Yeah, it could be. Usually when you haven't played for a while or tank your MMR trying something new, you'll start seeing bots. But I've been winning consistently and hitting Diamond 10, 5, and Legendary over the past 3 months. Currently Diamond 5. So I dunno why my MMR would be so far in the toilet that I'm only seeing bots.
That said, I started seeing a lot more real players this morning so maybe I'm out of whatever hole I threw myself in. lol
This is why it's so stupid that we can't see our hidden MMR rating.
It's absolutely incredible how often whatever I queue up with, the next game I'm immediately slammed into its low play rate, worst matchup.
After having a rough start as Rainbow DK in upper platinum with an assortment of unwinnable matches and thinking the deck wasn't going to cut it for climbing in the current meta, I ended up win streaking straight from like Plat 2 to dad legend. So I got that out of the way.
Back to BGs, which are pretty fun right now with quests + spells.
I find this to be the best for climbing beyond D5:

Azshara is a good alternative to Denarius, but ultimately only good versus control as you need to draw the explosion. Denarius can act as a second explosion without needed the first, so I think that's what gives it an edge in the current meta that needs a faster game plan.

I reinstalled Hearthstone after I quit playing because I started to hate what the game was becoming.I only did it because I was curious and the lure of come back for the 10th on the blizzard launcher

As an experiment to see if they can get old players to start playing again and give them money, Blizzard will sometimes give returning players a bunch of packs.

I don’t think mage is in any way busted, seeing that card played 3-5 times a game drives me crazy
Unfortunately, it’s the only way to stop cards like Brann. It will be hard to have any kind of value deck while that card exists.
I agree it needs to rotate, and doesn’t feel good to play against, but it and cards like Theotar are the only ways to counter value strategies like that.
It’s not like secret mage is running rampant. Other than my dumb deck I haven’t seen it in months, every mage is Sif (which is also out of favor).

Wow, for a 10 year anniversary celebration, these rewards are really lame.
Also the quests are super weird. Today I have "play OR destroy 10 elementals OR lifesteal minions". I appreciate that it's easy to complete the quests but it also doesn't feel like a quest at all? You'd have to go out of your way to try and play HS and not complete this quests. It's basically "play 3 games" with extra steps.

Yeah, the progression quests are cake, especially in Battlegrounds. The random daily quests for me have required at least a little effort in playing a certain kind of deck, though. Like "Forge 3 cards" or "Play 3 Quickdraw cards".
They also seem to have changed the "point economy" this time around. Usually these event tracks take around 2500-3000 points to complete, with the quest line giving progressively more each day you complete (e.g., 150->200->250->300) and actual gameplay giving you just a trickle of points (like I'd get maybe 15 points at the end of a Battlegrounds game on average), which meant you really needed to focus on doing the quests every day (or other day if you started at the beginning of the event), and if you just knocked out all the quests you'd get all the points you needed. If you started playing late in the event, I think there was no hope of finishing because the quests were still daily gated.
This time you need 5000 points and the quests don't increase in value, but you get far more points for just playing games. I think it might match the normal rewards track XP, since I've been getting like 100+ points for BG matches. So completing quests isn't as critical to finishing, and if you started late you could probably grind out the whole track in a couple days if you just played a ton of games.
I'm curious if this is will be a lasting paradigm shift in how they tune these events or if this is just an unusual one-off.

Honestly I looked at the list of cards it could generate and was surprised at how many I thought kind of looked fair. Hearthstone has slowly power crept most classes up to Day 1 DH's level lmao
I don't think random Day 1 DH cards are going to seem that crazy in today's meta. As mentioned, the 4 years of power creep is real, but the nature of random cards means they might not have the proper effect that they would in a deck purpose-built for them. Some of this will depend on exactly what the whitelist for this card is, but Skull of Gul'dan isn't good until you can get it into an outcast position, and it could end up buried in the middle of your hand for a few turns depending on when CCG is played. Imprisoned Antaen would still probably be decent if you could play it right on curve, but then I'm also envisioning other scenarios where it just gets Reno'd before it hatches or trivially dealt with by Rainbow Mage or today's other top decks. Aldrachi Warblades is probably a good all-around card to get.
I guess there will be the rotation cutting down some of the strongest decks which makes it a little harder to evaluate this, but I dunno if "value DH card" is going to be a big play here.

There are some pretty meaningful changes down in the bug fix section:
1. Rules change! Temporary mana (such as from the Coin or Innervate) can now make you go above max mana. This applies to the base max mana of 10 and to any modified max mana, like if you’ve played Wildheart Guff or Audio Amplifier.
2. Another rules change! You can now have multiple of the same Sigil, Objective, or Aura in play at the same time. Secrets, Quests, Questlines, Sidequests, and Battlegrounds effects that use the Secret Zone are still restricted to one instance in play at a time.
3. Wrath of Air Totem is back, in place of Strength Totem, in the Shaman Hero Power pool.
4. Fixed a bug where Harth Stonebrew’s Iconic Demon Hunter hand wasn’t iconic enough: the cards in that specific hand will now be their launch versions. We’ve also adjusted the hand order to make it flow better with Outcast effects.
