It's kinda Stacks's thing, to object to any conversation along these lines.
I have this wild desire to see a thread where people can talk about videogames not get sucked into dumb politics and people circlejerking because we good, they bad, hurf durf.
As an aside, describing a conversation as a "hill to die on" is a bit overdramatic, don't you think?
You were the one who felt that setting the tone to calling people "frothing at the mouth" was a good idea, you don't exactly get to complain when it comes back at you.
Unfortunately we live in reality and they affect every part of our lives. We can't pretend to live in a world free of politics. It's not even an Us Vs Them thing, it's more like basic human empathy kinda thing. It's a topic that's only political because of the religious trying to force their morals on those around them. This kinda whinging about things being political just comes across as privileged as all hell, because none of the problems facing these other folks really affects or bothers you, now does it?
Morals are fine. "Don't kill that dude." is fine. It's not fine when you take rights away from people in the name of a religion those people probably don't even practice.
Smokestacks, if you have an issue with the relevancy of what's being posted in this thread, then take it up with the mods.

No, I am very comfortable with my classification of what is going on. But don't let me stop you I don't actually have any interest in debating this particular topic with you.

Not directed at anyone. And I'm not self-appointing as a mod, here. For that matter, I don't think that forum moderation should even have to point out the following.
First, there are threads on great big issues with life-altering consequences in other forums. Where a discussion on whether said issues are fair grounds for legislation, whether they are political in nature or transcend politics into human rights territory, and of the various legal precedents at play, can easily run a hundred pages.
Second, those debates can get, understandably, far more heated than even your average thread about videogames. Let alone the Steam thread, where the most confrontational things tend to get is people engaging in jovial one-upmanship over who can gift the most nifty new, novel, or overlooked titles to fellow gamers.
Third, with the original subject of this discussion having now departed, whether of his volition or not, from the company he helmed, any perceived urgency to exhorting fellow gamers to withhold their hard-earned cash in protest, or to loosen their purse strings in support, of his views, has now slipped away. Any further impact that an ongoing discussion in this particular thread can have on the wider issue, has now commensurately diminished to a vanishing point.
People are engaged, that's fantastic. Voting every couple years is not the extent of our involvement in the political process, which will run us (or others) over like an 18-wheeler if we don't get our voice out there. But if this was ever the optimal place to, commendably, invest that time and energy, that can surely no longer be the case.
Spends the weekend playing video games with this kids, and neglects checking the Steam thread. Monday morning...
On that note, the kiddos got way into Craftopia this weekend. And normally dad is the workhorse, getting all the materials, finding all the secrets, grinding all the mobs, etc...but for the first time, the kids did a majority of the work pushing advancement.
I had to paint our porch while the kids played, and when I got done and could join them for a few minutes, Minion #2 dropped a set of top tier armor they had made for me.
It was crazy...I left them alone for a few hours, and they were little savages in loin cloths hitting trees with rocks. I come back and they're wearing armor created from the scales of dragons, and wielding weapons torn from the arms of fallen death reapers.
I'll admit, I teared up a little.

I hadn't even heard of Craftopia, thanks for putting it on my radar.
One of the first reviews I saw read, "This game is okay. It's BotW meets Minecraft meets Pokemon meets World of Tanks."
Bloody hell, that's just okay? I'm setting myself a reminder to ask this guy in January for his GOTY pick.

Truth be told, it's really jarring at first. It's like they took all the cool stuff they could (regardless of if it fits) and jammed it into one game.
You can be hang gliding over the Statue of Liberty, while wielding an assault rifle and wearing demon armor, getting ready to shoot a bone dragon while waiting for your grinder to finish processing your sheep for their wool.
It's one of those games that's just so crazy, it works.
Bonus points for the machine translation of the game, which leads to some hilarious item descriptions. One of loading screen tips asks players to be patient while they work on new game content like, "...the balls of the dragon...".
Trying to find that early access porn brawler that actually had an interesting minigame for cunnalingus
Y'know... I think most lockpicking minigames have mechanics that could translate over to that...

I never got this whole... thing. It's not hard to find! It's right there.
It's not the finding it, it's the willingness to do anything with it.
Because unsurprisingly men tend to be selfish lovers.
Tell them it's the only way to get the high score(but don't treat it like the controls to the Track and Field arcade game....well, unless she's into that).

Seriously, dude, this is kinda transparent.
You're not reading the situation as well as you think you are.

The entire concept of laws in general is a desire for people to push their morals on those around them.
