What are you going to B to the YOC?

So I just placed a massive order for parts, and it got me to thinking, what's coming to the BYOC this year? Here's what I'm building this week (for PAX):

MSI K9N Platinum nForce 570 SLI

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+

Matched pair Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR2-800 2x1gb

MSI GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB OC'ed

2x Samsung 19" LCDs (941BW)

Western Digital 500GB Sata 2

Enermax Liberty 620W

Plextor 740A DVD±R/RW

Creative P7800 7.1 speakers

AeroCool PowerWatch

Titan Amanda TEC Cooler (rebranded Macstek MA-7130)

Antec Nine Hundred case

Vista Home Premium 64

I figure this'll play Supreme Commander with almost tolerable frame rates. :P I'll probably double the RAM, gfx, and HD later, but this has already run me ~$2k.

Preemptive strike: yeah, yeah, Intel Core 2 Duos rule the known universe. However the E6600 performs more or less the same as the 6000+ for the same price, so my admitted AMD fanboyism wins.

Also, did you know nForce 570s frequently match or outperform 590s in their default configuration? Saved me $40. The Crucial Ballistix is the most aesthetically pleasing memory ever designed. You can't understand from the pictures online, but it's like a freakin' piece of art in person. The Titan Amanda is the most awesome heatsink on the market today. Excuse me, sir, does your heatsink have a CARD? Didn't think so.

I'll also be bringing my Synology DS-106e gigabit NAS which has another WD 500 GB drive in it.

My baby starts with a lucious E6600 paired up with a delicious 8800GTS fed by two gigs of savory 800mhz DDR2 all packaged in a creamy small form factor Silverstone SG-01.

Hum, what are my odds for commandeering El Turtles system this year?

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Well, I'm going to be pretty busy with panels, including moderating one on computer hardware 8-), so I might be persuaded to let somebody use it during those times through a limited access account.

Not that this is a promise or anything, it's just not outside the realm of possibility.

Thanks for the heads up on that crucial ballistix memory. I can score 2gb of DD2-800 for 153$+shipping directly from them. I wanted the corsair led memory but it is around 100$ more :/

    Normally I'm rocking out a:

    NZXT Lexa case http://www.nzxt.com/products/lexa/
    Tyan Tiger i7525 http://www.tyan.com/archive/products/html/tigeri7525.html
two Socket 604 2.8ghz Xeon processors
4GB of HP DDR2-3200 ECC Registered RAM (funny story behind this stuff, and the basis of this whole comp, and yes I know it's slow)
    BFG GeForce 7600GT 256MB
    260GB WD IDE hard drive
    360GB Seagate IDE hard drive
Cooler Master Green Power 550 PSU (that I won at PAX last year :) )

But alas, I travel by plane this year, and there's no cheap way to get my box from Marshall to Seattle. As such I'm going to be bringing my newly acquired (but 3 year old) laptop. It's saving grace is the Radeon 9200 it has in it which makes WoW and CS:S playable (but by no means great). I just upgraded the on-board wifi from the Intel 2100 to the Intel 2200 (b to g) and it's going to have 2 gigs of RAM in it (DDR PC2700) by the time PAX rolls around. Also replaced the hard drive with a 7200RPM one.
