...yeah I don't think Scute is long for the not-beong-banned world. The mutate combos get o.o really fast.
I was playing a non-mutate Scute deck in Historic earlier, and it got kind of hilarious in one match. Because the opponent had two creatures that were "You gain 1 life every time a creature enters the battlefield" so the scutes were giving them SO MUCH HEALTH.
I won a game in that draft with the ridiculous combo of Scute Swarm, Kor Celebrant, and Attended Healer. My opponent was swinging with a 6/5, 5/5, and 5/4 and I either took it or had chump blocks for DAYS.
And that was in limited, with only one copy of each and no mutate.
WotC's developmental issues aside, in all the videos espousing Scute Swarm's prowess, no one seems to ever be playing any interaction. Yeah, it's possible to cast the Scute and pop off in the same turn, but a 1/1 for 3 really shouldn't demand that much effort to control.
It could be true that WotC needs to better evaluate the impact such cards have on the Play queue where folks maybe just don't want to think about how to manage such things, but I strongly doubt it'll be getting banned.

Thinking Scute deserves to get banned is insane. It's a weak but hilarious Johnny/Timmy card.
Oh wait, that's Desolator Magic! He is legitimately famous meme-bait for being extremely bad at card evaluation and going on horrific tilts when he forces bad decks he thinks will be top tier; if you've ever seen the "Naegate" memes, it's from him thinking Revel and Riches was banworthy and going on an absurd rant when trying to capture footage and getting his Riches countered when he ran it out on an empty board after topdecking it.
Anything he says, you can assume isn't just incorrect, but is actively the opposite of good sense.
Turns out Nighthawk is an insane enabler for Patrician and Silversmote.
The Basri's Lieutenant sounds fun with Drana, but I've never drawn in, and I'll probably wanna ditch the Retreat for, I dunno, I guess 2 more Lieutenants or something. Maybe ditch all four and stack Vito.
Past two drafts have been a couple grindy U/B builds, one a bit less successful than the other due to an attempt at merging "+1/+1 counters matter" with whatever the heck else I thought I could get up to. On the whole, the format seems to be quite slow-paced and can result in a lot of complicated combat situations, though I have encountered (and lost to) a number of absurd Red decks that tend to have 3+ Roil Eruption; not sure how much that's a consequence of folks ignoring Red, or more a matter of the drafting structure being removed of the social mechanisms that arise when drafting AND playing within a pod. Regardless, I'd like to draft some Roil Eruption some day.
Deck 1: Taborax's Cleaning Service (6 wins / Loss to T1 Crab Mill, Boros Party, Golgari Value)
Deck 2: Wizards & Rogues, Kicker Edition (7 wins / Loss to Rakdos Party w/Zagras due to dumb mistake)
Got the fabled Double-Kill one match via two of the 1/4 Deathtouch Rogue + Soaring Thought Thief, but I mostly won via Drake Roost value and spell recursion.

You pretty much need a board wipe if the combo goes off the same turn and you don't have a kill spell up at the time. The non mutate version I was running went from 1 to 8 of the things in a single turn.

Scute is way way less powerful in limited. It’s still good, but it’s just a but load of weenies that you can eventually hit critical mass with or chump block.
Also the lack of cracklands means you aren’t constantly popping off

The issue with thinking Scute Swarm will be broken is that, fundamentally, it's a six drop. Decks can just straight up win the game before you hit six lands. Genesis Ultimatum at 7 wins the game far easier with cards that are far less bad on their own. A card can afford to be very broken at 6 mana, and "makes a ton of stuff if you have 6 mana that dies to a sweeper" isn't even that broken.
Well I just finished crushing the third Genesis Ultimatum deck with a Scute Swarm combo. Might just be an anomaly since Genesis is very RNG dependent.
In general I'd probably put more onus on land drop agro than the Scute combo since it's super vulnerable to boardwipes like Ugin. Mutate on to a Akoum Hellhound is nothing to scoff at.
7-0 Sealed with UB Mill/Removal Dot Deck. Killed either by playing cheap threats and removing their blockers, or T1 Crab and hold the fort until they concede.

So after winning every game I played today I hit plat probably as fast as I ever have with Dimir Rogues.

That's a negative, Ghostrider.
They get nothing.
The ninjutsu is an ability, not a casting cost. So it's not a spell. And Ashiok's Erasure only asks for confirmation on target after it enters the battlefield.

I just applied for a job at WotC designing Magic cards.
Admittedly I haven't played Magic in a while, but it has been a life long dream of mine. The fact that an entry level opening came up while I was still looking for a job after graduating with my BS in Computer Game Science from UC Irvine, I had to apply even though most of the games I have worked on have been digital. Been playing Magic off and on since December 25th, 1994.
So now I reinstalled MTGA because damnit I need to play again.

For them? No. But I absolutely baited it out since I had bounced it to their hand a turn earlier (they had exiled my slitherwisp with it).

Lotta mill archetypes so far.
Weird, because the only one I have seen that is super effective is just Uro + Crab.

Second "feels bad" win of the day. Won by never attacking, since the opponent had a deck focused around using enchantments to draw cards and buff creatures annnnd was way too enthusiastic about the card draw.

Are you kidding? Having the opponent deck themself is the best win of all

Just a note that this is just a visual bug.

A friend posted his stats and it specifically called out his format as Historic:
I'm guessing "Constructed" means "general play queue" then?
