"We considered ourselves to be a powerful culture" is such a weird brag and/or wistful regret to immortalize in this practical message.

One Eyed Jack shares his eye with the two other Jacks and collectively they govern fate. The Jack we see here sees the past.

Oh I didn't realize that message was connected to the pictorial warnings that had been researched. I skimmed it and that Wikipedia page looked different than whatever page/article I had in my memory from reading in the past about that (perhaps the same?) research so I thought they were unrelated. For some reason I thought I remember seeing actual pictograms before.

i like when a show is british and there are american characters played by british actors and their accents are just almost there but clearly not

which i'm sure works the other way around too except we're probably way worse at pretending to be english

    Allegedly a voice of reason.

I mean, let's be clear; these researchers were 100% motivated by the idea that they would get to create the premise to a real-life far-future scifi novel.

I'm not too concerned with nuclear waste, if we're so fucked 10,000 years from now they can't figure out any of the existing languages, we've failed at everything else

but everyone hates nuclear mostly due to ignorance so *grumble grumble*

I believe the intended takeaway is something to the effect of "You might think you're hot shit and can handle whatever this is, but so did we, and we couldn't, so don't fuck around with this out of hubris."

We're pretty much guaranteeing that bathing in our nuclear waste will become some future culture's coming of age hazing ritual.

Yesterday was my 5th dental filling in 5 weeks.

    Yeah.

It's been quite a few weeks for my teeth.

The first one five weeks ago was the big one that may have needed a root canal. Looks like it won't, but it's taking a long time to heal. Still can't chew with that side of my mouth for anything crunchy, still slightly sensitive to cold. Although for the first 2 weeks, it was so sensitive, room temperature tap water was agony. Now I can drink tapwater without having to heat it up first. I guess that tooth was very nearly a goner.

Two more big fillings and two small fillings later, and now I have trouble chewing with both sides. :P So I'm in bit of discomfort here. But it's not too bad. And the latest filling should heal quickly.

I made pho last night with sliced pork. I get boneless pork chops for my pho. I guess there was a bit of bone left in one of them because I found it the hard way and boy did that smart.

I know I'm... four goddamn years late but holy shit do I love James Supercave, been listening to the Better Strange album for hours now

when this came on I had to stop what I was doing and rewind and pay attention to the lyrics because damn there was a lot more acid in those than the sound sounded like at first

the annotations here might help if the names don't ring a bell.

saying I love you just after cocking the gun is good, but how could the woman land on the hotel when it isn't her turn until the next panel, unless the woman is now saying it to the man in the "first" panel, but there is then a discontinuity where no money has been exchanged between landing on the hotel and the change in turn

but this also implies that the woman has been thinking about killing the man for awhile now and wasn't prompted by having to pay the man rent and that is marginally darker so I like that quite a bit

To be fair, for someone your age that sentence fits about 90% of cases where someone describes the use of a tool or machine.
