A few buddies and I have sunk like a hundred hours into Valheim. It is a solid survival game, in a market with tons of survival games. I'm not even really sure why THIS game, other than having some pretty creative exploration mechanics.
We were discussing the other day what makes a game just seem to catch the attention of people and take off vs. not. It's completely random at times. It's not even that Valheim isn't a great game, it is, but I have no idea why everyone I know is playing it suddenly. Was there a guerilla marketing campaign that got me at first and I didn't realize it?

Having solid multiplayer, especially co-op probably helps in this time of increased streaming. Kind of like how Among Us is 2 years old but blew up a few months ago because of visibility from streamers.

Just be careful if you build in the vicinity of friends, because every so often something will raid your place, potentially things like trolls, and if some newb happens to be in your town, goes into panic mode and logs out, leaving the troll(s) to flatten half of your town... yeah, build sturdy, people. Preferably surrounded in a freaking 20-foot-deep moat.
Tycho. Lord Brahe. My liege. I beg you sir: help us defend this bastion of the English language from being entirely overrun. The past tense of the verb "to give" is "gave." ("Gifted" is what school administrators call Nerds.)

Giving steam gifts is often called getting gifted. Because they're gifts. It's the lingo!

Do you know why they're called gifted? Because they have been gifted with intelligence. It's like how bread is a baked good because someone baked it.
Is Valheim even enjoyable solo? As a person who doesn't have any friends that play video games, it's always annoying how popular co-op games get with the presumption everyone has someone else who would play it with them.

It's very light on the survival mechanics, and you can Robinson Crusoe/Castaway it up, if you want. Most of my play in the game has been solo, with occasional jaunts with folks from here on a private server.

Anybody who complains about "gifted" isn't allowed to say "grinded".

I would say the vast majority of its magic is in creating hijinks with friends.
