I've been to a haunted house that used a version of that gag, only it was an 8-foot-tall Frankenstein's monster who broke free by separating from it's head and lunging for us. We were all SUPER IMPRESSED. Nobody saw it coming.
also I imagine once you've been out in that kind of weather and come back in one piece enough times you get a feel for the difference between "rough and annoying" and "shit this might actually kill us"
How do people stop feeling fear of the boat capsizing...
theres always a small fear, but you gotta accept that ships are made explicitly to not capsize even in generally rough conditions
unless you're an idiot and take a vessel not rated to be in rough seas out into rough seas OR you get real unlucky
My dad, who was an Alaskan crab boat captain for like 25 years, says that 80%+ (he suspects 100%) of fishing ships that have capsized have done so due to company negligence in overloading ships. And to his knowledge, not a single one was ever litigated against.
