To continue the high ground convo from last thread, I mostly am confused by players who choose to take the low ground when they have an option to pick high ground (this is usually on defense).
I get that, on attack, roundabout routes often take too long and the team breaks up. But on defense, you get to choose where to position. And yet a huge % of players choose the low ground. Why? What’s the thought process? This is on PC.
OW players have problems. Lost a game where their tracer rolled us. I tried swapping to a few different counters but lost the duels because he was better. Still tried.
One support told me that the taliban should chop my head off. How does a statement like that even cross people’s minds?
Obviously, I blocked and reported, but seriously, wtf is wrong with people?

Mei cannot exist in her current form, she is fucking broken.
Mei cannot exist in her current form, she is fucking broken.
I actually think she’s generally kind of bad? She doesn’t do much dps and has a big hitbox so she gets bullied except in very close maps.

She sets up the tanks way too easily with the crypto-freeze, and needs something to give on her kit or have her lose 50hp. I’m seeing Mei plus Hamzo/pharah/echo is the new DPS combo as she’s also cornered out Sombra. Her ult is still goats levels wide and should be remade for 5v5.
I don't like the change as a Mei player because Mei has to stay in M1 range a lot longer with the low DPS, and she doesn't shut down her target's damage like in OW1, so it's the worst of both worlds. It leaves her more vulnerable for less payoff.
So sick of players who literally just stand on cart rather than take angles and use cover, flanking, etc. particularly when it’s someone line Ana or Hanzo.
And if I try to take an angle, I never get peel or healing because they are tunnel visioned only on the cart. Win the fucking fight people!
Animation doesn't look amazing but I think this is how they should have been delivering plot from the beginning.

A few days ago Jared Neuss was on Emongg's stream who said there would be no new PVE until mid 2024, so that confirms this upcoming DLC is basically what they've been "working" on for the past four years just shoveled out to get some money. Which means there's probably a lie on top of the lie that they knew in October PVE was unworkable, it was likely much much earlier.
That's pretty much what I expected when they chose to release three missions at a time rather than drip feeding them every other season. That makes for a pace of yearly PvE DLC. Though I would not rule out the possibility that PvE is not well received and gets de-prioritized further.
That Symm regen thing is nutty. But the best change is Ramm's vortex finally passes through players.

Disappointed with the tank buffs, Rein didn't need a buff, more disappointed with lack of support nerfs. Sym change makes sense, she can turn into a tank melter like she was years ago with the regen, I wanted more of a change to Torb's turret. Keep the damage the same but make it a 180-270 degree field of vision or reduce the target range by 10m minimum.
Lifeguard Mercy is 20 bucks, so nope, not getting it with current token amount.
There are so many things they could do to the turret to make it less annoying without doing something as boring and homogenizing as simply taking power from it and giving it to Torb. Give it a target acquiring delay. Limit its field of vision. Lower damage just is boring and feels bad. They say it's a matter of impact over investment but, like... reducing the impact of an ability in the wrong way simply makes it less interesting.
On the upside, lower tank population means it’s actually pretty easy to rank up as tank right now, since decent gamesense and decision making can easily swing things.
I hate that most of the best skins are paywalled. It was nicer when there was a better balance between paying and grinding for good stuff.

The turret isn’t interesting to begin with, which prob means it should be reworked. It also promotes gameplay that is static and boring (place turret then spam down main).
That’s not to mean every hero needs to have the mobility of tracer, but moment to moment decisionmaking should always feel impactful and necessary. Ana is a great example of how dynamism doesn’t necessarily mean movement, but can be contained within decision trees. Her prioritizing healing or damage, a hugely impactful skill shot, and healing/dmg utility rewards players for mechanical skill, correct resource management, and good positioning.
Torb and sym often represent the polar opposite, although sym allows some creativity with TP placement (but honestly, not a ton). Placing a turret in at an unexpected angle is a rather lackluster mechanic for skill expression compared to the other options.
Hopefully, the balance team gets a bit more creative in the upcoming reworks.

I just tried playing the volleyball mode (not good) and then got kicked out while playing and the score was 4-5 because it said I needed to move out of the spawn room and it was inactivity. Programming, motherfucker, do you speak it?
Could not convince my team to contest high ground on eickenwalde second. Hanzo, bap, rein, and Moira literally standing on top of the cart, complaining about snipers.
Not a single brain cell to share among them. I don’t know how players like that manage to install the game, honestly, without their brains overheating.
those are some bizarro changes. sym buffs? wut? zen nerf? ok, ok, ok, ok....no? i swear every other patch is upping soldier damage or lowering soldier damage. does this put him back to where he was a while ago? mercy + soldier again? i play torb when there's some crazy lucio or a doomfist that no one else will deal with, i don't like these changes at all.
honestly, wtf is up with these changes?

All the best-designed beginner friendly characters still have a skill ceiling that can be explored by higher level players (arguably here its torb's capacity for counter-sniping). No character deserves to be boring. I also think that there's nothing inherent about a chunky turret that is necessarily uninteresting or lacking in interactivity and decision making. It's just easier to design that way.
First time I've said this in a long, long-ass time: I love these patch notes.
Doing well on Nepal last night on Tracer, so one of their DPS goes Sym to counter. Oh no! They swap off almost-instantly and go Hanzo, as Cassidy was already taken. Went 40 and 7 and got a PotG for one-clipping an ulting Soldier.
And the titles bug is fixed, so you can once again not have a title if you wish. Good changes all 'round!

As a tank player I am glad they finally saw fit to nerf discord. I wish they'd do the same to anti heal.
Anti heal is fucking weird because it has so little counterplay. Zarya bubble and Kiriko bell - that's it, and that's all. And bell's CD is far longer than the nade's.
Sometimes I'll play Kiriko into Junker Queen just to deal with her ult, but her ult can cross chasms of space and hit an entire, well-spread-out team and the Bell's AoE will save maybe one or two of your peeps.
But Queen's ult is also part of a whole other discussion about how some tank ults are fucking bonkers (Ram, Queen, Rein), some are merely reasonable (D.Va, Orisa, Ball, Zarya, Hog) and one's pretty shitty (Doom).

as both a tank player and a zen player i'm glad they nerfed discord in such a way that doesn't affect his ability to defend himself when getting jumped on
Anytime people start up on how oppressive Zen and discord is, I'm very much in the "he's the easiest character in the game to kill, period" camp - and conveniently leave out that he's also the most lethal support by a very wide margin. It is easy to kill him - and his balance is that a skilled Zen will find it very easy to kill you. Ding, ding, done. He 100% can't lose that threat, or he's just the easiest support to kill.
I checked out that ulting Soldier counter potg from last night and eyyy it was actually a 5k. Didn't even remember.
As a tank, killing Zen first is more often than not infeasible for me. I'd have to push straight past their front line while discord is on me, which is suicide. I can't really make any offensive plays at all until my team of pubbies does something about him, which is not fun.
My two best tanks are Zarya and Ball. You'd think Ball would be better at killing Zen, but for some reason they tend to be pretty frontliney when I'm playing Zarya and I'm almost always able to just walk past the enemy tank and melt him - which requires my team to not die to the tank I just walked past, but it works out a lot.

I think the problem with Discord is that it's instant value regardless of how skilled the Zen player is as long as they are smart enough to discord the tank or whatever DPS is giving the team trouble.
It is, but that's how all supports work, kinda. Discord(/Blue Beam/Nano/Anti-nade/Speed Boost) is big, but it's only big if the Zen(/Mercy/Ana/Lucio)'s team does something with it.
And in Zen's case, it's like all he's got. Maybe my problem is I've only come across like six Zens in six years of OW who seemed unkillable, to me.
'Chance, you are the best kind of whore.' -Henroid
And the game appears to be down - or at least I and someone on another forum got "Error starting game, trying again" 5x in a row when the queue found a game. Nyeuts.
This, Folks Who Bought Baywatch Mercy, this is what you're paying for.

Zen's balance is extremely precarious for the aforementioned reasons so the fact they even changed anything about him was surprising to me. I think it's an interesting adjustment but I don't think it will meaningfully impact much outside of "can no longer apply pressure to snipers".
But I mean, more power to those snipers I guess.
Those Symmetra changes are exceptionally cooked, but I think the turret spotting mechanic is an extremely neat idea. It's nice to have more tools in the game that play around with the 'information is power' approach, and it gives them more interesting utility than just being setup for a microwave hallway

Man that animation is just so bad. You can't/won't do the CGI, that's fine. An animoo studio can do that no problem, or even the korean animation studio that does a bunch of the DC Animated direct to video movies (Young Justice as well). This stuff is below even the 2016 Berserk anime.
I'm so down on OW lately that I can't even be fucked to watch its latest promotional cartoon. And I love promotional cartoons as a rule.
Elsewhere, Jared Neuss, executive producer for OW2, says they should have some "interesting updates" regarding mouse and keyboard use on console in the future.
Going on precedence, this means they're going to fully support MnK use on consoles, and MnK players mixing freely with controller players. If they didn't endorse this kind of cheating, it wouldn't be fucked - and if it's Blizzard, it's fucked.
