Wait, people shut down their computers? Mine only ever gets turned off if there's a power outage, and also that one time I took it to QuakeCon
I think there's a good bit of parasitic power drain associated with putting a computer into sleep mode as opposed to off off. Besides with a modern NVMe drive my boot time is like less than 4 seconds.

I don't use sleep mode either, I just leave it on 24/7/365 lol

Hah, I would do that if I didn't have to pay the power bill. As it stands the rates for electricity down here in SoCal are pretty conducive to me bein as energy efficient as possible.
I still have programs and files because I'm still on Windows 7.
I can't actually leave it because new hardware is too damn expensive and Microsoft thinks this machine is running a bootleg copy despite getting it from them as a student ages ago.
Win+shift+S brings up screen snipping in case you work a job where you need to send those a lot. Win+L locks the computer. Those are my big windows key shortcuts.

It even worked a few times. One of those times may may have been me
Shut off your dang machines, they start up in a flash these days, there is no reason to leave them on.
They only start up in a flash if you have an SSD. Which is a lot of people nowadays, sure, but not my dinosaur.
also for some very odd reason, my ssd will sometimes boot up instantly, as expected, but also sometimes it will sit there with the Windows "loading" spinning circle thing for like a full 5 minutes or more
the ssd has never given me a single issue otherwise, but for some reason booting up can be a huge timesink, never have found a fix or explanation

I'm going to guess that it might just be windows update, updating Windows on those slower boots. I get it every Tuesday.

this has been my running theory for a while, but it does also do it even when there's no update indicated before shutdown (as far as I can tell)
but yeah it could definitely be this, I haven't tracked it close enough to see if there's a regular pattern to it
I reboot my machine every night and I don't get slow boots ever, when it's installing an update it says it's doing that while booting and it doesn't happen nearly that often.

In Firefox if you type //foxlookgame into the url bar, it will take you to a little jumping fox game like the t-rex in Chrome
Hell yes this is why I update Windows.
Edit: I remember I got pissed when I noticed whatever version changed "Programs" to "Apps".
Just give me the fucking start menu bar that's all I need.
There needs to be a Win98 option for every Windows until I die.

that is super weird! it shouldn't be doing that!
You're gonna have to come over here and shut it off yourself
