[Rick & Morty] Justin Roiland Versus Season Seven (Oct. 15th 2023)
It feels like they don't know where to take character development so they're doing these bit episodes.
Not saying they aren't entertaining but I kinda wanna see some actual stuff happen.
tip.. tip.. TALLY.. HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Honestly, while I really liked the episode, I'm kind've sorry we learned the origins of space-snake. Going by the trailer alone, the idea that there were just snakes in space-suits slithering around in space biting people, with no further explanation, was really funny to me.
1. I'm struggling to remember whether or not Jerry has committed mass murder/manslaughter before. Because he sure seems responsible for killing everyone on that plane.
2. SssssSsssssSSSSS? SSssssSSSS! SSSSSS! SsSsSssS.
3. Testicle Time Cops are back! I never thought we'd see them again.
4. Plumbus advert is playing on the TV whilst Rick takes a drunken nap on the Sofa.
5. Mutant clone Jerry probably suffered greatly during his minute-long moment of terrifying existence. Every time Rick does biology a new crime against nature ends up being created...
Its fine the cause of the crash never happened

All 200 passengers jumped out of the flaming plane with parachutes off-camera.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
The pilots were surfing a cool buzz of Molly.
The iron-lizard couldn't deal with a flimsy kick.
I mean Jerry was sort of involved but if your system can't handle a Jerry then you deserve all the failure you get.

Honestly, I think we need more one-off adventures that are just Rick and Morty doing their thing so there is a status quo to disrupt.
One snake thumb way way up for that episode. Lots of fun.

The dedication to the snake dialogue bits was the highlight of the episode
Thoughts at the halfway point of the season:
The season is really good conceptually in individual doses, but the show has steered hard away from character growth and the connective tissues that ran through the past episodes and seasons, which was one of the things I liked most about the show. The undercurrent of domestic unrest propelled so many B and C plots, and when that wasn’t happening, you had episodes dealing directly with the characters’ personal problems. Those new season seems really untethered and aimless, albeit still very fun and funny, but missing the poignancy and pathos that gave earlier material balance.
For me the standout moment of the episode was seeing Time Travel from the other perspective where Rick just stands still for a moment "committing" to inventing Time Travel at a later date and then suddenly he and Morty from the future show up with what they need.
Which of course, made the ending and the post credits scene even better.

That was how Stephen Hawking proved time travel was bullshit. Because no one showed up to the party he held for time travellers, and who wouldn't wanna Hang With The Hawk?

I really appreciate the Bill and Ted time travel rules being used.

It's such a simple, dumb joke but snake jazz really got a laugh outta me.
And the episode was even funnier for me because my girlfriend really hates snakes. At first everytime they showed snakes they looked away. When we got to the whole snake story in the middle of the episode she just kept eating her food while looking down. I started describing to her what was happening on snake world by saying guy instead of snake.
After that she managed to get through the rest of the episode without looking away from the snakes much. Except when there were snake bites.

Also there's the bonus of Rick calling out racism as a reason snakes were never going to progress.
Really feels like they instituted a new rule with this season. That every episode has tell "that section" of the fan base to go the fuck away at least once.

I liked how Future Rick and Morty were such huge assholes to Past Rick and Morty.

Only downside is that they'll have to make that stuff really really blatant if they want that asshole group of viewers to get it through their thick skulls that they are the problem being talked about. These are people with some mighty powers of selective hearing and memory.
Besides this episode being fucking hilarious, the use of tropes, memes, and references to stand in as spoken dialogue in those snake scenes worked utterly flawlessly. What a fantastically executed idea.

I just laughed at so many points during the episode.

It's not time travel, it's SNAKE time travel. Rick is pretty explicit that it's a different thing.
"How you gonna move time while you're standing in it, you dumbass three dimensional monkey-ass dummies?"

Everything about the snakes was great and it got even better when they all started time traveling.
Exactly. It involves Snake Math and everything.
Clearly not something that just translates over easily, if at all.
Or they just gave themselves a past reference ‘out’ if they ever decide to lean into it in the future.
I'm actually super happy about all of the characters, too.

My girlfriend had to come check on me as i was in hysterics at that bit and the Kyle Reese snake.
Sadly warranted, I feel.
I wish more things did this, honestly.
Like... he was just minding his own business and that snake nearly killed him.
Fuck those snakes.
To be fair.... Past Rick makes Future rick learn snake math & past Morty makes Future Morty sew giant snake suits.
I would be pissed too
I prefer flawed but innocent moral compass Morty over Gen X Morty.
