when khalida captures a settlement she says "my queendom expands"
we love a toxic girlboss
Khalida has always had a ridiculously shitty start; in the vortttex map she's sandwhiched between teheno who starts the game fucking jacked and teclis who has everything he needs to body you while impassable mountains and a bunch of asshole pirates are to your south.
Meanwhile in the ME map she starts in a minor settlement (just... why?) squaring off against vampires and then has Kroq-gar coming for her along with sometimes malus and/or queek.
So by all means yuck it up when things are working for you Khalida.
luckily i accidentally had 2 armies stacked on a newly captured settlement when kroqgar showed up and he killed himself on them due to very high brane ai
it is a weirdly shitty start though if both armies hadnt been there i woulda lost my queen and her whole army because he rolls up with like 1.8 stacks and im having to ignore a stack of orcs raiding in my capital
EDIT: lol nice try slag
im boutta kick... ur asp

I never thought her Vortex start was that bad? There's 0 reason to fight Teclis, you can just leave him in his province and he probably won't go anywhere. You just slowly work around to the east and hit Skrolk in the back, then work up the coast towards Lokhir and Harkon.
Which is annoying because Khalida is the best TK lord.
She's my favorite but I think mechanically Settra (or more specifically, Khemri) is just better. I just wish there was a way to get the other lords in your faction. Not confederations, necessarily, but maybe a way to recruit them like Beastmen recruit theirs.

Yeah my games with her are typically turtle up and watch the settlements to your south waiting/hoping that Kroq's army (or the rats) gets wiped doing something dumb.
I really don't think they should be patting themselves in the back for the blood pack. Just quietly release it and move on, because it's insane that it has taken this long.
They honestly probably just wanted to get a set of decent options for all races and start locations to fight out first and then work on more later.
Edit: I hope they eventually do a “war in heaven” option where 2 options can trigger and fight each other and the player, though. Any of the non-orc options would probably trigger a big Waaugh for example lorefully, and if you are chaos and the orc or undead crisis triggered it would make sense for wood elf or dwarf ones to possible trigger as well.

Which requires going through teehee who starts the game incredibly well set up and if he turns his gaze in your direction before like... turn 20 you're just kind of boned.
I'm pretty damn excited for the end game crisis stuff. It's a great idea for a sandbox game. Just like Stellaris, the "ending" of Mortal Empires never really felt like the point. You get to a point where you're snowballing, eh can't say I really care about checking off the last 10 settlements I need to complete a long victory just to see the score screen. Adding some variety instead of just chaos invasion should spice it up a lot, and give you a more epic feeling end game goal than just steamrolling everything once you're an overwhelming force.
I like that they're already getting a little weird with it by not just doing all Chaos/Undead to start -- it seems natural to add more as the game goes on to keep spicing things up, so hopefully we get even more interesting stuff by the end.

Weird way to spell Khatep.
I know he's not mechanically the best, but you get more Liche Priests as a faction effect, which base game are a strict capped resource, plus he gets a free artillery weapon mount, which I don't think any other lord can claim. I guess the Stegadon mounts like Tehenhauin's might also count technically.
Plus, he's just a loyal bro. I've got mad respect for him.

Right, I actually thought about VC because they're so gunny, and was like
"Harkon? Nope, zombie bat.
Opera lady? No, Giant zombie crab.
Angry fish lady? Nope, smaller zombie crab.
I feel like I'm forgetting someone... eh, whatever, I'm sure whoever it is doesn't get artillery..."
Meanwhile, Nocty is sitting outside in the rain holding his soccer ball. My bad.

If everybody else is going to treat this as the "real" release, they may as well take advantage.

They still haven't discounted TW1&2 on steam yet for new players so I'm not convinced they are all in on treating this as a reboot. They should have done that as soon as the trailer dropped. It's £130 for IE or £80 if you own 3. That's absurd!

It may be down to the new discount rules, so they can have the discount closer to release of IE, because they've discounted basically everywhere else.
Yes, it's in the last 6 months or so, and mostly put in place to prevent abuse, but it does limit when discounts can happen to a degree

Watching a stream of Nakai and I didn't realize he now starts right on the border with Khuresh.
That's some interesting future DLC foreshadowing. Khuresh contains a lost city of the Old Ones. Which puts Nakai in direct opposition to the Khuresh Naga if they do get added.

Previews indicate the Tomb Kings got a fairly major buff. Most of their buildings are cheaper and their income building got better. Almost all of their core units got dropped a tier (Tomb Guard and Ushabti are T2 now), the only thing that's still way up there are their top tier monsters. Tomb Scorpions are T3 but capital only.
didn't they also nerf TK a bit by doing away with the free skeleton units though?
That's Vampire Counts, who early impressions seem to indicate still have problems but we'll see.
it would be silly to write them off... u know... never count them out... u cant account for all factors... they have no counters....
Unfortunately, the Vampire Counts no longer have uncountable skeletons or uncountable Winds of Magic Reserves, but still have a very easily countable economy.

one of my favourite vampire counters in folklore is the "throw a handful of rice on the floor and the vampire will be forced to count every single one"
cathay hard countering vampire counts armies when new map comes
More ways to get Blood Kisses for the Bloodlines for Vampire Counts.
Still would be nice to have extra stuff to use it for like the Night Court from I think Grimhammer or another mod but hey not just having to have vampiric assassins farming for kisses is an improvement.

Apparently Aspiring Champions now can stack a whole bunch of buffs from technology.
Undivided:
+10 Armour
Perfect Vigour
Cause Fear
Khorne:
Frenzy (Leadership > 50%: +10% to BWD, APWD, CB & MA)
Hellblade (80+ kills: +20% to BWD and APWD)
Nurgle:
Poison Attacks (-15% to Speed, BWD, APWD & -18% Vigour)
Regen (0.1% but +20% weakness to fire)
Tzeentch:
+800 Barrier HP
Gate of Tzeentch (1 pink horror summon)
Slaanesh:
Immune to Psychology
Strider (Speed/Combat penalties caused by terrain ignored)
Soul Hunters (Up to 22% Dam Res, +16 Leadership & 10 CB through kills)
Where the type is the area of the tree it's from. Some of the lower tier units like Chosen can get some of these buffs (only the one for their Mark or Undivided it seems like) but not all of them like ACs now get.
Colonel Damnedres goes through vampire faction bonuses, lord/hero skilltrees and vampire research. https://youtu.be/Znld1pzYOZc
Overall, not quite the overhaul I expected but:
Manny gets to chase the books of Nagash for sweet sweet bonuses. Also a diplomatic bonus with his fellow vampire lords if you want to play LL-pokemon.
Vlad&Isabella gets their sweet love of the ages with one or the other becoming a legendary hero and they're getting a +50% battle healing cap when they're together.
Ghorst is probably the most overhauled LL and gets insaaaaaane zombie bonuses (they get poison as a faction effect and +30 armor in his army. Ghorsts skill tree includes the following zombie bonuses. +12 MA, 10% wardsave and +500% healing cap. All of these skill bonuses are factionwide) and his mortis engines&corpse carts have lesser raise dead as bound spells.
Wraiths and Mournghouls can get +500 Barrierpoints from the tech tree. Which is huge for both Mournghouls and Hexwraiths as Barrier really helps preserve health when charging.
Tech tree includes improved battle healing caps for various types of units. No free skellies, but everyone else has been buffed a bit.
Necrachs are much stronger in WH3, with the overhaul to spells and spellcasting passives (spirit leech!) means that they've got pretty much infinite Invocations of Nehek.

Vampires, both land and sea, are my favorite faction so I'm excited to try out the new updates. Vlad was my first victory campaign. I will probably miss sending Vlad in with his Grave Guard and Blood Knights followed by Isabella and her 9 overpowered vampire generals and buffed bats and wolves and vargheists but still.
Any word on their econ? VC econ was one of the reasons skelly spam was so good. Late game was semi decent to strong but we had to get there first. I had many VC campaigns where I put everything into building econ out for late game because otherwise the econ was garbage.
Those army changes sound like they're bringing them closer to the core ideas they had for WH1 counts but with everything they've learned since. I preferred that to the WH2 style of battles anyway so I'm happy they're moving away from WH2 for the VCs.

wow that's a nice defeat trait
Meanwhile I am overflowing with decent but middling skeletal legions--and no not just the sword/spear and board ones.
