I guess I hope this works out for him - I feel like he needs someone else in the room for his style of rambling conversations.
Like Jeff has always given me the vibe of basically hating twitch chat and the vocal minority that represents a lot of video game fandom

I have confidence he can make something interesting out of it. But it does seem like something that happened quickly, maybe before it was meant to. But on the other hand sometimes you have to pull the lever to make something happen.
yeah he definitely got kicked out by the ownership on short notice. The way GB and he are awkwardly avoiding mentioning each other at all is too weird.
I'm just surprised it was so self-admittedly ramshackle, since he knows people who did exactly what he is doing now, but a year ago.
Also I love the new podcast art, which is legally distinct from the GB-logo/podcast art, yessir.
Yeah...watching this stream, and seeing him struggle to set up a podcast and Youtube channel, this was definitely a sudden and unexpected parting. I think he was already leaving, just uh....not when it happened.
did not expect that. i haven't been enjoying much of anything that the gb and ex-gb folks have been putting out since the lockdown streams (which i did love, some incredible content in there) so maybe i'm just not the audience anymore.

Has Jeff said much yet? Atm he is talking about E3.
He's not talking about what happened, says he's focusing on the future.

Based off what Gerstmann said, it still definitely feels like the timeline was at least a matter of several weeks, which is blistering fast for the speed of corporate, but still a lot of work that was going on behind the scenes for quite some time
I am getting the sense that we're probably not going to learn why he actually left, but the conspiracy theories running rampant about the website are honestly kind of fucking gross
I don't see myself joining his Patreon but I will check out his podcast and whatever his Youtube channel becomes. There's already enough content overlap in the Giant Bombcast and the NXL podcast that a third time through the same news stories is a BIG ask. I'm already skipping through either GB's or NXL's news section because once is enough for me.
A solo podcast isn't really my thing so his podcast may become a listen to the sections that interest me and skip the rest. With how scuffed everything is I'm guess time stamps for topics is unlikely.

Has he said that, verbatim, or is that an interpretation?
Because I saw that mentioned before when he hadn’t actually said that on stream. He had said that he wasn’t going to talk about the past today, which is different.
I have no idea what my podcast queue is going to look like in the coming weeks. Up until recently, it's been Bombcast --> Nextlander --> Dumptruck --> Catch up on an episode or three or Retronauts (79 in my backlog!). I feel like adding Jeff's in there makes this untenable for me. I guess we'll see and eventually I might cut something.
I used my Prime Sub for his Twitch for at least this month but I think he will be just fine looking at # of Patreon subscribers already.
Not commuting has ruined my ability to listen to podcasts. I just don't have a lot of time where I'm not on a call or something when I am actively working.

Pretty much verbatim, I don't recall him putting a timeframe on it but I could be wrong.
I believe in this work, now more than ever. Especially the podcast end of things. The problem is that doing a lot of this work for someone else means that a chunk of your behind-the-scenes time is taken up with meetings and staring at traffic numbers and various types of hand-wringing. This aspect of the business seems like it's only getting worse as the years go on. So it's time for me to do something about that and reclaim that time for more useful endeavors. It's time for me to pull a Mario Van Peebles. It's time for me to go solo.

The skit that the new crew wrote up was made at least 2-3 weeks ago, Jeff Grubb mentioned that he wrote it up and soon after moved with his entire family to a new studio place. He was tweeting photos of his moving process by the 26th of May

Hes only actually been moving for the past few days though

Some people consider packing as part of the "move" and anyone who has moved with a child knows that shit can take time.
Fuck it, I’ll join that Patreon for a bit, anyway. I drifted away from GB a few months before the Nextlander crew left, and haven’t followed basically any gaming personalities since, but I like Jeff a lot and want to see what he does when he’s cut loose.
Yeah seems like Jeff has had little time to prepare and feels a bit fly by wire but I have faith he will get something sorted over time. I’m hoping it’s all up from here.

That's not accurate at all. Nextlander had like a month to build the backend of their business between leaving GB and announcing nextlander.

I can't think of anything I'd want to ask that isn't like, asking what happened or what he's planning to do.

I asked him to describe his current situation via wrestling jargon.
So mildly silly, but mildly inquisitive.

Ended up sending an email asking if there's anything on his backlog that he never had time to get around to that he might wanna play.
hahah
if he does this it would be incredible
"It was time to leave the territory".

Then I can't wait for Gerstmann to say "Fuck Giant Bomb" for several years only to end up back there.

Also, he already has sponsors for his podcast, so it can't be that sudden.
