Paint related question, my cat keeps trying to drink my paint water and I don't think she managed to ingest any, but how bad would it be if she did? (I'm just using citadel base paints)
One of the things I am curious about the "new" white primer is will it replace the current one since Corax white is the generic white this is more for contrast according to the article
I do have to get more white primer since I have a swarm to paint {as well as a huge backlog}

how was Sinisters cape? feel I am going to need to sub assemble when I get around to painting him.
Absolutely do not make the same mistake I did. I should have painted the cape assembly before putting it on the figure. It was a bitch to paint fully assembled and I know I missed some spots. They are hidden well enough but I know they are there...
Also the contrast range seems to continue to be varying wildly in coverage and actual shading properties.
Some of the previewed colours don't seem to to much shading at all and look more like a normal basecoat.

I painted Guardsmen! First ones since 2010. I still have lots of room to improve and I can already see a noticeable improvement from the first of the squad and the last. As mentioned in the 40k thread, it is a combination of my own old IG camo pattern, early WW1 French red pants, and the color of British P08 web gear. I already know ways I'd do it better if I ever did more. Kinda messed up the gas mask eye lenses after trying something with contrast paints and washes, but it isn't noticeable on the table.
Also I did the rest of the box, like the Orks and terrain. I've always sucked at painting Orks, but I'm okay with these.
Been painting some Chaos lads recently, and I did a photoshoot because why not
I posted the Emperor's Children before but the Alpha Legion are more recent.
I've also been working on a youtube channel, including how I painted these guys.
Take a look!
Any feedback/advice/views would be much appreciated! https://youtu.be/bjKJU2db9z8
Weird thing: I was zenithal priming 12 models. I'd already primed them black, so I was just using white primer in my airbrush.
I didn't think to count them once I thought I was done, so I cleaned my airbrush then found that I'd only zenithal'd 11 models.
I got the white primer going again and finished the last one.
Now I'm looking at the whole set of 12 a few hours later, and the last one is way more white than the rest of them. I don't think it's down to technique, the primer on the first 11 is more grey than white, and the 12th one is more white.
I'm going to do one more pass on them to get them close to uniform, but it's weird. I feel like I clean my airbrush pretty well, but maybe not. Or maybe I use too much flow improver or something.

Yeah my idle thought about doing deathguard have rapidly escalated into full collection. I think at this point half my box is destined for the Sons of Barbarus, the other half for my Raven Guard, but as the're at about 3k points, mostly infantry, I think I can explore new noxius, foggy horizons.

Is it the raven guard that absolutely detested using phosphors and stuff? I remember one of the loyal legions special Rites of War were all “can’t have destroyers” in the new book.
Salamanders. At least one of their rites of war prohibits the use of destroyers and moritats and Vulcan doesn't like them in the background, because they don't just kill but also poison the land.

Thanks. Not sure if it’s ironic that they love fire so much then… but there are trees in Australia that literally need to be set on fire to spread their seeds, so…
Fire cleanses! It allows the world to be reborn anew under the light of the Holy Emperor, having removed the stain of Chaos
The following people are amazing and I love them: Wildcat, Timspork, Kias, Denada, susan, Sharp101, [GHSC]Ryctor, Matev, Matrias, ItBurns, Slapnuts, Dayspring, see317, and the unknown poster that sent me a box of Death Company! If you get them as Santees you should buy them amazing things!
Yeah its sponge and a little bit of brush chipping. An actual sponge is too heavy, so old blister foam is pretty much ideal. Its great for chipping up edges and raised surfaces, but it hard to get into lower areas and can kinda look shit if you over do it. Brush chipping is pretty easy and great for flat surfaces. For large areas the ye old salt flakes and hairspray is probably the best bet.

Hey hivemind, I need some input.
I'm working on a scheme, lots of grey on grey but broken up with yellow accents. I decided I don't want to do the joint accents in a flat color, and chose to use gold metallic to sorta match up to the other yellows. However, my paint (VMC Gold) feels really hard to manipulate on these small surfaces, and I don't know that I like the look.
I ended up applying it somewhere between a drybrush and a wetbrush, and it clearly didn't go on smooth. I'm not convinced this paint can go on smooth, honestly, it's so thick and thinning it makes it behave weird.
So, first: is the choice of gold even a good-looking choice? I could go back to a gunmetal or whatever, but've done that over grey so much lately I'm kinda getting tired of it. I also considered a copper color, but I don't think the color would line up as nicely.
Do I need to change metallic paints? This pot of VMC Gold feels barely above a craft paint in terms of usability. Maybe change the paint?
GW's presentation of their new contrast and shade paints baffles me. Two articles now that tell but don't show what they can be used for. And what even is the difference between their contrast "whites" and off white colours and these shades?
Proof of concept for a "truescale" tyranid warrior. Trying to go for a more sentient looking "organic space-suit" type vibe, rather than bestial space bug. What you guys think?
Why a true scale? as a tyranid warrior seems to not bring up that question?
"truescale" just for similarity of execution. I cut up all the joints and pinned them back together so I can repose and lengenthen the whole silhouette. I like the concept of nid warriors, but their proportions are pretty janky. I was trying to solve a few things here:
-The legs are sort of squat and stumpy, with oddly set hips. Out of the box, they're very off balance, verging on falling forward. I wanted to be able to set the whole model more upright, with more agile looking legs.
-The bio weapons are all ridiculously huge, and further exacerbate the off-balance issues. Especially the venom cannon, which is larger than the warrior carrying it. This is easily solved by cutting them way down to the grips and just making new weird muzzles for them.
-The multiple arms fight with each other. They're all roughly the same size and poses, so they constantly get in each others way and just give a very messy overall appearance to the model. By making one pair visibly larger/longer, there's a clear visual hierarchy of "primary" and "secondary" arms. By reposing some of the joints, I can also fold and tuck the limbs up like bird wings to get them out of the way, rather than always having them "barrel of monkeys" splayed out.
-Tyranid faces are goofy and I hate them. Slobbering dinosaur grins are just uninteresting, so basically any sort of conversion to "other" their faces is a win in my book.
I particularly like these two pieces of warrior art that show a more spindly, menacing frame.
vs what ever the heck is going on with these guys. What a jumbled mess.

I feel like you can't lose because they're some of the most dated-looking GW models I'm aware of. It's genuinely impressive how much the way the legs connect to the body is an afterthought.
It's crazy that they made an entire new kit than was 90% identical to the old one. It's like the tau crisis suit update, but with no engineering improvements.
I haven't been doing anything all that exciting to share so here's just a photo dump of some progress. Mostly been plugging away at re-doing/adding to my Custodes.
Spoiler for the rest of the Custodes
New Bike Captain and one from the missile squad. These take forever and I hate doing them so I haven't got to the other two yet.
Did some Solerite Gauntlet Custodes for Horus Heresy, really hope it's still an option in the new edition.
And then this week finally painted up my Ultramarines Praetor to get excited for 2.0. Took a group shot of what I have ready for Heresy Ultras for self motivation.

That's absolutely what they are. And I'd bet the other colors are just existing paints with contrast medium.

Is the weathering on those just sponge method? Weathering with something other than streaking grime is something I need to learn.
