One job I worked at years ago had a gym across the street that basically made most of it's business on people who worked out on their lunch hour. There's lots of office workers who make their lunch hours into exercise time and then eat at their desks while working. It's good for people's health. Better then sitting on your ass all day.

And yeah, some people get real fucking sweaty working out and have to shower or at least completely change out of their work clothes into workout clothes and back. There's nothing weird about this. People do it all the damn time.

If he argued that he thought he had the camera’s shutter closed, or thought he turned off the video while joining, or anything like that it would make more sense.

Hell, I make sure I have at least boxers and a shirt on for sessions I’m joining strictly as audio, just in case. Or at least face the camera/laptop towards a wall.

I’m not saying he should be tarred and feathered here, but it’s weird all the same.

Yes I've seen the "connecting to audio" screenshot too. Which is also weird... when I connect to zoom, the audio connects automatically with that message, but the video is automatically off and I need to click it on manually. If he's just logging on, how can his video be connected already before his audio?

Every time I've used zoom the video kicks in first. There's probably a setting somewhere that controls if you need to toggle it on or not.

His privilege is showing by...going for a jog on his lunch break?

Not the main thrust of my point, but yes, it is a sign of privilege. Amazon workers feel compelled to pee in bottles at work because they dont get enough time off during the day to take care of basic human necessities. I am sure there are a ton of other workers out there who get or at least feel their bathroom breaks and lunch breaks are policed heavily, but this guy can apparently find enough time off during the workday to get changed twice (from office clothes to workout clothes and back again) and apparently then work up enough of a sweat that he needs to get fully nude to get changed, including his underwear? Why was he changing his underwear? You dont have to get fully naked to get changed! You can do it in stages so that you are at least partially clothed the entire time! Also, if you are getting that sweaty from your workout, you will probably smell at least a bit for the rest of the day. But he apparently isnt concerned about that either.

And your sound. I do wonder whether MP’s can do this though, or if they’re locked out and it’s all handled by IT for security reasons.
Anyway. I think it can be an honest mistake, and also that someone could take a picture of it in the spirit of any investigation to confirm that it was a mistake.

Now whoever sent it to the papers, that’s a different story. (Or do they have media access here?)

Holy shit! Ontario just closed their borders with Québec and Manitoba.

I did not see that coming.

Thanks for being good neighbours and not spreading your germs across Canada!

Altough, I have to admit I wouldn't have that reaction if I wasn't still teleworking. Trafic beetween Gatineau and Ottawa will sure be a pain in the incoming days.

He also designated some areas in Ontario covid hotspots, and others not. Hotspots have higher priority for receiving vaccines and so on.

Five of the ones he's designated have a lower incidence of covid than ones that were not. Indeed, some of those areas have a lower rate of covid than the provincial average, which would seem to make them the opposite of a hot spot. Of those five, four are held by the Conservatives.

Seven areas not designated hot spots that have a higher incidence of covid than those five are all held by opposition parties.

...I don't think it's much of a stretch to say he's trying to punish places that didn't vote for him (or, more accurately because he's a fucking moron, didn't have enough people voting for him).

It's kinda difficult to do when you have a major urban area like Ottawa-Gatineau in which many people have work, familly, education on both sides of the border. Thousands of people cross the bridges everyday for entirely legitimate reasons. It's a major disruption to people's lives.

I think the fact that an MP got naked in a virtual parliament zoom meeting is newsworthy. Its one thing to take pics to stick on a revenge porn site, its another to forward to CBC.

Understandable. Not an entirely serious policy suggestion.
More a reflection on the border situation out this way.

Edit: Though I will say, when the Atlantic provinces all closed their borders, there were work/lifestyle exemption permits. It was more about non-essential travel.

Also, Yukon had an election, and it's a bit nuts.
    19 Seats up for grabs.

    Popular vote;
Yukon Party (Con) (39.32), Liberal (32.37), NDP (28.17)
    YK: 8, Lib: 8, NDP: 2

You might notice, that doesn't add up to 19. It turns out, while the legislature is tied, there's a seat up for grabs.
What's up with that seat? It's tied.

The Liberal and NDP candidates literally tied in that riding. No vote splitting, or anything, because it was just them. 78 to 78.

Now, realistically, what will happen? Well, either way, there won't be a majority. So either way, the governing Liberals will be given first chance to govern. The NDP will hold the balance of power either way. So while the specifics are yet to be determined, the structure of the next Yukon government is almost certain. They may literally draw lots for that last seat.

Bluuuugh, I'm dreading the "what if we stop vaccinating people in other provinces to throw a few water balloons at the house fire that is Ontario" discussions that have been going on all day.

Was looking forward to maybe being able to get at least one shot next month, but now I'm bracing for being stuck in line until the fall or later again if people go for that approach.

While not at the same level, NB has hundreds of workers that also live in Quebec and work in the northern part of NB. Also a ton of Western NBers work in Maine too. The Listuguj first nation in Quebec also gets most of its essential services from NB. So it's always been possible.

That all said, most of our outbreaks in NB have been from travel-related cases also so it's certainly not a perfect process.

The CBC also had at least three articles this morning railing into Ford for disregarding previous warnings, lying about how this was all unexpected and not in the original projections, and consistently employing half-measures too late and re-opening too early.

This looks like it's going to get ugly for Ford. And rightfully so. There's no fucking way we should be going up to 10,000 cases/day. That's an absolute failure.

As I said in the Discord, partisan dick waving is more important than saving lives to Conservatives.

As it turns out, Ford also asked BC for medical personnel too though.

What a garbage human Ford is. The only help he was offered was Red Cross but he won’t take it because Trudeau offered it.

Are we getting to the point where the Feds are going to have to roll out the army to assist or take over response in provinces that can’t do it?

Becaue he absolutely needs and deserves to be badgered about that constantly for the entirety of however much time he has left in politics.

It needs to be his equivalent of "but her emails," with the distinction that there's an actual thing he did and is responsible for. He and his supporters don't deserve respite from this one at all.

Cops are given expanded powers to "randomly" stop and ticket anyone they want... and they turn them down? I'd never thought I'd see the day. If ever there was a sign of how badly the Cons fucked up, making the jackboots run away from broad expanded discretionary powers is it.

Most cops have no interest in running around yelling at parents taking their kids to the park.
