The faction stuff definitely does need a bit of work, as far as I am aware there are no NPCs tied to the Cursed Forest section to be able to get the bonus loot gain. And then the villagers in the big city are all factioned to Dunley farms.

It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

A weird bug I ran into - apparently if your throne is too far from your servant coffins missions don't work properly. My crypt is in a wing off by itself so that was an issue for me, I just built a throne in there as well until that gets addressed.

Peehaps some different ways of being a vampire, violence, spooky, glamor etc.

V sort of the Bloodborne approach to things but everyone's class is vampire survivalist with mix and match specialists from there.

Each power tree tends to have its own flavor though:
    Blood: healing and survival
Chaos: powerful spells with dots and uncertainty (can blink twice, shield pulls enemies to you)
Unholy: increased damage taken debuff and minions
Illusion: reduce damage output debuff and manipulation
    Frost: barriers and snares

Limited from the powers I have gotten so far and some skills overlap with others but it is a general gist of them.

They are still primarily about killing your enemies putting it squarely in the violence category but it can be fun finding builds to work together with. That said, that means playing with friends due to the low number of available hotkeys.

Not opposed to more variety, but I am not sure it is that kind of game.

You can turn into human to interact with the wandering merchants.
I think that could be an avenue to expand social element of being a vampire.
Same for the beguiling mechanic you use to acquire servants.

There is a skeleton of a social game already in here, not sure how difficult it would be to add some meat on them, but i don't think it would be too far out there.
Even if the game isprobably always going to be mostly about murder.

Not sure if this will be of interest and I haven't tried them yet myself, but someone already made some PS5/XBOX/Switch Steam controller layouts for V Rising.
No extra apps needed, just Steam:

I do not understand why this game was compared to Valheim. There's nothing at all similar unless the concept of collecting things and crafting is enough.

I'm pretty disappointed with the game overall. We have a private server with a few of us playing, but it's not a very interesting PvE multi game. Seems like it was pretty clearly designed for some weird pvp stuff.

What is this I don't even.

It has at its base the same "gather -> craft -> gather -> craft ->" loop.
Valheim is much more interested in a defined journey with an end, and a much more open building mechanic (let me place the tower heart half in the middle of a 4x4 room dammit), while Vrising is more interested in combat (PvE and PvP).

I do agree that the game seems to be designed around the idea of pvp, and group play in general, but it is a nice experience as pve and solo game as well.

My hope is that the V Rising devs come to the same realization that the Conan Exiles devs came to: that the craft/build/survive player community is much more interested in building, exploration, and PVE than they are in PVP.

Conan’s entire first year of development was largely PVP oriented and the game was designed around base raids, PVP, and the cycle of loss. And the community largely rejected that and said “nah, we just want to build.” And so the devs shifted focus to include more dungeons, more recipes, more open world PVE opportunities, and RP.

I’m hoping that happens with V Rising and that in the future we’ll see a shift towards factions, social features, mega-dungeons, and PVE/RP.

I think there's a lot of similarities behind the boss hunting mechanics, which are a progression lock. In Valheim, you have to discover the location of each biome boss. Killing that boss unlocks a piece that can craft technology to allow you to advance. Same concept here in V Rising with the blood hunts.

I think Valheim is an apt comparison, but I think V Rising's combat, while different, is way more engaging and tactical than Valheim. From a PvE aspect, it feels a lot better. I have over 100 hours in Valheim, and definitely enjoying V Rising quite a bit more.

It also sounds like the PvP aspect is a real goosefest, and I expect that piece to eventually die out while they continue to add to the PvE part. Hopefully.

To me the multi in Valheim was everything. Combat made sense in multi, and group construction was fun. Both of those things are nearly non existent in this. Combat is whatever, it's diablo style, and the construction is about as bland as it can get especially when you account for there being no actual z axis.

This game just feels like a solo game you can play when other people are online.

Aside from being isometric I don’t find the combat in this overly similar to Diablo at all, there’a a lot more going on. The WASD controls in general have a completely different feel, and there’s a lot more emphasis on positioning, timing, and aim.

Part of this is the top down nature of the game, unless they make a reliable way to go into first person there isn't much emphasis to go into the z axis other than stuff that will block your view/fad so you camera can see your character.

Limited? Oh yeah, I can see it, yet with the various unlocks plus me able to provide the dlc additions I've seen some very fun castles. Also molding your castle to the geographical design is interesting, as I would go for purely utilitarian function due to limited to supplies (you can fit two grinders facing each other in a 2x1 area) or making massive segments and gardens and what not. Valheim does have the joy of a proper z-axis rather than just levels you can connect with stairs but who knows what we'll get in time.

A perfect illustration of the problem is the floating candles, they look terrific but if you camera pans over them they fade out so you can see just leaving little red glows.

I gotta lot of hope for the future of this game that yes I think will mostly tip towards PvE in the long run (though the PvP concepts are neat if I were still in to that sort of thing) but yeah you're going to find better building in other things.

I finally started getting a little further in game, and enjoying it more. Now I'm stuck trying to solo the bandit king to unlock iron. Clive the Firestarter was the same way. Felt like a hard lock until suddenly it wasn't anymore. Hope the bandit king doesn't take much longer.

Picked this up a few days back and I'm pretty sure I've sunk more time into it than I ever have in an Early Access game. It hits so many of the right things for me even if I do have some complaints.

I think my biggest issue with this step of progression is that you need Merciless Nightstalker armor and Merciless Copper weapons to make good headway but those recipe drops are random. I farmed the bandit armorer a few times because he regularly drops the armor recipes and his camp's containers can also drop them but I kept getting duplicates of the pieces I already had for a while. I really broke the flow of the game up until that point to have to keep killing a boss like that.

Can break down duplicate books into pages and do random unlocks. Sure it's no guarantee but you're progressing towards what you need.

It's funny the progression of 4 different playthroughs, some get a nice mix while others are stuck farming for a bit for more powerful gear recipes. And those recipes can drop off of absolutely anything including random barrels. But still if you're collecting dupe books/pages you'll get what you need eventually albeit slower.

I customized my private server to give mobs (including V's) 75% health. I also boosted player health and power +25%. Some of these bosses have been difficult solo, but nothing I haven't managed to squeak a win out against while being almost at max gear level.

I killed the bandit king just as he killed me, but was able to rush back and savor his flavor before he respawned. I think I was missing the merciless chest piece.

Also, thanks to a perfectly timed blood moon, I was able to chase down the tailor without, and then the sun priestess showed up in town shortly aftewards. Managed to kill her with 3 hp left. The bonus was she died next to a gaggle of nuns, who all when kablooie in the explosion after I drank the head capri sun.

Can confirm I still got trounced by a boss I took on too early after thinking things on ironzerg's server were too easy and it was still stuff near the start of the game so it's a good place.

Picked this game up this evening, having fun so far! As a parent of a little one, we watch a lot of Bluey in our house (sidebar: it's an incredible show and I highly recommend it especially to parents) and the daytime mechanic in the game made me laugh.

This episode of Bluey V Rising is called: Shadowlands

The time it takes to get enough paper to get what I'm missing is prohibitive. I just killed the boss that unlocks the tier of gear after iron/cotton and still have a lot of paper tier recipes missing plus a lot of scroll tier techs missing. Once I unlocked the paper mill I set it to work immediately but all the sawdust I hoarded since I first had sawmills running still only made enough to unlock maybe two techs.

The RNG involved with gear unlocks feels like it could use some tweaking to make it smoother. The second zone at least has one guaranteed weapon recipe unlock that will drop but there doesn't seem to be a boss that drops merciless recipes like with the first zone. If there is, it's after the boss that drops the next tier of recipes.

Now I do need to hunt for better prisoners to farm so I'm likely to spend time marauding through bandit and milita encampments soon and will hopefully get a good amount of paper and scrolls (and hopefully a recipe book I haven't found). But much like recipe drops, blood quality is up to RNG. On top of the RNG of an enemy with blood I want generating, there's the RNG of him having a bunch of bomber and longbowmen buddies that will kill him with fire attacks before I had a chance to feed. Well, I say the latter is RNG but so far the chances of that happening has been 100%. The dudes with the best blood always seem to be the enemy types with lower life totals in group.

They are pretty good, but I found rebinding one of my mouse side buttons to the pickup/action button (F) was a huge QoL change. I'm also trying to figure out a rebind for active power #2 (C) that's a little bit easier to reach.

It's hard to imagine controller support not being added in at some point but that doesn't mean it'll happen soon. Terraria took years to add controller support and while I doubt it'll take that long for V Rising to do it, I can see wanting to nail down other aspects of the interface first before exploring another way to navigate them.

It's a pc game, almost everyone has a mouse and keyboard, not so for a controller.
So it kinda makes sense focusing limited resources on things that make the game better for everyone who will play it.
I'm near certain controller support will happen, eventually, but there are more urgent things to focus on.

Well apparently I pressed the drain blood button instead of the feed with a rat button on my prize prisoner and accidentally killed a 100% Brute. At least I have an 87% Brute still plus the blood vials from the 100% but damn this stings.

Has anyone made the effort to move their castle? I'm on ironzerg's server and my castle is coming along nicely, I have a little crypt room for my stone casket and the Heart (it's weird though that you can't move the Heart onto a tile you've already claimed which feels a bit janky), a big empty room that was my original palisade box then became the castle workshop and now is just a big empty space, a side room that now holds all my workshop crafting benches, and a little garden outside. However, it's just around the corner from the initial spawn point and while the waypoint is just a short walk away, it's still a pain to traverse. I was thinking of moving somewhere farther north and closer to resources and stuff to explore, probably before I go too much farther in progression (gear score high 20s copper weapons and nightstalker armor with merciless nightstalker chest). I could probably pull out room by room by deconstructing and then moving from point A to point B, dump it all in a couple of chests at the new location and then start rebuilding? Would that work? Would I need a second Castle Heart to be able to do that?

You would need a second castle heart, but I believe default settings give you two hearts per player. It is definitely doable, just keep in mind that on default rules you only get 75% of your resources back when you deconstruct things, you will need to make sure to have some spare resources so you can rebuild all the things.

Correct. You get 100% back on everything exactly for this reason. I don't need people to regrind resources because they want a new view outside their door on a PvE server.

I also updated the settings so you can transport resources using the teleporters. Have you unlocked the personal teleporter yet? You might be able to set up a small castle with a second heart and a teleporter, then quickly move stuff between your two castles as you break stuff down. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm assuming you can have multiple teleporters.

I've done this. My first base was very close to the tutorial area and made in a rush to try and have some shelter from the sun. Some time around wanting to take on the bandit chief, the amount of time spent walking was just too much, more so because I had a few failed attempts at bosses in the woods, so I took a few nights to set up a new base. It was not a fast process.

Now that I'm doing regular forays into the Cursed Forest and Silverlight Hills regions, I'm having lengthy walks again but relocating again doesn't seem feasible. The limitations on moving with resources are really constraining after a while. I really wish there was something like an ability to set up a travel network between your own bases so you could create an outpost with that second base slot. As it is, I'm usually at a location looting from sundown to sunrise and by the time I make it back home, it's already sundown again.

Haven't gotten personal teleporter yet, that would definitely help out a LOT when moving camp. Tonight I'm planning to grind out some more V Bloods and uncover a bit more of the map, maybe scout out a new base location.

The boss is level 34, Polora the Feywalker to get the personal teleporter recipe. She's not too terrible difficult. I spec'd myself for ranged combat and extra dodges, and managed it solo.

I should be on the server tonight EST if you want any help knocking out V's.

So it turns out that if you take a short break from this game for whatever reason (say, for example two of the people on your staff have unexpected deaths in their family within one week of each other and you find yourself needing to cover for them for a couple of weeks) your castle "decays" and some rando will steal all your (supposedly "abandoned") stuff, and you lose all progress other than the armor and weapons you have equipped.

After restarting three times already, I think I'm done with this game. Maybe things would be different on a private server where it's less likely that missing a single day of refilling the castle heart means obliteration.

Hello fellow vampires. I just saw this thread after posting in the Steam thread.

If anyone is interested, I fired up a private PvE server via G-Portal. I've been playing solo with a couple other friends on the server, and any of you awesome PA folk are welcomed to join.

As we played this last week, we've tweaked a few things to try to make it more solo friendly. Blood drops are 1.5x, loot drops are 2x, resource drops are 2x. Blood drain for your character and castle are at 50%, and durability drain is also 50%.

I reduced mob health by 25% (including V bloods). Player health and power/spellpower is increased 25%, too. We wanted to make it a touch easier for us old guys to stand up to some of the boss battles. Subject to change if the game feels too easy.

I also gave us an extra couple hours of daylight, an hour on either side. Crafting/Refining is 2x. Converting minions is also 2x.

Only rules for the server are: Be Kind. Play like you're posting here. Don't be a goose. People are more important than pixels.

Feel free to PM me and I'll share the IP and password.

Just a reminder for any other vampires out there.

It really depends on the server, on my friend's the stack size is increased by 2.5x (so 625 essence per stack) and my lvl 3 castle heart fully stocked is about 20 days, though even before the change I feel like my fully stocked level 2 castle was over a week of time before decay. But yeah, eventually all of your stuff will just be gone if you don't re-up. It's certainly a design choice.

I cleared my ignore list, most of which were 8+ years old. I figured I've changed a lot in the last decade. Maybe others have, too.

    Anyway.

With the double stack size on my server, a level 3 heart is lasting 16 days, 16 hours. So plenty of time if you're semi-active, but I do like autodecaying for when people inevitably drop the game.

Also, sending minions out to gather was definitely a big boost for me. I was going to hold off until I could find more 100% people, but I decided to turn a few different citizens to test it out. They bring back a lot of resources on the 23 hour missions, so it's nice to log in each morning to collect and get a nice buffer of copper, iron, cotton, and other bits and bops crafting. As well as books!

I wouldn't ignore that aspect of it.

Expertise being the boost to gear score from gear. So I guess at higher levels this becomes important, but I've had no problems getting 100% rewards with the right type of servant for each mission plus the best gear I can currently make.

Yeah, expertise mainly matters in the intermediate stages where you don't have the upgraded gear for a tier yet, but even then it's a waste throwing a 100% at it unless you already have a bloodbag of that type laying around.
