I'm getting my create a "travel guide app" or "illustrated cookbook" itch again. I can't tell if it's because my life has slowed down a bit or I'm depressed or anxious or what.
at that point i had basically run out of things in the environment that were recognizably references as opposed to seeing something and going that's a reference to something but i don't know what
i assume the hand is one but i associate that with a buffy the vampire slayer episode not, presumably, some horror movie
whenever I'm reviewing a paper the first time I read it my notes are all "WHAT DOES THIS MEAN" and "UNCLEAR??" and "THIS IS WRONG" and then when I go to do a second read before typing up notes for the authors I'm like "oh actually no, that was all explained and moderately well justified, i reluctantly grant your premise and conclusions"
so my current theory is that reviewer 2 phenomenon is mostly people who only ever read things once

What if OneDrive synced a 2mb pdf in under ten minutes :tell_me_more:
microsoft's one drive servers are connected to the internet via 56k modem, so in theory it should sync in about 5 minutes but bill gates mom keeps picking up the phone and interrupting the copies

Tried again, got to 53. Googled the answers out of curiosity and
I knew that The Good The Bad and the Ugly was a thing, but the game kept saying I'd already entered it when the wanted poster wasn't updated and then I found out it was looking for just "Good Bad Ugly" and that was frustrating.
"The Good The Bad The Ugly" pings as Willy Wonka. Huh.

I'm not sure where to really rant right now since I've been wound up to all hell but like, 2020 has been just the most absolute piece of shit year so far not even including the coronavirus
(shitty life stuff)
Halfway through February we lost Wriggly and it was the most gut-ripping-out pain I've felt in my whole goddamned life
I've lost family, I've lost pets, but Wriggly was the hardest loss I've ever had - my favourite cat, and taken so suddenly
We took him in for a routine teeth-cleaning procedure and he had developed a heart murmur and didn't wake up
We were put out $2000 in combined costs between the actual procedure itself and his end-of-life costs
I've got so much I could say about it but to boil it all down, fuck 2020, if 2020 were a person like the personified old man and baby years I'd go to strangle 2020 in the crib
Love you, buddy

I played that movie garage game for a minute but I was getting annoyed by the excruciatingly slow animations and the barrage of popups showing me the dumb features of the game so I closed it.

We're doing better but it still comes in the odd wave
Ironically only now do I have a solid idea for a tattoo now that the service isn't really available, but oh well, someday
Got my bike fixed and tuned up after I blew a particularly nasty flat on the road, dropped some coin on a new pannier bag when I picked it up
It feels like... an RE4 attache case upgrade, but on steroids
So it occurs to me that the new little guy we adopted is in this photo, investigating my bicycle, so it would be remiss of me to post without showing more of him
This is Bumble
We got him quite soon from a local animal shelter after Wriggly passed since we wanted to make sure Bongo still had a companion
The covid situation here has ramped up considerably, obviously but in light of that it feels like perfect timing that we adopted him
He's quite skinny and you can still feel his ribs but he's incredibly youthful and energetic despite his age estimated at three years
He needs fattening up but he's very sociable and affectionate

Hello fellow weird sleepers.
Do you sleep odd hours? Do you struggle to sleep well, and do you feel fatigued during the day? Getting more exercise and cutting caffeine and alcohol can significantly improve quality of sleep--but fuck that, right guys? I'm here with the good news that there are alternatives!
I've started using a sleeping mask, and wow, it's shockingly effective. I definitely wake up fewer times a night and feel better in the morning. It's especially noticeable when you're in a bedroom that isn't that dark. I always associated them with, like, effeminate women in old timey movies, who would be going to their four poster canopy bed with their hair did and a frilled, lacy sleeping mask. But it turns out those ladies were onto something.
Well, not the hair done up in bed part. Whatever, you get it.

I've been having some sleep problems lately from just all the ambient stress I have to deal with in this new world we're living in, mostly manifested as the following: going directly from being awake to a dream state(yay nightmares), waking up while still in a deep cycle(yay being dead tired all day), or just skimming and basically spending half the night half awake(I can work with this).
I bought new pillows on the way home from work today, hoping that will at least help a bit.

i picked up my book of lovecraft stories because i was curious about how he handled a certain topic
i didn't hate the stories i re-read so i decided to read "The Whisperer in the Darkness" for fun, which I had not read
I've bounced hard off of Lovecraft in the past but found this go a little more enjoyable. I still think he can't write dialogue for shit, but a couple of things stuck out to me this time that, I think, I had maybe missed prior.
Most of his human protagonists are very capable recorders of their observations. They write letters, publish newspaper articles, record sounds with wax cylinders. This is, no doubt, due to him being an avid letterist but it also helps, I think, with one of my biggest complaints about him prior: his inability to describe the monster. I still think it is, perhaps, overdone in the number of times he uses it but it feels less like a copout in this context - these are people who have dedicated their lives to learning, to documenting and now they are witnessing something which their faculties cannot process.
I do also enjoy that his horror is among the first to provide a vision that is not anchored in some kind judeo-christian context. These are not demons, they are not stories about good and evil a biblical sense, there are no morals to be had.
I might actually finish this volume and pick up the others as it finally clicked.
i got very little done this week and i feel bad about it
part of the issue is that no one else seems to be doing much either, but also it's hard to know how hard people are working
As an attorney working now from home I still have to bill my time. I'm so envious of people who have those jobs where they can get their daily work done in 3-4 hours and can now chill the rest. I have to account for every 6 minutes of my day for around 8 hours.
Guess that's just my lazy streak coming out in a big way.
I just sorta accepted that my billables are going to drop off a cliff for a while (and by will drop, I mean have already dropped). Luckily I"m at a small firm, so even though my billables are more important to the company health, since everyone really matters, I'm almost safer because there's no universe where they'd consider dropping a revenue generator. I guess what I'm saying is, I doubt they'll fire you for low billables in these conditions, so just take it easy. You have a ready-made excuse for why hours sucked.
