It's amazing what you can accomplish with a forced perspective and a little elbow grease.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

birth of a nation had revolutionary filming techniques too
actually broadly speaking everything in birth of a nation is very established at that point in film circles, but it received widespread promotion in a way that those other films didn't, because of its role as propaganda
Angela Lansbury plays a classic, legendary villain.

I saw the modern one with liev schreiber and uh...denzel washington? many years ago
it was...fine. a perfect example of a movie I had no complaints about while I was watching and will never have any desire to watch again as long as I live.

the robocop remake was fine, right until the end
Like, they played this movie straight, it wasn't a satire, but that's not a mark against it imo, it was decent for what it was
But instead of having a pretty trite ending of robocop overcoming his programing and shooting the evil executive, they should've had his wife (who the evil executive was holding hostage and who was being damseled for most of the movie) snatch away the executive's wrist mcguffin that activates robocop fourth directive allowing him to shoot the fucker
I am almost certain this was, in fact, the original ending they filmed but it didnt pass test screenings because it didnt make robocop look "badass" enough
he needs his wife to help him? The power of love and human connection overcoming corporate greed and restrictions? what is this gay shit

I will give this to the robocop remake, they absolutely did not hold back on the body horror
In his first public appearance, his database detects a man wanted for murder in the crowd, and duly arrests him.
It always bugged me what the heck someone wanted for such a serious crime is doing going to a major policing event.
I half expected him to be a plant and his entry inserted into the database to have a big dynamic event of how awesome Robocop is set up by Michael Keaton. But no, that man really was that dumb.
Oh also the whole "we hijack his sense of consciousness with an algorithm" idea never paying off with him shooting someone he'd never have done if he was in control.

That’s like, the whole point! What’s the fuckin point of robocop if it’s not satirising capitalist greed and the police state?!

Like, everywhere had enough power to have 24hr surveilance and municipalities were taking care of rubbish and whatnot
robocop wasn't needed at all, it's just that the drone company really wanted to expand their drone sales to the police so they started inventing shit
it was kinda muddled and it wasn't good satire, but there was something of a throughline

Yeah this is about the only effective scene
