Kharazim/Varian were interesting experiments in multiclass hero design, and having assassin/support hybrids like old Tyrande was fine. More interesting choices in draft is better for the game than maintaining quick match balance since the comps there are always gonna be kinda screwy anyway.

Hots 2.0 and gems were the 2nd best idea Blizz ever made.
The best idea was cancelling HGC.

HotS 2.0 gave me access to skins which I never would have bought. So, good change there. Boo to loot boxes and HGC going away.
I mean, yeah, to be fair. I have spent $0 on 2.0, and I spent some money beforehand. I have many more skins and heroes now than I used to . But as you said, the predatory loot boxes and HGC being cancelled are enough to deserve a ban.
I loved HotS 2.0 but the bean counters probably didn't.

Hots 2.0 gave me a ton of free shit and ensured I never spent another dime on hots again.
It was stupid and greedy and the same time.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
HOTS 2.0 actually got me into the game and I've since spent money on it. I highly doubt I would have given it another shot and I definitely wouldn't have spent money on it. I had briefly played back in Beta and maybe a little after that but just couldn't get into it then. I do think that it is in large part due to the easier access to getting/unlocking heroes. The other free items don't hurt either though.
While I don't particularly like lootboxes in games for various reasons, like people being sucked into spending tons of money on them, I really don't have any problems with HOTS lootboxes. They in no way impact gameplay (aside from the off chance of getting a hero). Other games where gear or items you could need to progress get locked behind them are awful and I will quickly stop playing those games. These are purely cosmetic and I've never spent money to open them or seen the need to, they're just a nice perk to playing. All money has gone towards either the XP boost or specific skins.
On a related note, I finally earned enough gold over the weekend and unlocked my last two heroes, so I have them all now!
HotS 2.0 literally gave me a fucking mountain of Doritos that I'm still sitting on. I have like 16,000 Doritos. Literally like an event rolls in, I craft the skins I want with Doritos, and by the time the next event rolls in, I've already recouped my loss. Those Veteran Rewards were a hell of a thing.
The only thing I buy at this point is the 360 day Stim Pack, which goes on sale around Black Friday anyway.
edit: Also I have like over 100k Gold at this point I think. Or close to. I've got every Hero in the game jsut about (missing a few that I have absolutely no intention of ever playing, but) so I can freely use Gold for new Hero releases or rerolls or w/e.
I'm hovering somewhere around 30k gold, I think? I stopped counting a long time ago. Like Dibby, I feel like I could easily have 100k+, just due to the amount of time I play this game. I purchase every 10k gold mount they post on the store, though, whether I want it or not; so a lot of gold gets dumped into those.
With regard to the doritos, I never have many on-hand; I made it my goal a long time ago to collect every Announcer, and with every hero release, they tend to drop more. And sometimes, they'll just out of the blue drop a bunch of new Announcers, like the Queen of Thorns and Raven Lord and whatnot. And they're expensive! I think each one is like 1200 or 1600 doritos, so it's taken me a very long time to close out that particular personal challenge. As of right now, I only need 1 more until I'm done.

I know it sounds dumb, but I try very hard to make all of my hero profiles "make sense" thematically. Like skin + mount is pretty standard, but then I need the banner to be on point, ideally a spray that fits the character I'm using, and an announcer that ties everything together.

I do the same thing. Even the spray is usually hero related. With the exception that currently almost everyone rides the train mount. But up to then it was trying to make the skin/mount make sense too.
Heroes I still want to see in HotS (not an exhaustive list, and in no particular order):
High Tinker Gelbin Mekkatorque
Bwonsamdi, Loa of Graves
Leeroy Jenkins (long overdue)
Natalya, Viz-Jaq'taar Assassin
Baal, Lord of Destruction
Prince Aidan, the Dark Wanderer
Goliath pilot
I would also love a more-or-less complete Firebat rework.
The Dark Wanderer in particular would strike me as awesome.
I think it could be really cool. I think Aidan is the only Diablo 1 main character we're likely to ever get: the Rogue became Bloodraven, and Sylvanas already has a Bloodraven skin; the Sorcerer fell under the control of Horazon, becoming the Summoner you fight in the Arcane Sanctum beneath Lut Gholein, and I don't know how viable that sounds. Aidan could work, though.
Wait, ETC was never created in WoW? I know it is the Blizzard band, but ETC showed up on HotS and HS, so he should have made it into WoW character long ago.

What's funny is E.T.C. actually shows up under the Warcraft category.
Elite Tauren Chieftain is the name of the actual band of real life Blizzard employees. The Elite Tauren Chieftains is the band that represents them in WoW (Samuro on vocals, Sig Nicious on guitar, etc), and ETC in HotS is basically a character that serves as their representation, or mascot, in the Nexus.
The actual "character" of ETC (the HotS version we're familiar with) doesn't appear in WoW.

Clear as fucking mud, I know.
It's dumb, yeah. Should just be under the Blizzard category, like Vikes.
He's got a special theme that we've seen around Blizzard in other places, but in the end he's just a Tauren with a name.
