My problem with Gawker outing Thiel is, how long before they (or someone following in their example) decided someone who was probably okay was actually an asshole by their metrics and deserved to be outed too?
"It's okay to out people if they're shitty" leaves you real open to people having a different view of what qualifies as shitty.
So maybe just don't do it ever.
And, similarly, Hulk Hogan being kind of a crap person does not make it okay to post revenge porn of him. I do not think it is possible to say it's sometimes okay to out people, and sometimes okay to use revenge porn, but only if those people are bad, without it eventually blowing up in your face because someone has a more generous idea of what constitutes "bad."

Everyone involved in the Gawker lawsuit is a piece of shit
Hulk Hogan's a racist, Peter Thiel is a piece of shit, and the people who cared more about clicks and controversy than anything else were bad journalists
They should all be put into catapults and shot into the ocean

You've changed my mind on an opinion I've held for a long time without thinking about it very much, and you did it by being cogent and noncombative.
I feel like this is something that doesn't happen enough on the internet, and I appreciate it a great deal.
And Gawker was doing the exact same stuff to people who weren't billionaires/millionaires. They just picked a bad target who was able to hit them back. A real "let them fight" moment. It's a shame it didn't end in mutual bankruptcy, but I'll take what victories I can get.
The thing is, people only ever talk about what they did to Peter Thiel. And if you want to debate doing things to Peter Thiel, you're gonna get my opinion about doing things to Peter Thiel.
In many ways, the fact that people only ever talk about what they did to Peter Thiel is the problem. He's so wealthy and powerful that he has the privilege of the entire conversation being about him. He's the one that people carry water for. Not other people.

I literally posted an article about them posting a video of a girl being raped that they refused to take down.

Thiel is consistently referenced because he’s the one that’s cited as killing gawker. Because they outed him
Yes, because he's an incredibly powerful, insulated, and well-defended man, and now everyone talks about Him and what is moral to do to Him. That's my point there. My entire stance here is about the power differentials involved. I don't care about Thiel being outed because nothing bad can happen to him, and he actively tries to hurt people who are less powerful than him, people like me and other queer people who are victimized by powerful institutions. That's why I'm mad here, that's why I'm saying fuck that guy, he deserves what he gets. I am punching up in impotent anger. And to have people abstractly say "yeah but they do other bad stuff to people who aren't powerful like that", but to not name them, to not know them, to only argue about the powerful fighting with the powerful, only feeds that anger.
And on top of that, I'm annoyed that people have to pull out their axes and go DID YOU REMEMBER GAWKER? DID YOU REMEMBER PETER THIEL? while we're lamenting the losses of sites with strong minority voices like Kotaku and Deadspin and these good places that were able to live in spite of Gawker's foundation. Jason Schrier's lucky, he's a nice safe white guy. Do you think Heather Alexandra is gonna have that luck?

I hope so! I dearly love her longform writing (especially on the MGS series), and it stacks up very well with erstwhile authors on the site like Jason, Cecilia, and Gita.
I'm having a lot of trouble creating paths into (and, more importantly, out of) the cave systems. 'Researched' the alignment tool for the vacuum, and that's a little better at creating steps, but it's still really imprecise.

Is there a trick to this that I'm missing?
If you hold ctrl the terrain tool will bet set to flatten/smooth, which will make it align itself to the angle the reticle is currently on. So you dig a small hole then use flatten to fill out a ramp at the desired angle.
seems neat, but goddamn, you're really gonna make me go through the tutorial before I can actually play the game? This boss is really difficult, Stoneshard!
It's tough to give general advice as your tactics and economy will change depending on your faction.
I'm pretty new too, the two big things I'm working on are:
Actually moving during the battle and not just setting up and letting the computer charge me. At the moment I'm playing high elves, and my current tactic is mostly ranged with a few melee units to tie down the enemy. So even though I'm playing a very defensive style, I'm still being aggressive when it comes to counter charging the enemy, as it gives me more time to unload my archers and artillery on the enemy.
Spreading my troops out. It makes sense to bunch the troops up with no gaps in your lines, but you'll do far better to spread your troops out. That way you'll retain more control over your troops. If you clump up then you'll take more ranged/magic damage, and one enemy unit can tie down two or three of yours. Which sounds good, 3 of ours vs 1 of theirs, but its not. Its far better is to have your troops spread out, one unit take the charge, and the other two to manoeuver around and flank the enemy unit. Or maybe one flanks and the other leaves to go rescue your archers. If your units are bogged down in a big clusterfuck of a combat you have very little control on the outcome of the fight.
I enjoy Zerkovich's Noob Mistakes series, which is multiplayer focused, and a very different beast to singleplayer, but its good stuff to learn. It's also more focused towards new players who know the game but have settled into bad habits. So it may not be helpful to a total newbie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SRiUV3_lpg&list=PLfHby7DEo3iHgVag8Ck9FeCqxKSLLpZcz
Legend of Total War doesn't have much in the way of tutorials, but his series where he saves other players' disaster campaigns offers good examples of some cheesy tactics you can use in the single player campaign. The big thing I recently learned from him is to make peace if you can, you generally want to limit the number of factions you fight at any one time, as it means you have less to worry about. Best to try wipe out one faction at a time instead of taking on the whole world. If you try do the latter you'll find it snowballing as their allies declare war with you and then their allies declare war with you etc. https://www.youtube.com/user/LegendofTotalWar/
Congrats! I need to go back and do that with Saffron still, Chrono is almost definitely the way to go for that.
Reva Beat will never not be hilarious to run though (even if it has a horribly slow start).
yeah, there are some character styles i can conceptually see how they're meant to be played but i just can't do them at all
Hazel main and Reva Beat being examples
i'll work at it though because i do want to see what Hazel's alt style is
Got the Origin premiere thing to play Jedi Fallen Order, and also Sea of Solitude after that.
Initial impression of Jedi: the game wouldn't launch when I opened it through Origin, it just had the launch screen appear and stay there as nothing happened. I had to go to the directory and use the executable directly.
Then I got stuck for about five minutes because I didn't know where to go in a small area. Turns out I had to jump and grab a thing, a thing that wasn't red or marked in some way like everything else I jumped and grabbed up to that point.
We'll see how it goes from there. The fighting part seems promising, and it sure is a Star Wars.
Funny Cast (and the plot hook) spoilers for the most recent BL3 DLC, "Guns, Love, and Tentacles".
Gaige as the wedding planner is pretty great!
But even better is her reading the cards attached to the wedding gifts in her version of what that person sounds like. So we get Gaige's voice as Mordecai, Brick, and everyone else that couldn't make it. GOLD.

It's under a different owner, still sucks, and jason is leaving because the new owner also sucks

this is really the evergreen post these days
something i try to remember with all my conversations right now is that isolation is probably bringing out our most curt tendencies
All my most Kurt tendencies
You have to have soil to lay ground. Build a canister (takes one resin, made via your backpack printer) and suck up some soil.
Yeah, a few couples in my neighborhood have been screaming at each other a lot more often than usual, given the circumstances. :?
if you can't handle me at my curtst, you don't deserve me at my kobainst
Quick, someone tell me how to play!
you make it so that after the battle there are more of your pointy bits than theirs
ohh
I have a canister (and soil), but I thought it was only used for the centrifuge. Cheers!

For the single variety of alien that is canonically all female to be sexualised? Of course that's what they wanted.
