Daylight Saving [chat] is this weekend
Posts
It's not completely pointless!
It's an energy saving measure, the switch during winter being a balance between increasing evening daylight vs having no daylight at all in the mornings.
I mean we've been trending towards "eh dark mornings are fine" and staying fully on DST is probably the best but still, it wasn't like we just made this up for funsies.
fuck up once and you break your thumb / if you're happy at all then you're god damn dumb
that's right we're on a fucked up cruise / God is dead but at least we have booze
bad things happen, no one knows why / the sun burns out and everyone dies
Groups of tiles will now adjust the labels to combine side lengths!
The next thing I need to do is figure out why things will sometimes snap weird if you let go at the just the right time.
And then add an option to the radial menu for making tiles negative, maybe make them "smart" about changing dimensions to be negative when snapping.
And then add a way to generate tiles with custom dimensions, and make the mobile version not janky, and
EDIT: In my personal email.
I get hundreds of work emails a day in my work email and I am unable to keep up with it, so I have a whole bunch of sorting rules and have around 40k unread emails.
I've been in this job for less than a year. >.>
I think we should get on a train that circumnavigates the world so that we are perpetually in the same day

Probably down to ps1 cpu lacking floating point. Everything has integer locations. Also why you get some weird wobbling in animations because stuff can only move in discreet steps.
there isn't any evidence it saves energy and there is evidence it creates higher energy usage
this is a good headline @Fuzzy Cumulonimbus Cloud

As opposed to the idea that stats nerds aren't doing stats nerd things with literally everything all the time
i would and I would also clean the filter in your air conditioner and tighten three screws in your door hinge so it's balanced and stops sticking and then we'd go get apple cider doughnuts.
Ah. I didn't know it's processing was that simple.
but then what would we argue about the weekend before DST?
I don't even disagree!

i'm sure we can come up with something
I'm looking for advice on optimizing my home office setup. Here's what I have:
A Macbook work laptop
A personal PC
Two monitors
Wired KBAM
Here's what I'd like: A dock + switch setup for my work laptop that allows me to flick a switch to swap between having my monitors/KBAM attached to my PC vs attached to my work laptop.
Thoughts?
I’m pretty sure, but too lazy to go cite, that energy savings is a myth and it’s more about people generally spending more money when it’s lighter out. By keeping it lighter out later in the months where people are generally out more, they spend more money. There’s be a negative effect on GDP if we went back to normal.
Maybe that’s a myth too but it makes more sense to me. There’s no way we keep extending daylight savings time to save more energy when as a nation we keep screwing up other ways to save energy.
I kind of like having a searchable archive of a lot of my important personal communications, love letters, tity pictures etc from about 10 to 15 years ago and am a bit sad that that has moved to ephemeral text messages that tend to vanish between cell phones.
On the other hand, now that most people I know from my age cohort and social groups are using Discord, I kind of have that again, which is nice.
Bleric im not gonna lie this is exactly how I handle situations in general so you're a-ok in my book
But clean up your goddamn inbox. Start with older than Jan 1 2021 and just clear that first.
Are you my father in law?
While he's here this weekend he's going to:
clean our drains
investigate possible squirrels scratching at our roof
hang a really heavy mirror
do some regular maintenance on our water heater
and I'm sure some other projects he can come up with
The Botanist?
yeah that's just a kvm switch, they're cheap and programmable
According to my inbox, my best friend is Amazon.

I bought this. Oh shit it's out of stock. There's only 1 left of the 2xHDMI version too.
Anyway it does a superb job and comes with all the cables it needs which is a huge value. Not all KVMs are equal and while some may be as good, many will be worse than this one I can guarantee behaves VERY well, switches fast, and none of the computers it hooks to complain.
Monitors and USB devices get proper disconnects and therefore clicking the button to change machines works cleanly and quickly. Monitor EDID is passed correctly so icons don't scramble and the displays enumerate correctly every time. Again, these are not givens with all KVMs.
Someone should run those numbers for the days/weeks after every major holiday. We're probably going to need to ban new years eve, Halloween, and fourth of july, all encouraging people to stay up late.

we do run these numbers for holidays and there's very interesting effects around most of them. Christmas in particular keeps people alive, with most but not all pending deaths resolving in January. net positive somehow!

I only need to learn it once though, if Congress pulls though

My attitude got fucked in 1989 and never went back to normal.
Alright, I grabbed the 2xHDMI one, that should be sufficient for now. My monitors are pretty meh anyway.
I'll work out adapters and stuff as needed.
Thanks!
you see?! DST longhauler right here
And I have to keep on top of escalated situations that require immediate attention.
And I have to do this for two mailboxes (my own, and a shared inbox).

I'd love it if you took a look at my art and my PATREON!
I mean if we're just going to make up statistics, then sure.
Although even this is silly, because of course there will be more gym injuries if more people are going to the gym. Unless you're arguing that going to the gym is actually a net negative, I don't see why it would require legislative action.
