Chewy
If it's full of crunch it's basically just char.
Chewy is the only way to get flavor.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
I like mine burned. But I like a lot of my foods burnt, the little bits of crunchy carbon are delicious. Bacon, cookies, broccoli, steaks, etc., burn em all
neither?? Bacon is a meat, and meat shouldn't be crunchy or chewy. I expect it to yield easily to knife or tooth without shattering into a million pieces.
American bacon, well, that's a garnish. I don't know how you people do.

Crunchy
Pan for the most part. Oven if I'm cooking a ton of bacon for some recipe, and the smoker for when I'm making smoked bacon cheeseburgers or Jalapeño poppers.
Oven all the way. Takes longer but the end product is way better. Plus you throw since foil under the rack and never have to worry about dealing with the rendered fat

See I save the rendered fat for other cooking. Fat is flavor!

heck yes!
cook up some crispy bacon and crack a few eggs right in that pan!
The lack of a "yes, please" option is a missed opportunity.

Thats what I did for my breakfast sandwich this morning! Two pieces of bacon, then cracked an egg right in there. On an english muffin with a bit of cheese and Tabasco sauce.
Also you get fully rendered fat in a piece of bacon without making it crispy. Everything is nice and tender and not chewy. chewy is the incorrect word I think. Folks don't want a rubbery piece of bacon, they want tender.

Chewy
Part of the reason why I do it in the pan is that I am very rarely just making bacon by itself, and using the grease to cook other items is a good way to increase flavor.

There is absolutely an ideal point where your bacon is crunchy but not burned and that is Ideal Bacon. For me bacon is best when it shatters gently into salty delicious shards in your mouth like smoked porky porcelain.

There are enough halal and kosher places here that we get great turkey bacon. It can be crispy. Ish.
Highly recommend this method for cooking bacon. Reduces grease splatter, burns off the fat, and doesn't burn the bacon to a crisp.

Stop overcooking your bacon!
Burn it up, I don't want any gooey strips of fat
Nah.

I guess I've never heard anyone say they really wanted to chew on smoked fat for a bit
but to each their own!
Crispy pieces and chewy pieces blending together into an orchestra of flavor on my tongue
heck yes!

I do pan, my mother prefers oven because it gets rid of a decent amount of grease.
I'm gonna tell her about that bacon/water thing though, it sounds like it'll work great, especially in dealing with splatter.
