PSA: Baldur's Gate 3 players with existing Early Access saves, we ask that prior to August 3, launch the game, and delete all save files to avoid unintended conflicts at launch. Also, remove any mods and ensure they do not automatically re-download.
We recommend players with Early Access installed uninstall the game after deleting their save files.
This will reduce the risk of file conflicts when the final game downloads, and should mean more playing, and no troubleshooting!

Release Date: August 3rd, 2023 (PC), Sept. 6 (PS5)
Platforms: PC (
Steam,
GOG), PS5
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a story-rich, party-based RPG set in the universe of Dungeons & Dragons, where your choices shape a tale of fellowship and betrayal, survival and sacrifice, and the lure of absolute power. Gather your party, and return to the Forgotten Realms in a tale of fellowship and betrayal, sacrifice and survival, and the lure of absolute power. Mysterious abilities are awakening inside you, drawn from a Mind Flayer parasite planted in your brain. Resist, and turn darkness against itself. Or embrace corruption, and become ultimate evil. From the creators of Divinity: Original Sin 2 comes a next-generation RPG, set in the world of Dungeons and Dragons.
The Forgotten Realms are a vast, detailed and diverse world, and there are secrets to be discovered all around you -- verticality is a vital part of exploration. Sneak, dip, shove, climb, and jump as you journey from the depths of the Underdark to the glittering rooftops of the Upper City. How you survive, and the mark you leave on the world, is up to you.
Online multiplayer for up to four players
allows you to combine your forces in combat, and split your party to follow your own quests and agendas. Concoct the perfect plan together… or introduce an element of chaos when your friends least expect it.
Origin characters
offer a hand-crafted experience, each with their own unique traits, agenda, and outlook on the world. Their stories intersect with the entire narrative, and your choices will determine whether those stories end in redemption, salvation, domination, or many other outcomes.
Evolved turn-based combat
based on the D&D 5e ruleset. Team-based initiative, advantage & disadvantage, and roll modifiers join combat cameras, expanded environmental interactions, and a new fluidity in combat that rewards strategy and foresight.
Define the future of the Forgotten Realms
through your choices, and the roll of the dice. No matter who you play, or what you roll, the world and its inhabitants will react to your story.
Player initiated turn-based mode
allows you to pause the world around you at any time even outside of combat. Whether you see an opportunity for a tactical advantage before combat begins, want to pull off a heist with pin-point precision, or need to escape a fiendish trap. Split your party, prepare ambushes, sneak in the darkness -- create your own luck!
Difficulty Levels & Rules
In D&D, picking the right DM is key to defining the journey you want to embark on. In Baldur’s Gate 3, we’ve created three modes of play that essentially act as different types of DM: the forgiving, narrative driven DM, or the DM that isn’t afraid to let you die if your glass-cannon wizard decides to tickle an owlbear.
At launch, in addition to ‘Normal mode’ (which can be considered our default), players may avail of the following:
In Story mode, combat has been made more forgiving so players can fully immerse themselves in the narrative layer of this adventure. In this mode, friendly NPCs are harder to kill, trader prices are at a 20 percent discount, and you'll begin the game with a +2 starting proficiency bonus.
Hardcore mode, then, is where to test your mettle. In this mode, enemy lethality is cranked up to Brutal, ensuring that enemy AI are stronger, will prioritise squishier targets with low AC, and will seize opportunities to go in for the kill. Additionally, many adjustments have been made to the fights themselves specifically for Hardcore mode, with certain enemies receiving additional support through reinforcements, spells, or consumable items.

LAUNCH RACES/SUB-RACES:
STATS:
Strength - A Strength check can model any attempt to lift, push, pull, or break something, to force your body through a space, or to otherwise apply brute force to a situation. The Athletics skill reflects aptitude in certain kinds of Strength checks. You add your Strength modifier to your attack roll and your damage roll when attacking with a melee weapon such as a mace, a battleaxe, or a javelin. You use melee weapons to make melee attacks in hand-to-hand combat, and some of them can be thrown to make a ranged attack. Your Strength score determines the amount of weight you can bear.
Dexterity - A Dexterity check can model any attempt to move nimbly, quickly, or quietly, or to keep from falling on tricky footing. The Acrobatics, Sleight of Hand, and Stealth skills reflect aptitude in certain kinds of Dexterity checks. You add your Dexterity modifier to your attack roll and your damage roll when attacking with a ranged weapon, such as a sling or a longbow. You can also add your Dexterity modifier to your attack roll and your damage roll when attacking with a melee weapon that has the finesse property, such as a dagger or a rapier. At the beginning of every combat, you roll initiative by making a Dexterity check. Initiative determines the order of creatures’ turns in combat.
Constitution - Your character’s hit points define how tough your character is in combat and other dangerous situations. Your hit points are determined by your Hit Dice (short for Hit Point Dice). Your Constitution modifier contributes to your hit points. Typically, you add your Constitution modifier to each Hit Die you roll for your hit points
Intelligence - An Intelligence check comes into play when you need to draw on logic, education, memory, or deductive reasoning. The Arcana, History, Investigation, Nature, and Religion skills reflect aptitude in certain kinds of Intelligence checks. Wizards use Intelligence as their spellcasting ability, which helps determine the saving throw DCs of spells they cast
Wisdom - A Wisdom check might reflect an effort to read body language, understand someone’s feelings, notice things about the environment, or care for an injured person. The Animal Handling, Insight, Medicine, Perception, and Survival skills reflect aptitude in certain kinds of Wisdom checks. Clerics, druids, and rangers use Wisdom as their spellcasting ability, which helps determine the saving throw DCs of spells they cast
Charisma - A Charisma check might arise when you try to influence or entertain others, when you try to make an impression or tell a convincing lie, or when you are navigating a tricky social situation. The Deception, Intimidation, Performance, and Persuasion skills reflect aptitude in certain kinds of Charisma checks. Bards, paladins, sorcerers, and warlocks use Charisma as their spellcasting ability, which helps determine the saving throw DCs of spells they cast.

Anyone else wish they would reveal some real oddball party members?
I feel like in the best RPGs, you get some really bizzare unique companions. Something like a goblin, a demon, Bob the friendly mindflayer, etc. Something less human or not easily creatable yourself perhaps.
Speaking of Origins. I'm definitely going custom Tav, but I've seen some good points for playing as Wyll.
As Wyll you'll actually get to roleplay your relationship to your patron. That's pretty cool.
As a custom Warlock you probably won't get much interaction at all

Everything about the original planned release is still in place except for the time shift. So, starting July 31st, all saves made on the headstart (can't call it Early Access) client will carry over to the full release.
Triply confused which game you are talking about. Obsidian never touched the Baldur's Gate franchise. Unless this is a bit.
Black Isle was the studio that did those games and lots of the employees went on to create Obsidian after they got shuttered by Interplay back in the day. But yea.. Obsidian came after the BG series
Game really knows how to set the mood when some random bear in the woods decides to test their luck against you.
Turns out Black Isle was a "publisher" for Baldur's Gate/II.. even though they were part of interplay. But Black Isle Studios did not make BG I/II, that was all Bioware. They did make Icewind Dale/II, Planescape Torment, Fallout I/II, etc. And I guess Dark Alliance II.
Would love to get a quest from the ghosts of Montaron and Xzar where they think the only way for them to move on is for the party to kill the other one. Would feel very fitting.
Edit: Earl Boen died just this year...Damn. RIP.
David Warner (Irenicus) passed away, as did Earl Boen
I think everyone else is at least around and working in some capacity, though many are rather old at this point. IIRC Jim Cummings did Minsc in Siege of Dragonspear but he was recast for BG3, no idea why.
Bard, Sorc, and Warlock use CHA. If you're referring to the OP, @Zavian probably should specify that most of that info block does not apply to BG3.
(edit: I guess you could be talking about BG1/BG2 in which case, ignore me lol)
From their post history no. But a very very positive person
Ah. It looks like you have to make ranged attacks. Get up on the platforms.
You can't fight them toe to toe.

Oh thats awesome! I can't see post history on mobile so I was legit unsure.
"Now hold on, are you telling me that not only can I get the soon to be hit Baldur's Gate 3 from the award winning Larian Studios behind the instant modern day classics Divinity OS 1&2 but if I preorder now, I can start playing a whole THREE days earlier?"
I'm ready.
I'm actually looking forward to replaying Act 1, seeing if anything's changed.
Sadly gonna have to skip some of the side content and SOD to get both games done before then.
Moving up launch really threw me for a loop.
My evil half orc barbarian with the cheetah boots is like an evil Sonic the Hedgehog. Robbing and stealing throughout the coast while the greenhill zone theme plays in the background.
NECROS
OH MY GOD
YES
Can someone explain why Barbarians have a wild magic subclass? They're not even casters!
