Out of all the stuff that happened and mysteries that were explained, this one feels the most "a wizard did it" to me.

Feels more to me that this is a world building chapter that comes before some huge happens. I'm waiting for the shoes to start dropping. its not particularly fun to go through though yeah.

The thing is, this is the first time Kat’s visited the Norns but they know her as an old friend. So either they’re being inscrutable because it’s funny and it’s actually a metaphor because they always know everyone because Fate, or Kat comes back later in her personal timeline but earlier in theirs (if such a place exists).
I’m now thinking, Jones came into knowledge of her own existence looking like the modern ideal of human beauty but before Earth even existed. We also now have a goddess of robots with access to a time machine, and maybe these facts are connected.

...because dragons are AWESOME! That's why.

I think the implication is that it's an open time loop. Each Kat comes to see the Norns once but the Norns experience each visit on the loop

I feel like the boring part of the chapter is more fundamental, which is that once you've revealed time travel is involved and how that time travel was used, the actual part where you show past events with extra context is not very interesting and needs to be punchy, which you certainly won't get from reading a webcomic as it updates.

The eternal dilemma of the webcomicker; do I pace for the update schedule or for the archive binge/print book?

GK's pacing is for print I guess

where you can't instantly go back years in the archives for a re-read and the writer needs to show you again the play-by-play

Y'all missing that kat's asking "did I save Annie?" Like she doesn't see 2 Annies saved right in front of her

She deffo doesn't think of these two as her friend Annie

Given the time shenanigans going on I think it's a lot more complicated than what you're making it out to be.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

She thinks of them as her friend Annie. But she also thinks of all the other Annies from other timelines as her friend Annie, and knows that at least one of them died there to kickstart her making the bird.

That's not really how the time loop theory works. OTOH, we also know multiverse theory is real based on multiple Annies. OTOOH, that was done by god magic, not time travel.

Yeah she assumed an Annie died but thats incorrect. Her assumption leads her to create the bird though and starts the loop.

    Gk theory
Kat built Jones and sent her back to the dawn of time to be an immovable human counterweight to the forest and the court.

Tangentially became record of human life from a single perspective.
