“We’ve sold them to third parties. That has been one of the metrics. And they are doing very well,” said Gibbons. “And, so, because we see the appeal of the category, we are expanding it. Anime is one of the best ways to reach the 18 to 30-year-old audience, which is incredibly elusive. Globally, albeit not in every market, but certainly in the U.S., parts of Europe and Latin America, we’ve got strong anime audiences.”
In light of the much discussed cancellations and write-offs from the same conglomerate, this announcement definitely feels like a vote of no confidence in Warner Discovery's own domestic animation studios. That's probably more dramatic than the reality of the situation, but it's certainly the first thing that came to mind when I read it.
We decided to give the first episode of Hazbin Hotel a shot too, partially on high praise from here. My daughter was apprehensive because she said she saw some reviews online saying it was pretty bad.
I have since explained to her that those reviewers are never to be trusted with anything ever again.
We've only watched one episode so far, but it fucking rocked. In both the literal and figurative sense.
"Let's take a look at the scores! The girls are at the square root of Pi, while the boys are still at a crudely drawn picture of a duck. Clearly, it's anybody's game!"
The first episode, or the pilot? Because if you missed the pilot, definitely go back and watch that, even though most of the voices and some of the general directorial style changed.
And of course, Helluva Boss is right there too, with not quite as many songs, but still a lot of amazing ones, and a lot stronger on the character/development front, though fair warning, it does spend a few episodes being pretty crass and puerile.
In other news, I watched Kung Fu Panda 4 last Saturday. It's ok. Definitively the weakest of the films, story-wise. Animation was pretty fantastic, I think Dreamworks might be pushing their skills again.
Like, the plot was kinda bad in that the villain's plan relied exclusively on Po doing one very specific thing. And sure, it worked because he's predicable and very honorable. But still. Also, the "big city" jokes felt off to me because Po was in Gongmen City for a while in KFP 2. So... it just feels odd to have him not mention that at all in the Juniper City segments.
It continued to do the action scene with a joke that's been the hallmark of the series from the jump and it still works here (somehow.) Overall, it's not a bad movie but it slots right in behind all the others making my ranking: 1, 3, 2, and 4.
This is going to be the mother fucking red wedding all over again.
It's the kind of plot point that, if they actually freakin' do it, causes people to lord their absolute morality over others and completely derails a thread for 20 pages until a mod locks it. Which kind of makes it a plot point people should absolutely spoil themselves on to figure out if they even want to keep watching this show or not.
Or maybe they don't do it! I don't terribly care either way, I've got no dog in the race. But the sicko in me wants them to do it, because I know the internet will immolate itself for a few weeks. Good time to roast some marshmallows.

Not to mention the conversation that will erupt either way about how that particular thing plays out in media.
Some real “anime story arc titles” energy in the thread right now. If y’all got stuff to say about future episodes of a show, maybe drop them in spoilers instead of giving “vague” hints?
I mean, it's Invincible. It's a relatively grounded, contemplative coming of age story awkwardly welded to the most shocking ultraviolence and grossness that popped into Robert Kirkland's head. I'd be surprised if the show didn't do an insane over-the-top tonal lurch.

Specifically that edgelordy grimdark suffering porn angle has me fully burnt out on Invincible. Characters don't exist to be characters, they just exist to inflict pain or have pain inflicted upon them. They couldn't pay me to care less about arcs that get about half as much attention as how much they can brutalize and injure everybody the camera touches. Even when a situation reasonably would have a reasonable outcome, nope, somebody (or somebodies) is getting exploded or ripped apart or the old standby, beat the shit out of Invincible again while trying to frame it as character growth.
It quickly went from "trying way too hard to be shocking but has potential" to being simply tedious.
Why doesn't she have a body, like, in a vault, or stasis, or something?
It seems like a person in a highly dangerous job capable of having multiple bodies, any of which can ensure her survival, would do this if they could.
New season
Seems important, given what happened while the A team was in space. Of course they could bring her back using
this justification, but I'm just surprised that Cecil wouldn't just come by, look at the carnage, and pull their spare Kate from a tube in the back room.

We never see her keeping a clone around for all that long, and she always starts a fight with only the one, it could be whatever process lets her duplicate causes the duplicates to break down in fairly short order, or maybe it's her mind being split between the clones is too mentally taxing if they're too far apart.

Fair enough. I'm just wondering if they addressed it when I wasn't paying attention; if they didn't it would seem like an odd oversight for this show.
Given how much time they're spending on Donald's ressurections and the implications therein.

I don't actually know in depth details about the comics, but apparently she does exactly that in them. So I guess that's one big ass change they're making.

So I've been watching X-men97 and honestly, It's pretty good. Like the art and some of the VA work can be a little off putting but overall it feels like a love letter to fans of the orginial show.
Some interesting notes:
Real Spoilers
Morph is part of the main cast and while he apparently still has... issues he still shows up to do his part when the going gets tough. Also, some of his behavior combined with Logan's attitude towards him is giving me some pings on my gaydar. Which is an interesting choice since the X-men have been seen as an analogue for LBG for decades and doing so with a character that was created expressley for the orginal series wouldn't be that much of a stretch. It does seem interesting though that wolverine seems to be... kind of down with it? Maybe Bi-curious?
It's absolutely hilarious that Magneto has a trial and winds up being found innocent. Honestly kind of insane.
There seems to be some interesting growing pains with the group (specifically scott and jean) wherein there are questions of whether or not they should stay in the aftermath of charles death with no easy answers either way.
It is great hearing Cal Dodd doing VA work as wolverine; makes me wonder if they'll dig up Rick Benett to VA juggernaught again (he actually sounded exactly like helmet head IRL when He was Dean of the film school I attended).
Overall I'd say the series has been good. There are only 3 episodes out right now but If I had to judge it I'd say it's like a 7/10.

Well
She has to tell people about it. So I think it will be a reveal.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Technically not animation as it'll be live-action, but: Paramount's developing an R-rated TMNT movie based on The Last Ronin. Tyler Burton Smith is writing, Walter Hamada is producing.
If I want to be naively optimistic, I would hope that R rating is to put it more in line with say Logan. Nothing is more sillier than seeing someone go to town with a bladed weapon, making kill strike after kill strike, and not a drop of blood to be seen. Hopefully it doesn't mean turning "The Ronin" into somebody who uses "motherfucker" as punctuation.
edit:
And now the phrase "Cowabunga... motherfucker." just popped into my head, and I don't know if that's funny or cringy. Probably both.

The Last Ronin definitely has a body count to it, the remaining turtle is well past the point of giving fucks about showing enemies the mercy of earlier years. It's definitely more John Wick in tone, though, I wouldn't expect quippy snappy dialogue.
This week, 38North published an article revealing that a North Korean animation studio was believed to have worked on the upcoming anime Dahlia in Bloom. This is despite sanctions currently being observed forbidding businesses from working with state-owned North Korean companies. An analysis of leaked files shows that the North Korean studio was likely April 26 Animation Studio, also known as SEK Studio. 38North adds that the studio is North Korea's leading animation studio, producing many series for domestic TV.
Analysis of the files has also revealed that instructions in Chinese were provided to the North Korean studio, with 38North adding that a Chinese company likely acted as an intermediary between the North Korean studio, Dahlia in Bloom's animation studio and others. Other animated series the studio is believed to have worked on are HBO's Iyanu, Child of Wonder and Invincible Season 3. Files have also been identified that may suggest a relationship with the Japanese animation studio Ekachi Epilka (Demon Lord, Retry!).
I watched the first season, I might as well see what the second season is like.
I still think they should have just made this show it's own thing instead of trying to make a twisted edgy scoobydoo. These hateful characters would have been fine if they were other people. Inspired by, like Venture Bros did or other countless shows without direct rights. They've already replaced Shaggy with Norbert, why not do the same with all of them.

The Kevin Love Fund's mission is to inspire people to live their healthiest lives while providing tools for both mental and physical health.
And if that's not cool enough, they also co-produced a new Spider-Verse short! https://youtu.be/FcGPpwFdE1Y?si=qpaWypntE9Wp0_4d
Great short but I'd hate to have arachnophobia and watch that.

I was thinking maybe they replaced all the writing for the english sub version. Probably not that difficult if they planned for it.
There is an English dub of it
Yeah...not exactly minor titles here.
