You can do things, they just have to be worth it given the people that die from literally any stressor no matter how minor. I feel this is a good lower bound for government action.

yeah but nobody ever applies this very special analysis anywhere else

it's just that some stats nerds were mad about losing an hour of sleep

yeah i'm pretty okay with "people die as a direct result of a completely pointless and unnecessary thing that literally serves no actual purpose, therefore we should stop doing the thing"

    It's not completely pointless!

It's an energy saving measure, the switch during winter being a balance between increasing evening daylight vs having no daylight at all in the mornings.

I mean we've been trending towards "eh dark mornings are fine" and staying fully on DST is probably the best but still, it wasn't like we just made this up for funsies.

I continue to be inordinately pleased with my progress.

Groups of tiles will now adjust the labels to combine side lengths!

The next thing I need to do is figure out why things will sometimes snap weird if you let go at the just the right time.

And then add an option to the radial menu for making tiles negative, maybe make them "smart" about changing dimensions to be negative when snapping.

And then add a way to generate tiles with custom dimensions, and make the mobile version not janky, and

I hate how being ignored by my friends makes me feel, so I try to stay on top of my emails. I started removing myself from mailing lists, and marking emails as spam if they didn't allow that so Google automatically removes them. It works pretty good, I generally only get a handful of emails a day.

    EDIT: In my personal email.

I get hundreds of work emails a day in my work email and I am unable to keep up with it, so I have a whole bunch of sorting rules and have around 40k unread emails.

I've been in this job for less than a year. >.>

Scientists Want to Send a Massive Load of Jizz to the Moon
The lunar ark would store 6.7 million Earth species, including humans.

Humans have tried to nuke and colonize the moon. We've spilled tardigrades all over it. In 2020, of all years, some TikTok witches hexxed it. For a celestial body that's main job is to control the ocean's tides and be barren, the moon has been through a lot.

If that wasn't enough, scientists are now talking about sending a bunch of splooge to the moon.

this is a good headline @Fuzzy Cumulonimbus Cloud

I think it's pretty likely that this particular thing stats nerds looked into ended up making it into the popular culture discussion around a universally hated thing like Daylight Savings Time

As opposed to the idea that stats nerds aren't doing stats nerd things with literally everything all the time

2000 or unreadable so is a very manageable number to go through if you just do it.

first, kill all the bulk mail. start at the top of the unread list and for every bulk email you find, filter for it, then unsubscribe and delete all. After about 20 rounds of this, 75% of the email will be gone. If something is not like a store newsletter but actual spam be sure to mark as junk.

Next find all recurring billing emails, same as the other stuff. Filter, select all, mark as read, and possibly archive them if you want records.

After this, 90% will be gone. You'll have about 200 messages remaining. Button through them, deleting, junking, and archiving as necessary. In an hour, two tops, this task will be done forever and upkeep is easy.

I'm looking for advice on optimizing my home office setup. Here's what I have:

    A Macbook work laptop
    A personal PC
    Two monitors
    Wired KBAM

Here's what I'd like: A dock + switch setup for my work laptop that allows me to flick a switch to swap between having my monitors/KBAM attached to my PC vs attached to my work laptop.

I’m pretty sure, but too lazy to go cite, that energy savings is a myth and it’s more about people generally spending more money when it’s lighter out. By keeping it lighter out later in the months where people are generally out more, they spend more money. There’s be a negative effect on GDP if we went back to normal.

Maybe that’s a myth too but it makes more sense to me. There’s no way we keep extending daylight savings time to save more energy when as a nation we keep screwing up other ways to save energy.

If I need something, I search for it. Personal email is mostly for receipts anyway. Work email is just a big database I can search for anything older than a day or two.

I kind of like having a searchable archive of a lot of my important personal communications, love letters, tity pictures etc from about 10 to 15 years ago and am a bit sad that that has moved to ephemeral text messages that tend to vanish between cell phones.

On the other hand, now that most people I know from my age cohort and social groups are using Discord, I kind of have that again, which is nice.

My policy for finding a therapist for any reason is as follows
    • Call every therapist within 45min of travel from me, AFTER HOURS
    • Leave a long voicemail stating my name, insurance, concerns, and contact info, in which I request that they DO NOT FOLLOW UP WITH ME if they don't have room or take my insurance, unless they are calling bc they know someone who does
    • Do not pick up and let the ones that call back leave me a voicemail (that way if all someone has for me is information or they can't follow my instructions I don't deal with them directly)
    • Return calls for peoples whose voicemails I liked
    • Schedule 2-3 visits in a two-week span until I find someone I like
    • Come to all first visits with a list of priorities

Bleric im not gonna lie this is exactly how I handle situations in general so you're a-ok in my book

But clean up your goddamn inbox. Start with older than Jan 1 2021 and just clear that first.

I bought this. Oh shit it's out of stock. There's only 1 left of the 2xHDMI version too.

Anyway it does a superb job and comes with all the cables it needs which is a huge value. Not all KVMs are equal and while some may be as good, many will be worse than this one I can guarantee behaves VERY well, switches fast, and none of the computers it hooks to complain.

Monitors and USB devices get proper disconnects and therefore clicking the button to change machines works cleanly and quickly. Monitor EDID is passed correctly so icons don't scramble and the displays enumerate correctly every time. Again, these are not givens with all KVMs.
