Gotta throw out a recommendation for Sayonara Wild Hearts

It's a "video game pop album" with pretty simplistic score-based gameplay almost kind of like the first level of sonic adventure 2, and is essentially a series of playable music videos

    It rules

    GRIS!

I've loved what I've seen of it in trailers and videos but you've just sold it even more by comparing it to City Escape which I loved and played over and over and why isn't there just an entire game of that or an entire genre

it deviates from that gameplay a bit and has some other wrinkles to it, but that's definitely the core of the thing

Beat King of Cards. That was a lot! As long as Plague Knight and Specter Knight's campaigns combined. Highlights:

King Knight getting very upset at his mom flirting with King Pridemoor.

"Ain't no rule that says a dog can't play Joustus"

That one npc that just fucking kills you.

Which npc? I got to the final boss but didn't beat it.

I really liked this one. I started Plague Knight again and couldn't get past the first level. Spectre of Torment seems better, but I like King of Cards most

I gave him the yellow/purple armor so I could pretend it's a Wario game

After you recruit Mr. Hat go back to the area where his shop used to be to meet the npc.
If you have the healing decree active you can actually survive the death for an interesting secret.

Huh, yeah now that I think about it King Knight's main attack being a shoulder dash probably is a Wario reference.

    I finished AI: Somnium Files.

Those end credits were awesome. And by awesome I do also mean cringeworthy and ridiculous, but I definitely did smile.

The voice acting was stellar, especially towards the end when various actors had to act out various parts.

Also that was a very likable cast!

I was hoping you’d @ me when you got there. The credits just made me cringe for several minutes.

    It was a solid game.

One of these days yacht club needs to make an actual sequel and get paid. Of course, I've bought shovel Knight across multiple platforms, but their commitment to new content has been amazing.

Also I neeeeed a sequel to Yoko's Island Express.

Spirit tracks is great. You have a dedicated rope on the side of the screen just for blowing the steam whistle whenever you want. No game can have that and also be bad.

    SO BAD.

if you're hunting for another VN, I enjoyed Crystaline a solid amount. It's 98% words 2% gameplay, but I did enjoy the story it told enough to finish it, which says something.

I'm about halfway through the third zone in king of cards, overall I like it a lot so far even though I'll occasionally just forget how the movement works and die a bunch for no reason

I really wish it was more generous with checkpoints though

I get it would probably make it too easy and once you've mastered a room it takes almost zero time to get back to where you were but I still hate having to repeat the same rooms over and over, even if I know how to do them they aren't always easy and its still possible to die and lose all that money I dropped if I'm not paying total attention

Joustus is neat but I don't really like it and have stopped trying to actually master it

I still go up against every character until I beat them but I can't keep the entire board (including my hand and my opponents hand) in my head and occasionally the differently shaped/randomized boards just don't work for whatever cards I have jammed in my deck

So most of the time I spend the first couple turns shrugging and going "this card maybe??" and just jamming one down and then I get lucky and can lock the board up or I don't and its already unwinnable

Which is probably mostly on me (though not being able to see each board and edit your deck before each game is dumb) but joustus isn't what I'm here for, I just play it for the merit medals so my mom will bake me delicious pies

I'd like to play Joustus with a human opponent, that way it's more "oh shit, I didn't think of that" instead of a computer that makes the best move every time

Picked up Final Fantasy 12 on Switch. I'm enjoying it now but those first few hours before you get a full party were rough. I think about how a lot of Final Fantasies start off their games with big exciting set-pieces to make up for the fact that you don't have much mechanical complexity at the beginning, and Final Fantasy 12 just... doesn't.

It's not, but it's better than all that extra intro crap with Vaan.

I'm so glad I popped in here and saw this, I was worried Cadence would be a 1 and done, unlike the massive support of the original!

... Also Nintendo sent me a rundown of things on sale on my wish list, and I am so unbelievably tempted by so many half-off games. I'm looking at you, Mega Man X collections and Phoenix Wright trilogy... (all games I already own, sigh.)

Yoko's Island Express is always my go-to Switch game when I ask people to play indies on it.

I also greatly enjoyed the Blaster Master Zero games.

Oh! And Minit's a trip. And Downwell, though it's not so indie anymore because the guy who made it got hired by Nintendo.

I don't think the creator of an indie thing being hired by a large company retroactively makes that thing not indie, unless the company also takes over the thing.
