win up to some limit I've never cared about); 10 daily wins is 1 weekly win's worth of xp or 1/2 a daily quest's.
You absolutley do not have to grind every day to max out the pass.
*Only considering the Battle Pass xp. The extra gold/ICRs is fine but still not essential.
EDIT: Eldraine had more levels because there was more time between releases.

Yea I have maxed out each battle pass so far with multiple levels to spare and I do not play even close to every day. I only play a couple days per week for a small amount of hours.
Surprisingly managed either 5 wins with a weird WU enchantment deck that splashed G for Iroan Games and Eutropia. I had a chance at a second Eutropia during draft and didn't grab it. No idea if that was the right move.
I tried to build around a Protean, but only had one and only resolved him 2 or 3 times.
It was still decent fun
And I *guess* they are shutting off ranked draft to try to entice people to play using the Worlds decks?
The battle pass feels stressful for me. If I could grind out the Theros one I might buy it, but I feel like I've lost too much XP already that I won't be able to max it out.

You don't need to max it for it to be worthwhile. Obviously if you won't get past the point of breaking even by playing normally then you should skip that particular one. And if just having it stresses you out in some way then also yea.. probably not for you.
But neither of those is an issue with the pass.

I threw together an Esper enchantments/control deck... after a couple matches in the free play queue, I have no idea if it's any good or not, I just know that Esper mirrors involve Elspeth Conquers Death hitting Elspeth Conquers Deaths over and over and over

Yeah, as it is, it's not for me. When I buy a battle pass in a game, I want to be able to max it out. I didn't play during the start of Theros, so I'm only level 11 now and I don't think I'll be able to get to 100. I also have 3 weeks vacation coming up where I won't be able to play.

Yeah, nah.
The whole card treadmill is a terrible business model to pursue, and the stress is a deliberately manufactured issue with the pass/dailies/card rotation.

I mean I click a button, play the game I would normally play and extra fun rewards come out.
All pretty positive experience that costs $0.
Hard for me to find a complaint. But again, if it causes someone stress then yea avoid it.
Pretty straightforward.
Does thing cause enough benefit for you to outweight whatever cost it has? > Get it!
Yea if you have issues with that sort of stuff you probably shouldn't be playing f2p games.
If you feel obligated to play a game... stop playing that game.
Once again, fairly straightforward.

It's definitely a business model aimed at exploiting anxieties/FOMO, and generating endorphins and other good brain juice on the flip side, but compared to *waves hands generally at all of capitalism* it's not really that bad. Discussions and studies on how that stuff is exploitative tends to ignore the effects of pre-existing anxieties on our vulnerability to being exploited.
I made the mistake of buying into the WAR Mastery pass when I was deep into FFXIV and leaving the country for three weeks in the middle of it, which ended up generating a lot of anxiety and I did a lot of dailies/fifteen wins while alt-tabbing between Magic and XIV, which was not ideal. I avoided the Eldraine pass until I realized I was easily gonna 90+ it because of how long it lasted. I haven't bought the Theros pass and I'm guessing that won't change, but who knows.
There is a fuzzy line between giving people what they want and tapping into their lizard brains. The mastery pass is a pretty good deal for a ccg. Even if you compulsively need to be able to play every meta deck at all times, a mastery pass and completing your daily quests will get you there.
I'm less happy about the gold sinks that only serve to keep me from playing the weekend events. I'm not going to spend 5-10k gold on your weekend events. I will just spend that gold on packs instead and spend less money.
I mean, it's not like Arena isn't also showing me the folly of playing more than I want (to get out of Gold 1 into Plat), by crashing out of and not letting me back into the game I was winning.

This is true. It's just that first-win 250 looks so tempting...
by my rough calcs from what i can see, playing once every 3 days for 3 quests and 15 weekly wins, plus the little 25 for wins gets you to 90k exp in the mastery pass in 12weeks or 26 play sessions. even if you don't do all that the free theros packs run out 12k before that anyway.

I tend to only play when I have quests for that reason- so no, you did not waste your time.
hey you can play those world championship decks an infinite amount of times, good for getting your dailies
Playing those decks in Bo1 is kind of weird. They don't feel "competitive" when the Teferi I played shuts down the reclamation deck or they have no answer to the creatures that I played.
So as I've never played a standard format/dealt with rotation, advice pls. I have like... 7 rare/4 mythic WCs. I have a reasonable budget B/W lifegain deck that's got me into gold, and I feel like it's topping out there for the moment, which is fine, honestly.
Would you suggest spending a few of the WCs improving on the thing I has, or spending more of them on making something new, risking that those spends (non-B/W shocklands, rare Chandras, Cavalcade, what have you) will rotate out sooner than later? I realise none of this happens until like, fall, but I'm assuming nobody's going to be dumping a bucket of rares on my head any time soon, right? I'd do the lands right the hell now if I thought they'd stay in standard for sure, though.
Jesus christ fucking hell, if anyone wants some easy wins, I recommend Mengucci's RDW. I now know why it's called RDW. This is ridiculous.
Edit: In the event I mean. I believe I can't even consider crafting this damn thing...

Nothing quite like watching your opponent tap nine mana to try and cast Gadwick the Wizened.

I've no idea what to do with the fires decks against control, like, t4 fires, counter, ok gg. Hope to get the 3/1 flier out instead and they have no answers for 7 turns? I dislike bo1 all round really.
